  1. Because Celtic fans will not observe the minute's silence. They will boo and jeer and sing songs like "Lizzy's in a box", as did Shamrock Rovers fans. If the game's televised they will need to cut the microphones, but it will still go viral on Twitter.

  3. No reason besides scandalising Scottish football, you mean?
  4. Which is exactly my point! Will it be postponed? No doubt it'll be on TV, too. A minute's applause...for the Queen?

I have just realised next Sunday's game against Celtic is the day before the Queen's funeral. Surely we will have a minute's silence? I suspect it'll be called off.
  6. Is this definitely going ahead? Remember, it's the day before the Queen's funeral, so a minute's silence will be appropriate.

If only the owner realised it should have an apostrophe! English owned?
  8. It wasn't the Monarchy who insisted upon that though, but the SPFL. I think it was the wrong decision by them, but then again if we held a minute's silence would fans have respected it? Probably not - and I believe they have every right not to, btw. I will miss the football today, and I won't pretend I'm mourning. I support the Monarchy, and I'm slightly saddened by her death, but then she was 96 years old! She wasn't immortal.

I agreed with you - Churchill was a racist. If we're going to go around adorning statues with graffiti describing people's character flaws, then every single one will be vandalised. Show me a man who has no character flaws and I will show you a liar. I never knew there was a referendum on mass-immigration, though (asked in by us - not our government)! Learn something new every day...I think I will leave that there, as I don't like where this is going. Have a nice day, sir.

    1) Have you any evidence to substantiate your claim that the local Bristol population was 'predominantly black'? In law one who asserts must prove. Even if that is the case, which I doubt, I suspect the vast majority of the black population moved to Bristol after WWII, in which case it was well over 100+ years since the abolition of slavery (abolished in 1833; nearly 200 years ago). To voluntarily move to another country, presumably for a better life, and tear down its statues is an act of vandalism - though I do not accept it was black people who were responsible. 2) Churchill had racist views, as did many people during that time - "keep England white". He also was premier during WWII, when he saw us defeat the Nazis. If that doesn't deserve a statue in his honour then I don't know what does. I understand the UK threatened to go to war with Brazil over the issue of slavery - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British-Brazilian_Treaty_of_1826

You don't need an elected president, as such, you could have the same system as now, it would just cut out the step of having to have the monarch signing things off. Nothing else, in political terms, need really change. After all, they're really just a figurehead with no real power. But isn't it better to have a ceremonial head of state who would entertain the likes of Donald Trump, Putin or a future Mme Le Pen, when our own prime minister might be opposed to that person for political reasons? Isn't that the point? You have a staunch Labour prime minister like Corbyn and a figure like Netanyahu and a politically neutral figurehead is essential.

I've never been particularly enamoured by Charles, or King Charles III as he is now, but I thought his speech was poignant and dignified. I have heard people on here suggest that they felt it bizarre that people mourn her. I consider that almost every day I handle coins on which is etched her portrait; I recall pledging allegiance to her aged about seven years' old as a cub scout and later during my very brief stint in the military; my father was born under her reign and she appointed Winston Churchill as her first prime minister; I watched her speech most years on Christmas Day; and of course I have seen her in the news and in the newspapers. It's the end of an era, and I won't pretend that doesn't sadden me a little. I am a libertarian - I very strongly believe in freedom of speech. So those so inclined, you're perfectly entitled - as far as I am concerned, but this is a private forum belonging to @div, remember - to make crass remarks. To be fair, I don't think I have seen any on here, and I hope that remains the case. Of course, I understand that some folk are Republicans, and I respect your right to an opinion - how you think a president like Blair would be better than a Monarch, is beyond my understanding. Should a president be elected, you will have all the sleaze and politics that comes with it. You won't convince me that isn't a bad thing. With me, I am more a fan of the Monarchy as an institution, as opposed to a personality. But as I said, Charles has worried me, and I am not necessarily a fan of his. However, there are signs he might change my mind. It doesn't work as well when the Monarchs are different genders, but: The Queen is dead; long live the King!

That place is full of absolute roasters, in fact worse, I'd describe them as spiteful subnormals. I banned myself from there, because of some of the vile scum that frequent it.

What she did was disgusting and tasteless, though I have seen similar incidents following the death of Margaret Thatcher. However, I don't approve of the lynch mob that attacked her property and apparently wanted to assault her - that's even more disgusting. I think her business is finished and she may have to leave the area, however the same could have been achieved through a boycott of her business.

Aye, Charles III. I think he'll be the last Monarch, btw. I am fond of the Royal Family as an institution, and would hate to see a president (Blair?!), but I think the younger generations don't approve of it.
  18. When Elvis says we were the better team, there's got to be some truth to it! They of course won't even count as shots on target! It definitely strikes me from the stats and some of the comments that we were unfortunate to lose 3-0. As someone else said, I would have taken 9 points after six games. The only problem is we have yet to play the Old Firm or Hearts...
  19. Nine corners to their one implies we were pressuring them. I'd be interested to read the opinions of those who watched the game.
  20. Scotland are playing the Lionesses? I didn't see the game today, but was cynical enough to expect nothing. It is difficult to imagine that we were unfortunate to lose, given the score, which was obviously very disappointing, however the match stats wouldn't suggest it was a one-sided affair: Did we squander chances like last week? Hit the woodwork? We did have the majority of the possession...
