Tell Danny Lennon to stop saying we want top six then. In fact tell Inverness , Ross county, Motherwell, st.johnstone to all chuck it your small clubs with small fan bases so you shouldn't be in the top six!!! Each of these teams have made the top six. Do they have bigger supports? I think that currently the team has stalled and the current management need to use January to wheel and deal and if not then we won't do much. If we don't do much will the board keep the same manager? In fact it could be they don't sanction players coming anyhow! Regardless of this we need to move up we need to be ambitious and not settle for being a wee team from Paisley who should be happy just to survive

It would be all too easy to hark back to the halcyon days when we were were regularly in the mix at the top end; in cup semi finals; and in Europe... and maybe for old farts like me that is still in the back of the mind. Especially moreso given that Killie were rotting in division two at the time and Hearts were the perennial yo-yo club between spl and first division.
However... to do so would also be to look at Dumbarton, Clydebank et al as top clubs!
Pozbaird summed it up well and in a much more recent context for me... Falkirk; Hamilton; Dunfermline; The Rangers... all clubs that have fallen out of the SPL/SPFL in our time as a top flight club.
"We might get into the top six at times" you say... well if you agree with that then why criticise fans for having aspirations? ICT; Ross County; St Johnstone; Motherwell... ... we are not a smaller or less successful club than any of these... so why can we match their poor runs... but never seem to go on the same kind of positive runs as them?
Is it wrong to ask? To challenge ourselves? To want better?

Why is that it? Dunfermline were an established SPL club and are now skint and below us. Hearts are fcuked and below us. The Rangers are fcuked and are below us. Falkirk and Hamilton quietly slipped away while we retained SPL status and won a cup. For a good while under Paw Broon and Fenlon, we looked better than both Aberdeen and Hibs. Our current squad looks better than Ross County, Partick, Kilmarnock and doesn't look too shabby when compared to St Johnstone's.
Point being - yes we are a small club, but are in a better place than many. I see no reason why we shouldn't be a club that can mix it with the likes of Motherwell and Dundee United aiming for the 'best of the rest', rather than accepting 'our fate' of being perennial relegation dogfighters 'lucky to be here' and displaying an attitude that we can never aspire to, or reach, a higher level.
Looks like McInnes and Butcher are stamping their mark on previously poor sides, maybe this is where our problem lies.

Buddie I changed my post. You know what I was wrong there I think like you we do have good players we have thommo, McGowan, McLean, McGinn , Kello, etc and they can do better. Maybe it's the way they're being set up?

I happen to believe that the current squad is good enough to be challenging for a top six finish.

In all honesty were going nowhere. We won't go down but we won't be anywhere near top six. Danny doesn't seem capable of assembling a squad that can win more than they lose. We're now 9th and I can see a wee battle with killie to get 8th as being the best we can hope for. The worst being a playoff which I think we will avoid. Not too much to get enthused about a honking performance today that sees us now have one win in six. The team is not good enough but we will have folk on here who say I'm out of order. When you see McGinn limp of only to be replaced by Reilly you kinda know it's not going to end well. Anyhow I think that despite a good wee spell in November when we beat some teams everyone beats it's been pretty rubbish. Away defeats at pittodrie , fir park and now Kilmarnock are bad but failing to beat hibs, ict and a dreadful hearts means the top six is not a possibility. To be top six you need to win home games. It's a shame were struggling cos it did look better for a while but with celtic at home then away days to Perth and Edinburgh respectively It's going to be tough

Really tough couple of games coming up now. Ra Sellick at home then Sainteee away, who have a fantastic record and McDiarmid, while we are terrible away.
Would hate to see us get dragged back down to County and Thistles position but it's not looking unlikely sadly.
Every time we seem ready to kick on and challenge the heady heights of mid table we mess up. Been the story of Danny's 4 seasons in charge actually.

He is only 32 he will play on in the sitting midfield role for another five years easy. He is a fit lad who I believe is missed when he is not in the team. Ok he will need to cut out silliness but I mean overall he's been a fantastic signing

As I keep saying, we have a top 6 squad of players but a useless manager.
When Danny Lennon arrived we had just finished in 10th position.
After almost 4 years in charge we currently sit in 8th position with every club in the bottom 6 moving up 2 spots as a result of the meltdowns of Rangers & Hearts.
In summary, we have made no progress in the league whatsoever after nearly 4 years of Lennon.
We need to get rid of him & Tommy Craig. The sooner the better. They really doesn't know what they are doing.

Shocking decision making! Cost us the game. Sorry DL, but same as at Motherwell a couple of weeks back and many other games in the past, your inability to spot weaknesses or have a plan b, or make changes (when there are simple options on the bench) has cost us a lot of points this season!
    Really pissed off with it.
DL has brought in good players mad good footy but his own lack of plan b & tactical nonsense is holding us back!

Iv'e been a fan for over 35years and you could count in the 1 hand the amount
of years we've been better than inconsistent, but there's been plenty of years
when we've been consistent, "consistently shite", for a team that has one of the
lowest home crowds and budgets, and a board that wont spend a penny more
than comes into the club i think sitting 8th in the league and a national cup in the
trophy cabinet is pretty good going, some might say i lack ambition but i would say
i'm just realistic,,, as for you, feck knows how you ever made it through the 90s.....

This will really go against the grain, I wasn't there today but the games I have went to this season McGowan hasn't exactly played well. Often overshadowed by others in the team. For being a linchpin, he hasn't exactly ever been the reason for us winning this season from what I've seen.
    He's underperformed in my view.

The fans can win this. Simply don't buy this cheap shit that jd toss out for loads of run of the mill clubs down south. All they do is stick a different badge on it. Tell the board we want change and through the fans council we can force it. If nobody can get what they want and if the stuff is cheap anyhow we need change. Adidas from the catalogue would sell like hotcakes. Can you imagine how good the training gear would be also. It's time we voted for change here and if enough of us complain they will need to listen. Or maybe not maybe they will just take a few quid from jd and say get lost. Whatever happens jd are crap the strips are crap and not being able to buy a shirt on match day well its laughable

I was fortunate to be allowed to design four complete kits and have input into another two, but for the life of me, a deal where no kits are sold in the club's own stadium shop is something I just cannot agree with, and while I understand the desire of JD Sports to have Saints fans' footfall in their stores - I don't like the deal, while remaining grateful to have been involved. Initially I was sold on the idea of having a St Mirren presence in popular malls, but in my experience, our 'presence' in their stores (after an initial splash at launch) has merely been to see a few rag tag selections of our kits hanging amongst the ubiquitous Real Madrid, Man United, and Chelsea shirts.
As a supporter, I'd now be happier to see us play in a black and white version of an Adidas Stoke City, Sunderland, or West Brom kit, and have AWP handle everything. If that view makes me unpopular with a couple of people, I'll need to live with that.

The shirt thing is a joke. What other club shop doesn't sell the teams strip on a match day? It's absolutely mental and of anyone say the quality is anywhere near a Puma or Adidas then they need to wake up. The strips are pretty poor and I am afraid the trouble people have buying one says lets do what Aberdeen or hearts do and take a strip that's in the Adidas catalogue. It will sell better too as brands are attractive.
