.........   Baird is a good player, he wouldn't be a professional at any level if he wasn't, .... but I've never been convinced that he has what it takes at the level we are playing at just now. ......... As others have already said, he's definitely a 100%-er, and no fan of any club is ever going to really complain about any player who gives his all week-in-week-out, but I think I can see where JG is coming from in allowing him to step down a division on loan. ...... It's a similar scenario to the Marc McCausland one a few years back, ....... decent enough player, 100% effort every week, fans like him, but there's just that wee question-mark about which level he should actually be playing at. ...

Interesting that Cheesy is playing in the top tier in Iceland. A country that is boasting a better record in international football that our nation despite only having a population of 330,000.

........ Yip. ....... And it's possible that something similar to that could happen to Jack Baird, he's only in his early twenties. .....

  3. ..... This whole sorry affair has made me more angry with the club than anything else has since my first season as a fan in  '67/'68. ....... (except maybe when they swapped Lex Richardson for Eric Sinclair) ..... Much as I would love to see our ground filled with our own fans every week,  I'm not idealistic enough to believe it'll ever happen, and I'm pragmatic enough to acknowledge that it probably never will. .....

Idealism is  school of thought that people hold related to unrealistic expectations (often not realised). No issue with people holding a will for the ideal, it's more the unrealistic expectation of achieving.

........... Sorry if I misled you into thinking I was looking for some kind of philosophical debate, ... that wasn't my intention at all. .......... Merely commenting on how your (unintentional I'm sure) post could easily be misconstrued as condescending by some people. ...

Idealism has been a running theme on this website for as long as I have been on it. I find it very strange, I think I realised before I was 16 that's not how the world works.

Perhaps you should edit this post. .... It reads to me like you're suggesting that people who have ideals are not quite as smart as you are. ..... Comes  across as a little bit condescending at best, .... and the easy-offended might find it downright rude. ... Just a wee suggestion. ..

If only it was that simple.   The more successful, the more the possibility, but I wouldn't hold my breath.  We have fans who work Saturdays, who have moved further afield and can't afford the expense, unlike you.   A couple of possibly a dozen reasons why people can't attend.

...... Agreed. We are never going to have 6000+ season ticket holders. I can't think of a club of a similar stature who has. ...... I also can't think of a club of a similar stature who sells their home end to the OF when they come to town. ....

  7. ....... I haven't been to an away game at either of the O.F. since the early 90's. ..... Away fans at those grounds are treated like shite by the home fans, stewards, AND the local constabulary. .......... I say we should treat those f**kers with the same contempt as they treat fans of every other club. ..... Give them the worst seats with the worst view in the house. ...... Throw pies and paper cups full of piss at them. .... Take their flags and banners from them, and eject them from the ground if they stand up for any reason whatsoever. ...... I can't believe that we as a club are prepared to hand over the "home" end to those bigoted bastards for ANY reason. ...... IMO it's an absolute disgrace and I don't know anyone personally who thinks otherwise. .... Call me old-fashioned if you like, but I reckon that principles are far more important than any amount of money which has been tainted by either of those rancid institutions. ......

  8. ........ Two years back, it was after the East Fife cup-tie in Methil that things really began to come together on the park. ........ That said, the top division is an entirely different proposition to the championship, but it will take a few weeks for the new players to get up to speed. Judge them in a month's time. ...... It may be too late now to save us from relegation, but then again it may not be. ...... There are plenty of twists and turns ahead of us yet. ....... Personally, I would have given McIntyre the job in the summer, but I wouldn't write Oran off just yet. ....

No doubt most managers move on at some stage in their careers.

However we do not compare favourably with most other teams currently in the SPFL in terms of holding on to a reasonably successful manager.

...... I'm trying to think of managers in my time who weren't sacked/mutual-consented out of the door, but left of their own volition to clubs who in their opinion were a better proposition than St. Mirren were. ...... There may well be others but I'm stuck at Jack Ross and Alex Miller. .........
