    A meaningless graph

The real issue is what is the excess number of deaths over and above what you would normally expect.

And in Europe, so far, the answer is none

I do realise however that you’ll struggle to understand this

Lots of pictures appearing of the fcuk wits who stockpiled food having to cram it into the bin.
Probably the same arseholes who were taking pictures of empty shelves.
Only small consolation is they've wasted money.

I'm surprised that it has taken so long to reach this conclusion. It has been glaringly obvious for some time.

Corona: An Epidemic of Mass Panic
    By Prof. Peter C. Gøtzsche

“What if the Chinese had not tested their patients for coronavirus or there had not been any test? Would we have carried on with our lives, without restrictions, not worrying about some deaths here and there among old people, which we see every winter? I think so.”

the mortality is so different in Italy and South Korea, I do find it very prudent that they told people to stay in their homes in South Korea if they fall ill, and only if they become very sick, will a car come and bring them to a hospital that is not overcrowded. If the infectious dose is high, mortality will also be higher because there will not be sufficient time to establish an immune response. Therefore, overcrowded hospitals will have higher mortality rates. The panic does just that: leads to overcrowded hospitals.

The panic looks like an unfortunate overreaction. We don’t even know if the risk of dying if you get infected with Coronavirus is higher than if you get influenza, or so many other virus infections, and most of those who die are old and suffer from comorbidity, just like for influenza.

Our main problem is that no one will ever get in trouble for measures that are too draconian. They will only get in trouble if they do too little. So, our politicians and those working with public health do much more than they should do. No such draconian measures were applied during the 2009 influenza pandemic, and they obviously cannot be applied every winter, which is all year round, as it is always winter somewhere. We cannot close down the whole world permanently.

A 44 yo marathon runner was killed by CV, as his heart could no longer take the strain, we were told.  He wasn’t killed by CV.  He has had AIDs since 1997.  The marathon is a tough race.  It tests weaknesses.  His death was not unusual or special.
a 19yo had died from CV.  It is now thought she may have committed suicide.  The CV link was only due to someone saying, O’Shea had been coughing”.

it is thought that CV has been in circulation in UK since January 2020,  at least.  A lot of the population probably has the markers and antibodies now in our systems.  If we die now for whatever reason, doubtless it “was because of CV!”

Thanks for the recommendations. I had given it a miss, as I feel the Holocaust coverage is relentless, compared to similar atrocities, but it is actually pretty good.

I have never called Rishi Sunak a tax evader. I think you're mixing me up with someone else.
The current series of covid-19 bailouts are unprecendented in our history with only a handful of people slipping through the net. That is a magnificent effort IMO and it's deeply depressing that when the government is trying to prevent people starving in the street and the total collapse of our entire economy that there are some people bleating on about "Aye but whit aboot the rich".
I'm not disagreeing that structural change is required but FFS this is hardly the time for it.

Oaky. Why do you have such a morbid fascination with predicting people dying? seems a strange hobby to have. Will you be on here heralding your numbers if they turn out relatively accurate?
    Here's a figure for you.
SCOTLAND HAS AROUND 10% OT THE POPULATION OF England YET  ONLY 4% OF THE DEATHS.
You could extrapolate the feck out of that.

As for hoping for as low a death toll as possible, then yes, I’m guilty as charged.

It’s the folk that are hoping for a higher death toll and who are gleefully posting about the numbers of who have died that is worrying.

The guy who wrote this must have read TPAFTWAT’s drivel

These are interest groups that are never satisfied with the government’s response to Covid-19 because they are interest groups completely unconcerned with Covid-19 itself and its impact on public health – and instead – concerned only with how they can generate and leverage public hysteria to advance their entirely unrelated and self-serving political agenda. Again, this is done with complete indifference to the damage being done to society by doing so.

Stanford Health Policy's Eran Bendavid and Jay Bhattacharya write in this Wall Street Journal editorial that current estimates about the COVID-19 fatality rate may be too high by orders of magnitude.

"If it’s true that the novel coronavirus would kill millions without shelter-in-place orders and quarantines, then the extraordinary measures being carried out in cities and states around the country are surely justified. But there’s little evidence to confirm that premise—and projections of the death toll could plausibly be orders of magnitude too high.

"Fear of Covid-19 is based on its high estimated case fatality rate — 2% to 4% of people with confirmed Covid-19 have died, according to the World Health Organization and others. So if 100 million Americans ultimately get the disease, 2 million to 4 million could die. We believe that estimate is deeply flawed. The true fatality rate is the portion of those infected who die, not the deaths from identified positive cases."

"The latter rate is misleading because of selection bias in testing. The degree of bias is uncertainbecause available data are limited. But it could make the difference between an epidemic that kills 20,000 and one that kills 2 million. If the number of actual infections is much larger than the number of cases—orders of magnitude larger—then the true fatality rate is much lower as well. That’s not only plausible but likely based on what we know so far."
