That was exactly what I said to Mrs Faraway at the Marti Pellow gig.

Both he and his support act were overly echoey at times.

Hearing one Marti Pellow would be bad enough without hearing it again and again……. And again.

I felt the acoustics/sound at the Hydro wasn't the best, what's your thoughts?

I agree, in terms of gigs I’ve only seen, Chuches, Placebo and the Martyn Bennett Grit Orchestra there and felt that the sound bounced about a bit so there was almost an echo effect.

In general I will avoid gigs at the hydro but Elvis Costello was a gift and love the intensity of a Nick Cave gig but the English dates didn’t work for me.

  3. Was in Manchester this week to see Pixies, the played Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde back to back.
Felt them playing an album took away from the usual energy and flow of the gig, along with the recent change of base player meant that while it was still good it wasn’t as good as previous times I’ve seen them.

The venue was the Albert Hall in Manchester a first time there for me, good intimate venue with stunning architecture and good sound, downside the toilets are in the basement and the venue is on the second floor.

Just heading out to St Luke’s to see Arab Strap, Gun playing Barrowlands too so lots of 50 yr old guys heading past the trongate tonight.

Was a good gig, 25 years since philophobia was released, then played a few newer ones, first time I’ve seen them and they didn’t play First Big Weekend but they did play the girls of summer. New album and a Barrowlands gig for 2024.

  5. I was at Young Fathers at the Barrowlands last night, fantastic gig, such a range of styles and as well as screaming the guys have a fantastic voices.
The music has so many layers and seeing all the band interact and making keeping everything tight look effortless.
Selling out a Monday and a Tuesday is a cracking achievement.
My night started with a woman walking past me with a brick which she then proceeded to put through a takeaway’s window, never a dull moment.

I am thinking that the new contracts for Flynn and Shaughnessy are as much to get fees for them if they end up moving.

Offering a contract to get a fee is only for young players (possibly under 21) where you are due a development fee if they move on and you have made an offer on at least as good terms as they had.
Contact offers to Flynn and Shaughnessy are because we see it being worthwhile having them next season.

    Arnotts.

I remember being in there with my mate, I must have been early/mid twenty and, for some reason, the security guard decided to follow us about.

We decided to pass almost half an hour looking at expensive items while he was getting more and more anxious.

May be an image of 4 people

That brings back some memories, I had a Saturday job in there in the Electrical Dept. Initially it was located above where pendulum is now and latterly it moved to the warehouse up the ramp at the far end of the photo beside the furniture section.

I was a firm Stereo1 fan, got wages from my saturday job, purchased record then swiftly home to get sorted for going to the match, happy days!

I had a Saturday job in Arnotts working in electrical sales, teles, video’s washing machines etc. Used to buy a cd a lunchtime from Stereo 1 or the Record Factory and would be able to play them in the shop in the afternoon while watching the scores roll in via teletext.
It worked well until I bought the Surfa Rosa / Come on Pilgrim Cd by Pixies and Nimrods Son got played out across the department…….

  10. I sold my car last May and looked at We buy, Motorway etc and in the end the dealer offered me the best price.

The online webuy price changed significantly over the space of 7 days and I found Motorway disappointing, they essentially set up an auction for your car, my car was a clean low mileage car just over 3 years old.  Their suggested price and reserve price was in line with the highest I’d had offered elsewhere but on auction day the closest bid was about £4k down.
I think the market is a bit less volatile now than May but my advice would be not to budget on the offer or suggested price from these buyers until you have the cash in your hand.

  11. Saw them once at the SECC. Was standing in amongst a section of the crowd that were all ecc’d up, we then moved and the rest of the crowd were all smoking hash.

Was a great gig and always harboured thoughts of seeing them again, would never be the same with out Maxi he was a phenomenal front man.
He also used to drive an RS2000 which to guys of a certain vintage commands respect in itself.
