  1. Genuinely one of the most committed players I've seen in a St. Mirren shirt. Hopefully he can still do the business, but certainly confident he will lead by example and the young players will look up to him.
  2. I don't recall anyone moaning about a massive white H on last year's kit. If it's in your nature to moan, at least be consistent rather than just seeking new stuff to moan about all the time.
  3. Yes, Jamie Ramsden was at the club when we won the league in 2006. Left us to join Celtic and now at Rangers.
  4. 9 hole courses worth trying... Hamilton, Strathclyde Park (good course, decent challenge) Broadlees, between East Kilbride & Strathaven (good course, decent challenge) Strathendrick, by Drymen (fun course) Ross Priory, by Gartocharn (decent) Mearns Castle. (Decent) Playsport, east kilbride. (Fun but expensive. Holes are modelled on famous holes) Larkhall (not played, but meant to be good - south lanarkshire cncl have a good golf set-up) Calderbraes, Uddingston (not played, but meant to be decent) Others (which are probably worth avoiding) Knightswood Ruchill Alexandra Park.
  5. W7 has made a difference. If maintained, It will also benefit the atmosphere longer term as it means kids who want a sing song for 90mins know where to go. It's also closest to away fans which makes a big difference, particularly when the larger away crowds visit next season. The fence in the old North Bank was a draw for those reasons. When we moved to the new stadium, there wasn't anything designated and fans spread about, so old habits were lost along with that focal point. Away games tend to be better atmospheres, because the away support is more concentrated, often had a few beers and feed off each other more than at home. Conversely, at Brechin recently we were spread around three sides of the park and the normal away atmosphere suffered. Incidentally, I hope to fu©k on Saturday that no dross music is played over the PA system when the team raise the trophy and do their lap of honour. The music after the Livi game was horrendous, killing any opportunity for the crowd to actually create an atmosphere by belting out the songbook.
  6. Not only have his performances been excellent, he is one of the senior and most experienced players in the squad. He provides a lot of leadership on the park and you can also see that he is loving this season. His pen save against Dundee Utd this season was as important as his pen save in the LC semi v Celtic.
  7. Given what was at stake tonight, Sammy's penalty save could be regarded as one of the most important moments of the season, if we go on to win the league or be promoted. Potentially as important as his penalty save in the league cup semi.
  8. I keep noticing Macron strips this season. Like Joma, It's not one of the big name manufacturers. But they have been designing some cracking bespoke strips this season for the teams they supply. PAOK's strips are the most recent I've seen. Whilst I like our strips this season, would love to have seen us in something like these.
  9. Does anyone happen to have a spare ticket? Need one for a mate. Cheers.
  10. I was speaking with both Gordon Scott and Campbell Kennedy a couple of weeks before the launch. As far as I recall, the club were to receive an initial delivery for the launch. Thereafter, the shirts would be delivered in batches of up to 500 with a lead in time of 14days from order. Both were very positive about the dealings with Joma.
  11. Yeah, that annoys me as well. So easy to get right, but the badge has been in 3 different positions depending on the image (preview/presentation/joma marketing). Hopefully those on sale are consistent and positioned properly.
  12. Samson's penalty save in the LC semi final was a massive moment in the cup run. For that, I will be eternally grateful. If it wasn't for that save, I doubt we would have got to the final.
  13. He is entering the final year of his contract so Mallan and his agent hold a strong hand when it comes to the club accepting offers. With regards to personal terms, has Mallan accepted anything? Yeah, he might be being offered 6x his current wage, but his stock has risen a lot in the last 4 months since Barnsley were last in for him, so it's not unreasonable that other better clubs could come in for him. I assume any transfer can't go through until the window opens. When is that? I'm sure he and his agent will be happy to be patient for a few weeks. With it having fallen through in Jan, Barnsley are simply trying to steal a march by getting their offer in early. But surely there is plenty time for other clubs to show an interest.
  14. Isn't that the reason Jens Paeslack left us all those years ago?
  15. As much as we joke, Perhaps Gordon Scott and SMISA could work with Paul Kelly at AS Homes to ensure the history of the club and site is reflected and recognised in the development. It is a really good opportunity and important part of the town's history, never mind the club. Plenty of fitba ground redevelopments have cleverly incorporated the site's history. I like the idea of having cobbled lines through the streets to reflect the pitch markings...similar to the way the route of the Berlin wall is remembered. Middlesbrough's old ground, Ayresome Park, was turned into a housing estate. There are a few subtle sculptures around the estate...a football where the centre spot would have been, a pair of boots I think where the dugout was and jackets hanging on a fence to indicate where the goalposts would have been. Simple, but a wee nod to the history. In terms of street names, Dargo Drive to celebrate the final goal!
  16. To get you in the mood for Fir Park tomorrow, here are some pics from the brilliant 3-2 comeback victory in May 2007.
  17. How about a wee poll to gauge opinion of potential strips? Taken from the Joma 2017 catalogue... HOME 1... HOME 2... AWAY 1... AWAY 2... AWAY 3... AWAY 4... AWAY 5... AWAY 6... AWAY 7...
  18. Wow. In your relentless pursuit of petty point scoring and one-upmanship you've actually played the dying child card, like it's some weird game of top trumps. Even for a sanctimonious bar steward like you, that's pretty low.
  19. Brian Caldwell already explored this and approached a number of airlines. Couldn't get the idea to fly unfortunately.

  21. If this story is correct, JD's suppliers require a lead-in time of 150 days from order...5 months!! That timescale astounds me given that extremely fast turnaround times are key to the modern clothing/fashion industry. Fake strips are on the shelves and available online within hours of ManU/Barca/Madrid strips being revealed or leaked. To have strip launch in May 2017, the designs would have to be agreed and orders submitted to the manufacturer in early December. For a July launch, prior to the season starting, it would be Feb. I'd imagine they would already have to be pretty advanced with the design work to achieve an early launch next year. Also, i'm sure I read somewhere that the quantities ordered are based on the previous sales. That being the case, JD don't do themselves any favours in that dept by launching the strips late and missing summer, as well as the pre season hope and anticipation. Jeso, this season was all but over by the time the away and third kits were 'released'. Personally, I really like the bespoke kits and detailing we've had in recent years. Shame about the service from JD.
  22. Far from being anti social and excuse ridden, St.Mirren have been positive and proactive in trying to address local concerns. Unfortunately, for some it's never good enough. A few years ago the complaints were about general noise levels. in planning terms, the use as a sports ground/recreation was established decades ago. Despite that, a noise assessment was undertaken and St.Mirren erected acoustic fencing. Since then, some local residents again raised the issue of noise, pushing for another noise assessment! Given there is not a case to answer, it would appear complaints have turned to the offensiveness of the noise, which is far more subjective. On another point, if I recall correctly, there were complaints about balls in gardens. St.Mirren, being the good neighbour, and certainly not making excuses (which given the standard of playing ability would be very easy), erected taller fencing to stop balls. The consequence...complaints about balls hitting the fence! The club is proactive in improving standards. Fitzy has also met with local residents a few times in his short tenure. The locals may well be offended by the swearing and frequency of use, and St.Mirren should do more to address it. However, I suspect even if St.Mirren were to take a zero tolerance approach and the swearing was wiped out, another complaint would soon surface to suit their agenda. Having a very public facing role in development and planning for major infrastructure projects, I have first hand experience of the lengths people will go to discredit proposals/developments. Whilst legitimate concerns can be mitigated and resolved, some folk will always find something else to complain about no matter how much you address their issues. At the end of the day they just don't want it, but need to justify their dislike for developments rather than simply state their dislike which holds no weight and appears irrational.
  23. The parks and cricket wicket were there for a few decades at least. We used the red ash and two grass parks for school fitba through mid 90s (before being shifted to Seedhill). We also used them for kickabouts. There was plenty of swearing going on then as well! until st.mirren entered the lease with the Council and invested some money to improve the situation, the parks were becoming waste ground which I'd imagine would also be undesirable to live next to. In fact, they should thank St.Mirren for improving their outlook and house prices ;) I'm sure there's also plenty of swearing from the adjacent tee at Ralston GC. Incidentally, could you imagine the uproar if they lived next to the clubhouse? there have been battles in the streets after some functions in recent years!
  24. Very sad news. I've fond memories of Cubby from when I travelled on the Knox St bus with my Gran & Papa in the 80s and early 90s, as well as from my time as a ball boy. Cubby never gave in to our demands for an increase to the £1 a game wage! Condolences to his son Scott(?) and the family. I managed to dig out an old photo. I remember Cubby organising the Knox St bus through to Edinburgh for a sing song against Dunfermline supporters on live tv for STV's charity telethon! Cubby is standing behind Santaponsasaint.
  25. Punt or keep? I thought this thread was going to be a discussion about our tactics last night.
