Was happy enough with today's performance, thought we started brightly in the first 15 minutes or so and did well to create some chances and half chances. After that Killie's midfield got a grip on the game and Ibrahim ran the show for the next 20 minutes or so and no one seemed to get near him never mind tackle the guy! But for all their dominance of possession I don't remember Killie forcing Cornell into a meaningful save in the first half or any particularly near misses. Our keeper and defence whilst not perfect were doing a reasonable job and McGregor hung in there at right back after having his hands full with Ibrahim early on. As half time approached we were beginning to get back into the game and were a bit more direct and effective than Killie at threatening the goals. Thompson looked interested today but a lot of our best players had quiet first halves (McGowan, Teale, McLean), Newton had one or two surging runs from midfield and Harkins also looked eager to impress and capable of creating something out of nothing with his quick feet. At half time there was a feeling that with neither side carving out many chances we could be heading for a rare 0-0 between the sides, unless the defences made errors!
We started the second half brighter again and McGowan was getting on the ball more and involving the rest of our midfield who had gradually been by-passed as the 1st half wore on. We created a few chances but were hit on the counter attack and Killie scored with what was perhaps their first shot on target in the game. We laboured to hit back quickly and had a few more half chances to equalise and Killie had a few efforts before Boyd was sent off for punching Goodwin after they tangled going for a loose ball. The pair had squared up a couple of times in the first half and on one occasion then Boyd had aimed a kick at Goody. The ordering off changed the game as McGowan,Teale and Harkins were now all seeing plenty of the ball and beginning to create chances for themselves and Thompson. Killie in addition to losing Boyd to his red card also began replacing their goal threats (Heffernan, Ibrahim and Nicolson) and seemed to content to let St Mirren have possession but try and deny them space.
St Mirren kept plugging away to the final whistle, Harkins took his goal well, Thompson was unlucky not to score, Samson made a few good saves, McGowan came close a few times, as did Harkins, and McAusland almost got on the end of a low cross in the 6 yard box near the end. Despite a few shocking crosses (one of which went out the stadium) Grainger had a decent game and it was good to see McGregor come through 90 minutes and look more solid as the game went on. While some Killie fans reckon we would never have scored if Boyd hadn't been sent off I thought the signs were there at the start of the second half that McGowan, Teale, Harkins and McLean were all seeing more of the ball and creating chances and that Killie for all their dominance rarely troubled our defence before or after Boyd's goal. Disappointed not to take all 3 points but I thought most of the players played pretty well today and after lots of panic over the close season I thought we lookeda similar strength to the squad from the last 2 seasons with the exception that our bench was much less experienced (but we had decent options with McGinn and Reilly there).

Thoroughly enjoyed today's game! Second half in particular! Samson kept them in the game with a few amazing saves (not that we should be surprised)... Teale had a fantastic game, Cornell was good and Thommo looked back to his usual self! We were very unlucky not to win but a points a point!

I am one who will back Danny til the cows come home but yes I agree that something is not adding up and we desperately need players.
However, I am sick of hearing about how DL has shown a lack of respect to the players who have left -
Parkin - okay as a back up but was on too high a wage to just occasionally score a goal.
Guy - showed a very poor attitude and no respect - cheerio.
Imrie - don't get me started - terrible attitude- no one is bigger than the club and Dougie had a very high opinion of himself.
Carey - popped up with the goods occasionally but not enough, rumour had it he also had a very poor attitude similar to Imrie.
Samson didn't want to stay and the rest were loan signings who had to return to their parent clubs.
Now I know I'm not alone in not wanting players at our club who have a terrible attitude and believe they're better and bigger than the club.
Out of all the players who left - how many were the first names on the teamsheet?? Samson, Goncalves, Dummett and Newton - the others would be warming the bench week in week out.
Hearing and seeing people say how they would play Imrie every week is the most hypocritical comment I've ever heard. Imrie was slaughtered from the off at our club and anyone who says differently is lying.
How people can say DL has shown disrespect to the above players is ridiculous - in any profession, if you show a poor attitude at work and to your manager you will be told to leave. DL is the manager of those players and therefore demands certain standards. Yes, as supporters we too demand certain standards from our players and management team but that's what happens when you support a wonderful team like ours - we pay to go on this rollercoaster with no control over the ride.
Lee Mair - something is certainly not adding up with him, as nice a man he is, we have seen time and time again mistakes being made which were avoidable and he was told he would not feature this season. I respect him for making the decision to stay and fight for a place in the team but I would much rather see Cheesy, Jim or McGregor starting ahead of him.
I was not at yesterdays game, however was listening to the un-biased commentary on Open All Mics. I don't like to make comments on players and the game when I was not there but listening to the commentators on the radio it was hard to hear them speak so negatively about the team I support through thick and thin.
I saw a very interesting tweet from Spencer Downey (the Newcastle agent) which read "all this twitter talk is not making my job any easier, attract don't detract #keepthefaith" - this says it all.

Still on my holidays so wasn't there yesterday. Listened in online and was initially encouraged by what I heard then left utterly deflated by the second half collapse.
Talk of sacking the manager after 1 game is ludicrous in my opinion. We had a horror start yesterday but I think it's a bit disrespectful to the management team to talk of wholesale changes after just 90 minutes.
I am as concerned as anyone as to the result, and the current imbalance in the squad but there is still 4 weeks to go until the window closes and with 2 or 3 signings in the correct areas this team has real potential IMO.
