  1. Thats the reason why when they say they had 30 applicants it means absolutely nothing. Those 30 applicants will be comprised of people like Craig Brewster and people who have won the champions league with St Mirren on Football Manager.
  2. He's a grown man, he shouldn't need anyone to advise him. He should be making the right decision abour these things himself. Will be a big loss if we lose him.
  3. The championship winning seasons have been the 3 most enjoyable seasons I've had supporting st mirren. All better than any Premier League season we've had. It's also reflected in the attendances as our average attendance the last time we were in the PL was only 3.5k. Last seasons was 1,000 more than that, and that's with a close to non existent away support for 90% of the games.
  4. Just because that is the way it has always been done doesnt make it right. If we had invested in giving a few of the more promising youngsters a longer contract we would have made some decent money from the long list of players we have let go for peanuts - McGinn, Mallan, Morgan, McAllister, McLean etc. Which IMO would well outweigh any loss we may make in giving a player a long term contract who turns out a failure. I'm not talking about giving these players millions, just an extra couple of years comited to us.
  5. I thought he would have jumped at it. His job of keeping Alloa up next year is going to be near on impossible IMO. They'll probably get relegated which won't be much fault of his own but his stock will resultantly drop.
  6. McGinn going to Celtic will be the worst case scenario for us which will mean we will get a good bit less money as Scott Allan will also be involved in the transfer. That will be another player we've developed and got very little money for. I really hope the board are at least considering rethinking our development strategy for our young players beyond the academy. These 2 year contracts are useless. 1 year to bed into the team, 1 year to play well then they are gone for peanuts.
  7. We should be looking at bringing Mallan home if we get a bit of cash. I see Hibs are interested at the moment.
  8. Looks like we've approached Lambert accordng to Sky Sports. They seem to be moving quickly anyway with plenty of approaches to talk to managers. I expect this to be concluded this week.
  9. Are you suggesting we should have started interviewing managers months ago when we were in a title race and still had a management team in place?
  10. Thats just standard chat they give. He's hardly going to come out and say "I want to manage a wee diddy club with no money" I think hed take it. We are a club on the up with good owners and still room to take us further.
  11. Zero chance of him getting another PL gig down south.
  12. It would be nice to get out the group this year. Should be able to beat all of them.
  13. Please no! Hope he prices himself out of it.
  14. Neilson done a great job at Hearts. Had them playing good football. He would be the best candidate for me. Don't want Hopkin. I can't see it working. This squad of players are used to playing (or trying to play) forward thinking, attacking football. Hopkin's style of football would be a backwards step IMO. McIntyre wouldn't be too bad but I'm a bit concerned about the turnaround of players under him at County. He signed 49 players in 3 years. Revolving doors like that never work. Even though Coyle made an arse of it, McIntyre didn't leave them in a good state.
  15. I'm shocked that the quoted figure of his salary is only 350k. 7 grand a week? They have a player on 70! Thought it would have been closer to 15k.
  16. So many toys have been thrown out the pram over this point its ridiculous. Jack has given us the best 18 months we've had since 99/00. Its been a remarkable turn around from where we were and he will always be a legend for that reason. Is he leaving in the most courteous ideal manner possible? Probably not but who really gives a f**k? Surely we must be mature enough to avoid getting upset over the semantics of it all and see the bigger picture. I'm gutted that he's leaving but I'm certainly not losing any sleep over who did or didn't phone who.
  17. The police will be loving it! They are the big winners here. Only need to segregate a small pocket of away fans at old firm games rather than a full stand of 8k.
  18. Even more amusing are the people actually suggesting that Goodwin would leave a managers job to come and be our assistant.
  19. That has always been the case for everyone except Celtic. Makes no difference to anyone else.
  20. Robbie Neilson is by far the stand out candidate. Done a great job at Hearts where so many have failed. Him or McIntrye will do.
  21. He's going from around 3 grand a week to around 15 grand a week. On what planet would a sane human being turn that down?
  22. We were in free fall when he took us over. The club had been on a downward spiral for years with us destined for league 1. He managed to turn it all around and get us back in the PL in 18 months. It's a good appointment for you. Much better than some of the journeymen like McLaren some of the clubs in the English lower leagues keep appointing.
  23. Thats why I said almost every club. Norwich good. Every other club was bad. He's been at 4 clubs since leaving Norwich in 2012 and every single one of them has been a failure. It's almost as impressive as Steve McLaren that he keeps getting jobs.
  24. Fair enough. I just feel he has had considerably more failures than success. It seems that if you are good in your first job down south you get 20 more opportunities irrespective of your ability but if you fail the first time its game over.
