That and at least another 30 applicants.  Plenty of time .

Now needed in the New Manager thread, it’s like Diana’s funeral in there with the outpourings of grief due to Craig Sibbald (no me neither) joining Livingston.

Can't disagree with that but he also got them relegated or to put it another way , he was in charge when they got relegated -it was his watch. .

He was sacked fairly early on in the campaign so can’t be called on to take all the blame, the appointment of Owen Coyle was a big mistake.

I feel that McIntyre is also yesterday's man , been there done that etc. .

You may well be right but he does have recent Premiership experience and will have good connections I’d imagine.

No doubt he has proven to be a competent manager, Could you stomach Dodds though as his sidekick? Bit like Johnston with Clark...

If Duffy is the only other option then yes I could handle it.

So is that between McIntyre and perhaps Duffy noo..? Jesus wept,

McIntyre would be a decent appointment and is my choice for the role.  As for Duffy no thanks, yesterday’s man.

Continuing with the hypothetical thread from earlier discussion, who would you like to see as the respective assistant if any of the following got the manager's job:-

Paul Lambert, Robbie Neilson, Jim McInyre or David Hopkin ?

Hopkin - Pablo Escobar as assistant (from beyond the grave obviously).

I would like big JG too, a leader, fighter and someone who would command respect in the dressing room etc... it is beginning to look all a bit confusing, the club seem to be over complicating their task by talking to so many potential candidates. Get a short list of three who would take it, and pick one!

Simple enough really.  Run the flag up the pole and see who salutes.

Rae was hardly my favourite, Teale was a case of we will never know if he could have become a decent St Mirren manager given the mess he inherited and the fact he spent most of the January transfer window as a caretaker boss of a club subject to 2 different takeover bids and was promoted to interim boss just in time to be told we were selling Kenny McLean on the final afternoon of the transfer window.

Teale inherited a club that was second bottom and left us at the bottom and relegated, but did have to navigate some pretty choppy waters to be fair.  Doesn’t appear to have had another managerial post since, although it may be that he isn’t that keen on it anymore.

Jack Ross did a great job as our manager and has moved on, no point picking over the carcass to put a spin on it that suits you.  The king is dead and all that.

In true St Mirren fashion the potential candidates are ruling themselves out/eyeing other opportunities before interviews have even begun!

Neilson appears to be ruling himself out indicating in his exploratory chat the budget suggested was too low to be competitive in the prem.

Hopkin wants and is wanted down south, probabl Shrewsbury's next manager.

Lambert really wants another gig in England, but has spoke to Tony.

and Duffy.. yes feckin Duffy has raised the question of what the budget is, again perhaps ru

    ing himself out.

McIntyre and Dodds arent being touted much, so maybe too costly a double act for our board?

that probably means we will end up with the last man standing big Goody? Having taken Alloa to two successive play offs, and got them promoted he is streets ahead in achievement and experience than Ross was when he came in. People saying its too eatly for him are having a giraffe! Ross got the job on the back of being relegated, and it seems to have worked for him!

Hopefully Neilson is ruling himself out.  We don’t need another excuse maker in the Rae mould.  McIntyre is still my choice but would not be unhappy if Goody got the gig, in fact I would be very happy.

And you never miss an opportunity to tell us the sun shines directly out Jack Ross' backside.

In the week's following the Championship win, when the media were asking Jack Ross if it would be a good time for him to move on to bigger and better things Jack Ross was the one banging on about how he had spent months preparing to bring in new players to St Mirren and that he was relishing being in the top league and not wanting to just make up the numbers or fighting to avoid relegation. I think most people hoped that with us being the first team to win a title in the UK this season that we had an advantage in terms of signing targets over teams in or about the relegation play offs and had a bit of momentum going after a great run of results for 14 or 15 months.

Haven't met anyone who has said they would turn down the opportunity and money Jack Ross has been given at Sunderland. Most people I have spoken to have, to varying degrees been annoyed by the way the move was handled - from people half expecting he might be going to Ipswich and who were happy enough that Ipswich had handled the approach properly.

Six weeks after winning the league our manager and assistant have left to go to Sunderland, our player of the year has returned to Celtic, a U20 player has joined the first team squad, we have signed 1 non-league player and signed Paul McGinn and you think Jack would be doing us a favour if he signs our captain, and the cash from also signing our best young player would help his successor put his own stamp on the squad.

If Jack Ross really is SMTID it would be nice if he left us with some of our best players for a return to the top division where we already needed to try and replace Morgan and add more quality.

You need to read my post more carefully.  I didn’t say Ross would be doing us a favour if he signed McGinn to his new club more that he had done us good turn by giving him a new deal thereby ensuring a transfer fee if he did move.

As for the sun shining out of Ross’s backside, when you have endured the likes of your favourites Teale and Rae it is easy to relate to someone who has us winning and playing decent football.

If Jack Ross were to come in for Kyle Magennis, Gavin Reilly, and possible Stephen McGinn then I would question whether Jack has left our squad strength in a better place than what he inherited. He sold McAllister, Mallan and Morgan for reasonable money in the circumstances but if he were to cherry pick our best remaining players at this stage in the close season we are left with guys like Baird, MacKenzie, McShane, Flynn, Hippolyte... who is to say the shape of our squad at the minute would challenge in the Scottish Championship next season nevermind the top division IF we lose Magennis, Reilly, S McGinn as well as Morgan from last year's squad.

You never miss an opportunity to put the boot into Ross.

If McGinn were to go then Jack did us a favour by getting signed up for two more years thereby ensuring a transfer fee if he does move this summer.

Reilly shouldn’t be too difficult to replace and anyway his form shaded in the second half of the season, Magennis a bit more of a challenge.  Still it will allow the new guy to put his own stamp on the squad.

Did I say bankrupt the club? Typical hysterical reaction from you. I forgot your not allowed an opinion?  My idea is say we use the compensation to attract a higher calibre of gaffer by paying a wee bit more?  I don't think this combined with extra cash generated from higher crowds will be a problem.  In fact if they were offering jack better terms then let's give the new management the same? Saints will definitely be looking at increasing what they pay.

The king of cataclysm calling someone else hysterical

Its reality Scott, safc need players, coaches etc, and they just signed a manager from a successful club that has what they need! It aint rocket science, we will see in the coming days and weeks.

One guaranteed way to lose your new fans is to import en masse from your old club, especially when that old club plays at a standard that some Sunderland fans probably think is on a par with ‘pub football’.  I can see Jack wanting Magennis but not many other than him.  If McGinn were to go then Jack has done well for us in getting Stephen signed up for two more years therefore a decent transfer fee.:)

    Seriously LPM?

I cant see Ross signing anyone from St Mirren. Theres no-one at Paisley than what is already available at the Academy.

Sunderland just let Tom Breadling go to Dunfermline. Hes better than Davis.

Don’t know about the last sentence but otherwise you are probably correct.   I think the Lord is getting carried away with apocalyptic thoughts.

Hmmmm. If Killie pick up from where they left off last season they will be incredibly difficult to beat.  I assume we’ll be away to them too.

We will be away to Killie as the second seed always plays away to the top seed.
