4 or 5 you are not thinking straight.    :-

1st - out of these - Irvine, Morgan, Sutton, Kirkpatrick, Flanagan, Whyte, Duffy, Hill, Donati : only Morgan played regularly and he will be away so that is 9 (listed as being part of our current 1st team squad) for starters.

Add in guys like Todd, Stewart x2 and Stelios and we will be in double figures even before some of our guys sign on elsewhere (They may not but chances are someone will want one of our guys to bolster their squad - and several will be out of contract)

At previous transfer windows J & J have not held back - January this year was their gentlest yet - but the Premiership is a whole different ball game and we will have a budget about £1,000,000 higher - you think they will sit on that for a rainy day?

Most of the guys you have mentioned literally haven't kicked a ball for us this season so what does it matter if they go or not?

Morgan and Stelios leaving to be replaced with 5 high quality players would be an adequate improvement on the squad. I'm assuming in that we'll be able to sign Liam Smith on top of that. Maybe wishful thinking tbh.

Get real - any less than 10 - new additions to the current squad is lunacy...

Take a look at who won't be here next year :-

Irvine, Morgan, Sutton, Kirkpatrick, Flanagan, Whyte, Duffy, Hill, Donati

    Probably nots :-

    Todd, Liam Smith,

    No guarantees :-

    Reilly, Stelios, Ross Stewart (f)

A squad fit for the Premiership - will need to be on a whole different level to the last year...

    J & J know this...

This is one of the best squads we've had in years including seasons in the premier league. He won't want to completely decimate it and bring in as many as 10. There is no need and it would be counter productive.

This squad with 4/5 high quality additions will do fine in the premier league. Think how bad we were the last time we came down, players like Ball, Arquin, Marwood etc, we are night and day from that now. A team that absolutely smashes the championship in the manner we have will be well capable in the premier league.

    Thanks Faraway

    But

    In 2015/2016 Average 3,200

    In 2016/2017 Average 3,599

In 2017/2018 Average 4.247 with 3 good home games to go.

The facts are that we are on an upward trend.

Moving to the top league will ,in my opinion , build on that upward trend.

Attendances obviously include both home and away fans.

Both are likely to increase in 2018/2019 with perhaps the biggest jump being in the number of away fans who come to Paisley. C, R, Hearts, Hibs, Killie,   Motherwell and Aberdeen bring big numbers of supporters. There are stats available for those who want to look on away crowds at clubs. My guestimate is that away fans attending will increase by more than 500  per game.

That brings us back to how many Saints fans will come along. I am sticking with the  trend from last year to this and suggesting that we might add 500 per game on average.

Now if I were a director then I might choose to be a little guarded in my projections and in that I take on Faraway ' s well made point that these are large increases for any business.

Over to the manager, team and board to make it so attractive to come along that it's difficult to resist!

The part I don't think you are taking on board is the fact that we have a maximum number we can reach.

In 15/16 when we only had an average of 3200, we were nowhere near that maximum, many people were staying away due to results, the way the club was run etc.

Everything has completely changed since then which has resulted in such dramatic increase in attendances as all those fans have come back. We can't expect to continually see them same percentage increase year on year as we are pretty much at our maximum now. Anyone who isn't coming to watch us now isn't gonna be tempted by us next season either. This is one of the best seasons in the clubs history. This is very close to the absolute maximum we will get.

We will see an increase in the away support though but in terms of home support this is as good as it gets.

Agree with this and that's generous I think the trophy game with Morton being around 5,500.

We got around 8k for the Trophy days in 00 and 06. What makes you think it will be significantly less this time?

St Johnstone and Raith Rovers fans brought much less than Morton will bring on those days. With it being a derby as well the St Mirren end will sell out.

    That is hilarious reading that!

I really hope we aren't giving them the full stand. They won't fill it and we should be selling the stadium out with saints fans in all 4 stands that day.

Ideally just give them a wee section in the main stand or at worst split the away stand half and half.

Does anyone know if this has been discussed within the club or are we just giving them the full stand?

Aberdeen are in the process of building a new and larger stadium.

Dont mean to be pedantic but Aberdeen are not building a larger stadium. They are actually reducing the capacity slightly from 22k to 20k.

Surely over the years of supporting st mirren you've seen all this optimism before?

It' not rocket science. We are top of the league and winning every week so attendances are looking good (in comparison to the last time we won the division in 05/06 they aren't actually that good)

When we are back in the premier league and getting beat every week our attendances will go back to what they have always been. Look at clubs like Killie and Motherwell. Similar size fan bases and they are getting about 3500/4000 most weeks.

Yeah, struggling to find a good motive and it's also not in the Russian interest at the moment. They gain nothing positive from this.

Having said that, psychopaths don't always follow logic.

So much of is isnt and will never be in the public domain so its hard to decide whether there was a motive or not. He may have done something in the last month which has made them decide he needs to go.

Russia's economy is crippled with sanctions at the moment and they really dont want any more.

My two cents worth is that Putin doesnt have as much control over his intelligence agency as the rest of the world assumes. There are probably different people from within vying for power and this has happened without the approval of Putin.

He'll never come out and say that publically or even let our government know that privately as it would be admitting he doesn't have complete control over whats going on.

It' all just guesses though. We'll never really know.

So following this great run they are on they have gained a grand total of 1 point on us.

Time to stop the worrying and just concentrate on ourselves.

  9. It's an absolute disgrace. These players are the charlatans that once again failed to qualify for a major tournament now they are moaning about playing the friendlies.

If they qualified for the WC they would get significantly less time off in the summer.

The England game last year was on the 10th of June. The last of the two friendlies is the 2nd of June so they are already getting a full week longer for holiday this year than they did last year.

They are an embarrassment and need to take a good look at themselves.

  10. I expected us to win the league at the start of the season and nothing has changed my mind on that.

Dundee Utd have a marginally better squad on paper IMO but only marginally which means FA in the grand scheme of things.  We've had a stable squad for 12 months now and the 2nd best manager in the country so I am confident we will last the pace.

On the criticism of Stellios - he has been an importan player of our team this year and I rate him highly however he had 2 howlers on Saturday and deserves the criticism for it. Doesnt mean hes a bad player or not good enough etc, just means he had a bad game, got criticised and now we move on.

  11. I wouldnt say we'll never see a saints player get a testimonial again.

Baird had got a decent chance of it. Hes in the right mid range of ability where he's good enough to stay at us and still get a game with improvement, but not too good where a bigger team will come in for him.

Cheesy played for us for long enough in the premier league and I think Baird is a step up from him. Can see him being here a long time.

  12. Surely its got to be the cup?

Think how fondy 87 is still looked back upon. These are the big and defining moments throughout any fans life supporting the club.

We will get back into the premier league at some point but winning the cup happens alot less frequently.

If its the difference between the league and a cup RUN thats completely different. It would be the league every time as i think we have close to zero chance of actually winning the cup and ive got no appetite to see us get to a final or semi and getting beat over winning the league.
