  1. Hearing one Marti Pellow would be bad enough without hearing it again and again……. And again.
  2. I agree, in terms of gigs I’ve only seen, Chuches, Placebo and the Martyn Bennett Grit Orchestra there and felt that the sound bounced about a bit so there was almost an echo effect. In general I will avoid gigs at the hydro but Elvis Costello was a gift and love the intensity of a Nick Cave gig but the English dates didn’t work for me.
  3. Tickets now bought for Nick Cave at the hydro in November, second half of the year shaping up nicely with Elvis Costello, Pixies (again) and Arab Strap also booked.
  4. Was in Manchester this week to see Pixies, the played Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde back to back. Felt them playing an album took away from the usual energy and flow of the gig, along with the recent change of base player meant that while it was still good it wasn’t as good as previous times I’ve seen them. The venue was the Albert Hall in Manchester a first time there for me, good intimate venue with stunning architecture and good sound, downside the toilets are in the basement and the venue is on the second floor.
  5. Back Row, middle right was Bobby Holmes the physio, I think he broke his leg just before the 1959 final which finished his career and missed out playing in it. Was a member of Meikleriggs bowling club and I think ferguslie cricket club for many years.
  6. Was a good gig, 25 years since philophobia was released, then played a few newer ones, first time I’ve seen them and they didn’t play First Big Weekend but they did play the girls of summer. New album and a Barrowlands gig for 2024.
  7. Just heading out to St Luke’s to see Arab Strap, Gun playing Barrowlands too so lots of 50 yr old guys heading past the trongate tonight.
  8. Agree with Elvis, we did enough but not much more. Big games against County and St J will decide if we are comfortable top 6 or fighting for top 6. Progress from the last few years but it is still fragile.
  9. I was at Young Fathers at the Barrowlands last night, fantastic gig, such a range of styles and as well as screaming the guys have a fantastic voices. The music has so many layers and seeing all the band interact and making keeping everything tight look effortless. Selling out a Monday and a Tuesday is a cracking achievement. My night started with a woman walking past me with a brick which she then proceeded to put through a takeaway’s window, never a dull moment.

  11. I can only remember it being on smithhill street at the piazza. Whatevery’s owners the weisfelds lived in Paisley for a number of years.
  12. Whisky Joe’s being taken over by the group that ran ‘The Woods’ in Glasgow.
  13. That clubhouse is still in use by Powerleague. Sadly an ankle injury may be about to cut short my promising 5 aside career at the age of 52!
  14. Offering a contract to get a fee is only for young players (possibly under 21) where you are due a development fee if they move on and you have made an offer on at least as good terms as they had. Contact offers to Flynn and Shaughnessy are because we see it being worthwhile having them next season.
  15. Kicking myself for missing this, saw them at Strathclyde union back in the day. Hope you enjoyed the gig. Flaming lips in the Manchester 02 this weekend for me.
  16. There was a big older guy, think he was called Mr Graham, bit of an attitude but was actually ok. Back in those days, it was the make up girls that thought they were a cut above the other workers.
  17. That brings back some memories, I had a Saturday job in there in the Electrical Dept. Initially it was located above where pendulum is now and latterly it moved to the warehouse up the ramp at the far end of the photo beside the furniture section.
  18. I’m pretty sure I bought my first tank of fuel for my first car there which would have meant it was still open in the mid 90’s.
  19. I had a Saturday job in Arnotts working in electrical sales, teles, video’s washing machines etc. Used to buy a cd a lunchtime from Stereo 1 or the Record Factory and would be able to play them in the shop in the afternoon while watching the scores roll in via teletext. It worked well until I bought the Surfa Rosa / Come on Pilgrim Cd by Pixies and Nimrods Son got played out across the department…….
  20. I sold my car last May and looked at We buy, Motorway etc and in the end the dealer offered me the best price. The online webuy price changed significantly over the space of 7 days and I found Motorway disappointing, they essentially set up an auction for your car, my car was a clean low mileage car just over 3 years old. Their suggested price and reserve price was in line with the highest I’d had offered elsewhere but on auction day the closest bid was about £4k down. I think the market is a bit less volatile now than May but my advice would be not to budget on the offer or suggested price from these buyers until you have the cash in your hand.
  21. Was at Mogwai at the Barrowlands the Friday before Christmas. very good, very loud. Next up Twilight Sad as part of Celtic Connections at the end of January
  22. Saw them once at the SECC. Was standing in amongst a section of the crowd that were all ecc’d up, we then moved and the rest of the crowd were all smoking hash. Was a great gig and always harboured thoughts of seeing them again, would never be the same with out Maxi he was a phenomenal front man. He also used to drive an RS2000 which to guys of a certain vintage commands respect in itself.
  23. Martin Metcalfe is a great show man and Richard Jobson is a really interesting guy, sorry I missed this.
  24. Surely this should be being billed as the fight for the second Champions League spot.
