  1. There’s absolutely no chance we can match what they will pay a manager. We should think smart on what bonuses we can offer. If each league position is worth £80k from memory, why don’t we offer £8-10k for 6th place and the same again for every place above. That gives a realistic, achievable incentive of £24-30k to go after between now and the end of season. Chuck in another £10k for delivering European football. That would test his ambition. If he could do achieve that then he would be the best performing Saints manager since the early 80’s. Incidentally, if (and I don’t expect it to happen) we win against Livi and Dundee in the next 2 games - Goodwin would have us going into the Hearts home game with an opportunity close the gap to 3rd to 5 points at most. Possibly less if Hearts don’t beat St.Johnstone at the weekend. St. Mirren have backed him. He now has the opportunity to do something really special - and to rectify the disappointment of the 2 lost semi finals and missed top 6 last year. Question is will he back himself to do that.
  2. Seems to be picking up momentum in the news stories according to the Daily Record. The papers love this feeding frenzy around a manager vacancy and gives them the opportunity to engage at least 2 sets of fans compared to the usual daily irrelevance of their newspapers. I’m keeping an open mind and not taking anything as gospel for now. I still struggle to see how Goodwin would be a standout 1st choice for Aberdeen. I do remember Willie Miller raving about how we played against them a couple of times up at Pittodrie. Pretty sure we lost 1 and drew 1 of those games. Funny old game if that’s what has stuck in their mind as a couple of games of high pressing, possession football (not exactly the norm over the extended course of Goodwin’s reign) with us ultimately not getting a result. I can imagine that they want to talk to Goodwin + others. I reckon that has led to this standoff to force Aberdeen to agree the money is available rather than us bend over. If Goodwin is showing interest then that’s only to be expected to play to his own strengths in this position. Whether he’s genuinely interested in moving now or not, he’d be daft not to play his cards to try and get a better deal out of this.
  3. Maybe in the sense that they’re 3rd in the league and seem to be the best of the rest, but being in a QF of the cup and avoiding the Old Firm is cause for excitement. A quarter final tie at Tynecastle is an occasion and opportunity to relish. You need to upset the odds to make memories and this is a good chance for Goodwin and the players to really make a mark against a good, but not unbeatable, Hearts team. Hope we get a decent number of tickets. Hearts had a pretty poor turnout in last 16 vs Livi.
  4. I find the interest from some Dons fans and pundits in JG a bit lazy/bizarre. He is far from a standout manager - plenty of mistakes, long runs of rotten form, uninspiring tactics & performances. Transfer dealings prob more good than bad but there’s still a number of duds. He’s been talked up since the night we beat Rangers. I honestly can’t see how he would fit the bill for Aberdeen. Incidentally, I think he’s still at a good stage of cutting his teeth with us. If he can deliver a top 6 finish with us and then enters the following season with us looking like a clear top 6 team then that really elevates his status for me. For now, he’s just another middle of the pack manager IMO. (BTW - I love the handsome man and wholly support him)
  5. Erhahon has the attributes to be a very decent calibre midfielder with a bit of fine tuning. Let’s hope we get to see him improve for us and then get a transfer that benefits both parties.
  6. Absolutely this. We weren’t exactly doing badly with having players like Thompson, Teale, Mooy, McGowan, Carey, etc. the last time we beat Rangers at home. The thing with the much trotted line about the difference in cash being a couple of players - the same would apply to Motherwell. They could be pushing the boat out to keep Watt and have some other big name players. Where do you draw the line if your core fans are not looked after?
  7. Lack of police presence was strange given I saw mounted police at last week’s fixture against Aberdeen which is a much lower profile game. There’s been wee fannies running about outside Fir Park every time we’ve played them in the last few years. As you said, the stewards had no chance to maintain the fenced off area but it comes back on the club and stewarding company at the end of the day. I don’t know why they don’t have one of those big sheets over that whole section of seats. If they had that it would have avoided the whole situation. Ultimately it’ll cost the club in additional stewarding and police costs in future games.
  8. Indeed. I only jest. BC was excellent and gets the credit for Teale. I think Thommo decided himself that he was coming to Saints and told his agent to get it done though.
  9. In fairness - I mainly remember Brian Caldwell for appearing in the press talking about painting the away dressing room black and how it would have a psychological effect on Away teams. Lol. Always thought that if there was any merit in that, surely you don’t tell them about it in public. 😂 Pretty sure that was the season we got pumped nearly every week and relegated.
  10. A great servant to the club and someone who always talks St.Mirren and the town up - even if it’s seen to be a bit over-exuberant at times. I wasn’t sure that Tony was the right CEO to take us forward but having him in an ambassador type role is a no brainer. Would be lovely to finish on a high with a top 6 finish. Let’s hope the club get a Brian Caldwell type back in the chair for a successor. That’s a discussion for another day though.
  11. Great to see Kiltie finding his feet in the team this last few games. Hopefully a lot more to come over the remainder of the season.
  12. A wee bit raw which is to be expected but the boy has undoubted ability and looks like he has a good attitude as well.
  13. Was he not working in Pure Gym or something before offered him a gig? (Probably from Fitzy who first signed him?) Easily replaced I am sure.
  14. All very confusing. Surely Saintees were going to be paying his wages for the remainder of the season. By calling him back we risk being lumbered with that outlay unless they think it’s worth the cash to spring him early. Would we be due a development fee from the PCA?
  15. Out of interest - roughly how many shareholders attend the AGM in normal times? I have no idea how many shareholders we actually have.
  16. I was captivated by Guni but probably don’t remember much of him. I’d probably say that Basher was my fave. I remember the feeling of shock when he was sold to Hibs as the news broke at a midweek League cup game (against Brechin?) at Love St. Equally, the excitement when he re-signed on loan from Hibs - that first game against Raith Rovers was the start of a magical season.
  17. Folk were questioning on Sat why Erhahon wasn’t starting. Does anyone think Cammy would be ahead of him in the queue? I don’t think MacPherson seized any of the opportunities he had previously so wouldn’t look to him as an answer to our current form.
  18. They presumably wouldn’t have had enough power with less than 25% investment as per the response above. IIRC, the 27% included a percentage of shares that GLS was previously going to hold on to. By adding these in to the Kibble proposal it took them over the 25%.
  19. Hibs , 3 games in a week and one eye on the cup final .... or will they turn in a performance playing their cup final places? I predict a draw.
  20. FFS. 😂 If I didn’t like the (democratic) decisions being made at my golf club I would be entitled to discontinue my membership. Who’s disrespecting a democratic process by not agreeing ya feckin drama Queen?
  21. Whilst recognising this is a rumour, you seem to be endorsing this course of action? I’d suggest that fans will agree/disagree whether JN should stay or go, but having someone actively looking for legal routes to remove him outwith the club board / voting structures and mechanisms is somewhat acting in bad faith. Although I’m sure you’ll disagree.
  22. Reports of ‘Kibble Out’ chants at Pittodrie. While I’m critical of the decision to bring them into the club, I don’t think that’s directly relevant to our failings on the pitch today. Whatever is happening behind the scenes is obviously working it’s way round the support though. The irony being that we had our club in our own hands and decided to give that up. A golden opportunity passed up and now seemingly with a fight on our hands for control. All so unnecessary.
  23. I don’t think our personnel on the park at that bad but we have seemed imbalanced all season and Goodwin has never had us comfortable going forward, even last season when folk were getting carried away.
  24. I think now would probably be a good time for a bit of an honest reality check for everyone involved. Recognising some may have been blindsided by the PR pitch surrounding the Kibble deal. The reality is that for all the talk of mutually beneficial arrangement, common goals in the community, etc. - Kibble are duty bound to look after and protect their own interests first and foremost. That, in essence, is the accepted conflict that was approved and introduced in the SMISA decision. It will continue that way for as long as Kibble remain. There needs to be a bit of reflection from the club (SMISA, members and fans) on whether this is to our benefit. That requires some open conversations on what is going well and what problems are arising.
  25. So, Chris Stewart is gone? Most people will never have heard of him I’m guessing. He’s listed as Director and Secretary. Responsible for all legal matters of the club and had been in place since 2010. https://www.stmirren.com/club/about-st-mirren/meet-the-board
