Is he not from Gourock originally?  So hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding  and (admittedly very cold) humidity will feel like home from home too.   Can see the logic of this move.

At the same time Obika does score a number of goals.  We badly lack goals all over the park.  A striker capable of 10 league goals alongside Obika, plus a couple of midfielders that could score 5 we'd be top six.

    I'd give them all credit.

Rightly, driven by our manager Jim Goodwin, they have come up with the goods and apparently met his requests. As it should be.

I was one of the most vocal defenders and supporters of Gus when he was here before.

Long after others had turned, I was still pointing out the positives.

I was happy upon his return.
He has a wealth of knowledge, experience and ability.

My one concern was his role.

With a manager covering team affairs and a general manager already in situ, what was his role?

TBH, had they simply said it will enhance our overall management and direction, I'd have settled for something that vague.

In many employment situations, there are overlaps of duties which can be dealt with on an individual basis.

Most of the fall out has come, I believe, from the statement by GLS that appointing Gus would afford continuity, and linking it in particular to recruitment.

My understanding, right or wrong, was that if we were without manager, recruitment would continue uninterrupted due to our newly created position.

Realistically, that could never work 100%.

Would Jim even have accepted the job if told his role was to coach the players somebody else felt we needed.

Yes... Some clubs operate that model. My question was a specific one.

I believe we have an excellent young manager who will go on to much higher things.

I believe our structure is in place to support him.

I believe that structure is flexible and roles are not rigid.

I believe that is for the best.

Our pre season recruitment was late. Our chairman acknowledged that much, even if he had given the impression, intentionally or not, that the new director of football would be dealing with it in the interim.

We are getting there and the overall improvements in recruitment and play are evident for all to see.

How much is down to any one particular person? No idea. Don't care. We are a team. We cover for one another.

    Highly recommended.

Five teams in our league have averaged less than a goal a game so far this season.  Only two of the teams in all the other Scottish leagues are in this category.  Shows how difficult it is to find a regular goalscorer at this level for teams like us.

Not in the squad today and a bench full young players.  You would have to think he's leaving.

I am informed by a very reliable source that the following players are on the list of Jim Goodwin's January targets and I believe that at least 2 of the players will 100% be signing for St Mirren in January.
    Yaw Osei (Forward)
    Evan Markogiannakis (Goalkeeper)
    Michael Nottingham (Defender)
    Léger Djimrangar (Midfielder)

I read this thread 20 mins ago and I was going to reply then but alas I needed a poo.

Touching cloth I made my way to the bathroom, pondering our teams chances.  Sitting on the pan, defecation now in "full slip" I started to give this matter real thought.  With my sphincter loosened and the pleasant enlightment occuring my mind was cast over the strength and depth we have in each area of the squad.  With the pan now full I had already pondered my contentment in the goal keeping dept and I was through the full backs and centre halves also.  Wiping away I thought in detail about the midfield, the options, the dynamic (and how Sam Foley rhymes with big Toley).  All was going well until I stared into the defecate and paper filled pan, tugging lightly on the flush as I thought of the striking options and our apparent weakness in attack.
Backside suitably wiped, hands washed (of course, Im not from Greenock), pantaloons and trousers back in place I shuffled my way back to the PC to join this pleasant conversation.

Anyway, the squad appears decent but after a terrific result vs Aberdeen, the team have been as rotten as the smell  in my cludgie for the next 5 minutes.  Personally I hope to see a lot more of Danny Mullen.

As usual we are being dissapointed, it really is the norm!

For most of last season we were so dire in defence that we were well beaten before the half time whistle.
Three league games into this season, all of them fixtures against big clubs, and our defence still hasn't conceded a goal before half time.
We are definitely heading in the right direction under Jim Goodwin.

Two big decisions in the game went against us today. We should have had a penalty first half and there should have been a free kick for us before Waters fouled Defoe for Rangers goal.

Another day one or both of them goes for us and we get something from the game.

For teams like us to get anything from games against the Old Firm we need to be well organised and have a bit of luck. Today we were organised, we just didn’t have that bit of luck.

I used to live 100 yards from St Albans City's ground and was at the FA Cup game against Carlisle on the video where he scored 2 .  Both belters and the video really doesn't do justice to how hard a hit the  goal from distance looked in person.  To be fair Danny Grainger was left back for the opposition 😊.  IIRC Peterborough bought him just after that.  Fee was rumoured to be upwards of £200K.
Although the standard is poor St Albans are top half National League South he was way above that standard.  Everything said about him in this thread I recognise.  Fast, an eye for goal, great at bringing others into play, works hard and immensely strong.  Possibly his lack of height weighed against him at Peterborough I don't know, but less of problem in  Scotland.  He is certainly an upgrade on Hasselbaink from what I saw.
