  1. The chain of events was, Morais was appointed on 16th Feb, they had already made their mind up 6 days earlier and he was asked to attend our game against Wednesday on the 10th Feb. Jack had not ruled himself out, they had already made their decision. A fecking wrong one at that!
  2. Mourinho's assistant, lets hope he doesn't take him to Man U in the summer..
  3. We normally put them on rolling 1 year contracts. Interesting comment from our CEO Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye spoke to barnsleyfc.co.uk after concluding the search for the Reds’ new man. He said: “We’re really, really pleased to have secured the Club’s number one target from the start of the process. We invited José to the Sheffield Wednesday match and began talks immediately with him and his representatives. To be fully transparent, we ran a fair and full interview process. We spoke to a lot of Head Coaches who were both in and out of employment. The interviewed candidates were all strong contenders, but the unanimous decision was to appoint José who instilled the full board with the belief that he is the right man to lead us up the table, whilst bringing excitement back to the Club with an attacking style and goals for the fans to enjoy.
  4. The news coming out of our end and what l posted before he made his statement is that after a day of interviews Ross wasn't the front runner and he was aware of this. By 5pm yesterday both Ross and Toshack (who the BBC were both touting as front runners) were not our boards choice. Great news for you guys and surely he will go on now to secure promotion for you. Who knows, the new guy may even give Mallan a game Best of luck for rest of the season, looks like you have a cracking set up up there.
  5. Yes, he posted at 5.30 this evening that a Portuguese coach was the front runner and not Ross or Toshack. Amazing a few hours after Ross pulls out... hope you haven’t given him the new contract.
  6. I think it’s fair to say that Ross is not our top target. This guy RedArmyChris is on the ball with the transfers and goings on at the club, he gets inside information and he’s spot on 99% of the time. Check his posts here and you’ll see what l mean. http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/search/1637579/ more importantly for you lot. http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/its-ross-or-toshack-according-to-the-bbc.264861/
  7. Our main football reporter, if anything’s happening he’ll be the first to tweet at our end. https://mobile.twitter.com/Gids1980/status/963870489335750656?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet
  8. Whoever takes over will not be sacked if we go down, it’s not our style, in recent years Wilson and Parkin both kept their jobs after failing to get us out of it. We’ve 3 of the relegation battling teams in our next 3 games so we’ll see where we are then. Personally there’s 3 shitter teams than us in that division.
  9. Could the increased turnover at Barnsley be their share of the John stones transfer from Everton to man city? All explained at the bottom of page 32
  10. One of many interviewed today and yesterday, l don't think its that clear cut as the Scottish reporters are saying. Wouldnt surprise me if he's still your manager on Saturday.
  11. Far from it, look on twitter at our fans #teamslikebarnsley hashtag. All our players/Managers are eventually pilfered by the bigger clubs. A chance to cock waft and we'll take it.......with two hands.
  12. If you look on our forums and go back a few weeks a lot of fans were calling for his head, we're on a bad run remember. Now he has two options, stay at his boyhood club Barnsley and risk getting sacked in a couple of weeks? and then what - lower league management? or take up Leeds 18 month contract offer that would make him a millionaire, he could get sack in two months, would he be bothered? they would have to pay his contract up.
  13. It's been a very good recent few years since the spreadsheet started, bottom of League 1 in December to Play off places in May, winning the JPT at Wembley, cruising through the play offs winning the semi final 6-1 on aggregate and then the final at Wembley 3-1 (9-1 one of the biggest margins in play off history) having a good season back in the Championship within touching distance of the play offs before key players were sold, highlights including beating multi-million pound sides like Villa on their own patch 3-1. The only problem we have is once they have played a season or two the players are then on bigger clubs radars and we have no option to sell, if we could get them on 2nd contracts it would be the icing on the cake. Sorry, to add to this - due to the spreadsheet we do have about 75 central midfielders for some strange reason.. that's the frustrating part, stack them high...
  14. The last two have moved onto clubs within touching distance of the Premier League, one's averaging over 20,000 with a billionaire pumping millions into them and just completed a £45 million ground refurbishment and the other are averaging over 30,000, spending millions and the biggest team in Yorkshire. I think they should have stayed as well..
  15. A huge cost to two multi-billionaire owners on the board? They are in it for the long run, they joined in December so are unable to do anything with the income streams this season as things like shirt sponsorship etc are on a season long deals. They will bring in their own companies in the summer and more than likely sponsor the ground, training academy and stands, relegation will be a blip no doubt about it but not devastating. Their biggest project will be building the club up off the field and increasing the fan base. Ps a couple of wins after a very good transfer window and it could all be different. McBurnie looks immense.
  16. The moneyball system that was adopted a couple of years ago, or as our forum like to call it "the fecking excel spreadsheet" it even has a twitter account. The reason why Billy Beane is on board, Brentford also do a similar thing.
  17. Those manager stats that were posted included Caretaker Managers put in charge short term, last manager to be sacked was Danny Wilson in Feb 2015. We changed our philosophy on managers a few years ago, even keeping one that had lost 7 on the bounce.
  18. Afternoon. You have quoted the figures from 3 years ago, our relegation season and not the latest accounts. £9.4m turnover (2014) Championship £4.8m turnover (2015) League 1 Huge difference in the two league, relegation costs us £6 million. If you look at the latest accounts, they are filed under small company accounts so therefore don't reveal much but point 18 says "Following the year end, the club realised net profits of £10m before any contingent amounts receivable, in respect of player registration trading." This is due to in August 2016 where Stones signed for Man City and we received a £6.6m sell on and we also sold Alfie Mawson to Swansea for £5.5m. In the following transfer window Hourihane, Bree and Winnall were all sold for a combined total of £5.75m with big add on's, in the summer Marc Roberts was sold for an initial £3.5m rising with appearances and another big sell on percentage. So in a little over 12 months we sold £21 million worth of talent, 2 had come through our academy, 2 were free transfer and the other two were bought for a combined fee of £400,000. Add into these figures promotion back to the Championship and an highest average attendance for 16 years - the next two years accounts will be record breaking for us. That's not including another one of our academy lads - Mason Holgate who will be getting close to appearance money after his initial £1 million pound move. Then there's the new owners... https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/barnsley-fc/five-things-you-need-to-know-about-barnsley-s-new-owners-1-8919861
