  1. I thought it might be useful to start this thread so those that want to bicker can continue on the other thread and those that want to discuss the topic can continue here.
  2. Actually check out the OP. There’s a valid question there- you might not agree with it, but it’s a strategy. I say it’s a balance- we should have a go, but be mindful that a good championship campaign can give us a second chance at the platform we thought we had post-Ross.
  3. I disagree. The thread is good. The title could have been better.
  4. Thanks for comments lads. There’s a lesson for me, but I’m posting in case the club picks it up and thinks there might be one for them.
  5. Oh well. Was checking line ups before heading out to match and see it’s already started. Enjoy the game lads. I accept this is my bad for not checking, but perhaps the club have incurred a risk by changing the ko time. Why?
  6. Hot rumour: following Hammill’s strike against Hibs, Hibs are targeting a new keeper in the January transfer window. Says Neil Lennon, “that dog’s a keeper”
  7. Sounds like this match could make it into our best draws of the season compilation CD.
  8. Hibs could easily have avoided this goal. They stood off Hammill for far too long. Cant’t do that with him within 70m of goal ;)
  9. The writer is a good and funny journalist. Thanks to him.
  10. He appears to say something to they guy next to him in the same flowing move. People around should be questioned on what he said. IIRC clubs have been forced to play matches behind closed doors for this kind of thing....
  11. I refuse to believe we cannot match the budgets of the these teams if we are playing in the same league.
  12. I think this the problem you identify is St Mirren’s opportunity. Let people attracted to the Old Firm do what they do. We can offer an alternative for people who can’t be bothered with it.
  13. Hendo- it’s not a board game. You can’t just pay money into the bank and get a Hotel instantly on Park Lane. Even if the board were able to make the funds available, it needs another party- the right party- to deal. Sorry but it’s a real stretch to imply the board have no faith.
  14. I think people need patience and to accept that this is a team and management in transition, and that they are doing so under challenging circumstances. Bear in mind that this management team was appointed after a process and only then could they start to assemble their team; that the McGinn money only clarified late in the transfer window; that the Betfred was very early in the life of the new team; that 50% of the premiership experience has been against top teams. We have had two possibly winnable games in the league- and we won won one of them. I also think it’s a bit of a numbers game with signing guys from English reserves/ lower leagues. Some will work out, some will not. Get used to it. Alan Stubbs was a defender and captain of teams. I trust him to sort out our defense. Having said all this, I suspect that the next transfer window will be Stubbs’ opportunity to plug the holes that he finds over the first three months. So I’m strapped in and will be philosophical until then. However, I do expect to see some stabilization before January.
  15. I guess the club will assess all the options. But we are at an unusual moment in time, where we can invest in something tangible, enduring and potentially revenue enhancing. Let’s do something that ticks all those boxes while we can.
  16. For the sake of sanity I leave you the last word- and let it ring.
  17. My main point is to invest to increase revenue possibility in the long term. Our stadium is presently a constraint in being able to compete even with other mid premier teams including St Johnstone, Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Dundee- so I think it is valid to consider if and when we do something about it. Your point about our 10 year history is a fair one but we have recently had some acrimony about we dal with old firm support- and I would rather our ambition not be constrained by the experience of the last 10 years. PS- if you don’t like people expressing their views you might stay away from discussion boards.
  18. Fundamentally, this money should be spent to enhance the possibility of the club generating revenue in the future. It would be thrilling to see a couple of marquee signings but they could fail and the benefit in any event be short lived. Let’s go for stadium improvement say to 10 k capacity- even if only enabling works to move the floodlights from the corners and pave the way for temporary or permanent seating.
  19. Maybe, just maybe, St Mirren are a sexier proposition than we realize. Great training facility, smart little stadium, but if history, adjacent to Glasgow airport, good board and on the rise with the core of a squad left by Scotland’s manager of the year. There are examples of clubs/ countries punching above their weight eg Iceland, Bournemouth, the Scandinavian team managed by that Englishman... What have the young aspiring princes of the managerial world got to lose? Come to Paisley for a year, work their contact book, cut their teeth as a gaffer. These guys don’t need the money. If they succeed they become heroes and go straight back where they belong; if they don’t..... well, they can say it was only St Mirren and they got the experience they wanted.
  20. Actually- there is a stuff that is a blend of grass and artificial. I forget what it’s called but it could be the way to go. My second thought is that if clubs invested in a proper technology including heating and drainage then they might not have the kind of cancellations that have blighted this season.
  21. First post. If there was demand enough for a larger stadium, say example the club was could move forward and compete with the Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen’s of this world on a sustainable long term basis how would the club satisfy it? Does anyone know if there are expansion continginencies built into the current stadium design? PS I’m showing my age with my answer to the quiz question to register here. “Who is current St Mirren manager: Alex who?” I answered “Miller.”
