  1. Yep, love the early rounds of the Scottish Cup.

Scottish football fans love to moan about everything, but if it wasn't for the BBC where would we be? Listening to Super Scoreboard? No thanks.

One thing I don't like is moving games with a long away trip to a Friday night. I even felt sorry for Morton fans with their away fixture in Inverness moved to a Friday. Basically means no away support and a good Saturday day out gone form the fixture card.

Kemp says half a dozen posts back that Morais and Obika have been missing chance after chance yet here we have someone else watching the same games saying they have hardly had a shot . I personally tend to agree more with Santaponsa, I don't recall either getting too many chances possibly one each a game at most which is awful service to be judging strikers on.

I include Andreu in the places that Mullen could take. Aberdeen (multiple times), Rangers & Livingston games all had excellent chances created that Mullen would have put in the net. Actually, I would have put them in the net - some of these were tap ins really.

Our playing style obviously isn't shoot on sight. We are trying to work the ball in to good positions in the box. It is not true to state big chances haven't been created, we would have several more points on the board had Mullen been on the pitch to put away those chances.

Flynn and Foley is understandable, but Cammy MacPherson is on the bench ahead of McGinn today.
McGinn also hasn’t been picked for the reserve games recently either.
Unless there is another injury then it looks like he is being frozen out.

Cammy can play centre midfield or right back. Is that why he's on bench?

Yes, there is that....but Djorkaeff or one of the others could have also made way.

Danny's a hard worker and gives his all for the team but I'd hardly class him as a proven goal scorer.

5 league goals last season compared to Simeon Jackson who arrived in September and scored six goals before the end of the season.

Hard to see where goals are going to come from this season as both our main strikers (Morias & Obika) have had poor starts and don't seem to offer much up front.

Mullen was signed because he is a goalscorer. 33 goals from 87 starts at Livingston.

Last season we were a shambles other than the final 10 games, Mullen scored 4 important goals in a team set up to play defensively / negatively.

He will score goals if on the park and given good service. After the way he ended last season I was really looking forward to seeing him this year. Very frustrating to see him on the bench while Obika and Morias miss chance after chance.

Can someone point me in the direction of some statistical analysis that proves this theory that "new strikers need time to bed in"?

While I thank the above posters for the examples, I don't think just saying "Billy Mehmet" or "Ally McCoist" quite meets the criteria of a statistical analysis.

"Strikers take time to bed in" just seems such a glib and pointless phrase.

If Mullen is the option then yes. No I'm not happy with what we have up front at the moment either. New stikers and may take time to bed in etc but at the moment not good enough and needs to improve

This part is utter nonsense by the way. I keep seeing it repeated around the forum.

  7. Danny Mullen is a proven goal scorer. He is a better player than Andreu, Obika and Morias combined.

If it wasn't for Mullen's goals at the end of last season we would have been relegated.

Why is he not starting every week?

I think Goodwin is trying a bit hard to put his mark on the team. Get McGinn and Mullen back on the pitch as of next week!

I notice in this interview about Goodwin states that Kyle Magennis is "captain here for now"

Stephen McGinn didn't even make the bench for our last game against Livingston. He was in the stand and said he was fit & ready to go. I understand him not walking back in to the team, but it seemed odd him not even being on the bench.

It doesn't sound like Goodwin is thinking of asking Kyle to hand the captain's armband back tomorrow either.

I will be interested to see the team tomorrow. Is McGinn going to be in Goodwin's plans at all?

Never claimed to be, but thanks for the call-out.

And this was not a "SMISA bad" post, but rather let's get it right and make sure that the organisation and more importantly it's members are adequately protected

    He doesn't understand the difference.
