There was enough about Cornell to see that there is a goalie there and a better one that Samson, but he has to adapt to the way we play and sharpen up. The back 4 was a mess not surprising as Kelly was inexperienced and McGregor back from a 2 year lay off. Then further disruption with Vanzy going of and Naisey coming on, That back 5 had never played together and it showed. Morton looked fitter and were clearly ahead of us in match sharpness and wanted it more.

McGinn was hot and cold, Gowser played ok, Teale was the best player on the pitch (not Imrie). Thompson was out of sorts, Harkins clearly was not on the same wavelength as the rest of team and made Carey look like Usain Bolt. I have to admit I was a doubter when he signed and today's showing did not make me change my mind. Flashes of brilliance yes then no pace to get the play moving on.

Reily looked excellent and made a real difference when he came on,

On Kellly I would say the boy stuck to his task and he will not play against someone with Imrie's pace every week. Expect him to learn very quickly, but he should not be asked to have to step up to being first pick leftback at this stage of his career

Steven Thompson is the only player who is a recognised forward. We have no other natural forwards! We have no left back and I would say at this point this is the weakest squad we have ever had going into an spl season. The gk was poor today and I think we could use a proven gk . Left back was v poor today. Dougie Imrie was impressive against him. I know we will sign players but its going to need to happen soon

As regards the budget, you're as bad at basic arithmetic as you are at whining like a bitch.

We've terminated the contracts of several players a year early. That would not have been cheap. As said above, it's also likely that McGowan is on more money this year and so to expect the same number in as we let go is just the inane mutterings of a thick ****.

We've lost first choices Samson, Goncalves, Newton & Dummett plus squad players Carey, Guy, Parkin & Imrie.

Samson has been replaced so that is that box ticked.

Harkins could be said to be the replacement for Carey & Imrie. Brady may also get a chance.

McGregor is maybe the replacement for Newton with possibly Robertson getting a chance.

Dummett's possible replacements are Kelly & Yaqub (maybe Barron as well).

However, there is nobody on the staff who comes near to Goncalves and Parkin was ideal cover for Thompson.

If Lennon can pull something out the bag to replace Goncalves then the squad will be fine. I suspect he will be working on a loan deal there.

But, as I keep saying, the downfall will still be the tactics. If we keep fannying about at the back - and we will - will are going to struggle.

Who's to say the current squad won't finish top 6. No one knows whats going to happen as we are still 2 weeks away from a ball being kicked in anger. Any squad cannot be judged 2 weeks BEFORE a season starts ffs ! Lets reserve judgement until we have played each team at least once by which time the squad will have been finalized and will have started to bed down. The current squad have good players but no depth. In winter away at tannadice with thommo injured is Reilly the main man to lead the line. I'm willing to bet that as I spoke to an ex employee the Jd kit we buy is the same the players wear. Also the same shit eg puma happen to be one of the worlds top technical sportswear brands . An iconic brand is puma . So I'm happy to say that jd is a bog standard service with quite poor gear. Diadora are not making the kit . Their is no moisture control with the jd efforts either which lets it down. I think we're saints to get an Adidas or an umbro then you would see a tremendous spike in sales. BTW when you add players like Guy, Parkin, Imrie, Carey and Adam with their combined first team starts of about 3 last season you make yourself look like a tit. Who Reilly?

SG and Danny Lennon have both said in the local PDE that we will be going more with young players coming through this season more than previous seasons. That's not to say we wont bring someone in , my view. Also they went on Gowser signing was like getting a new player and I'm sure he will be on more money. DMc and Baron are like having new players added to the pool along with Harkins.

If there are no new players arrive I see this as as a bottom 2 fight for sure that we being one of the 2.

Barron couldn't get into lennons team last year and why is that? He can't pass a ball ten feet that's how. He is a hustler. And a harrier no finesse at all. He should have been punted . All other teams out with hearts and Patrick look pretty strong but us we have one striker? Enough said
