  1. Bajan - how can you say that?! The Star Spangled Banner is a pish anthem - it's too hard for the ordinary punter to sing with the range of notes involved, and the tune - it rips off "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" near the end of it! Mind you, "America the Beautiful" is even worse, ripping off GSTQ...
  2. Bill - Totally agree on how much of a dirge GSTQ is. As I recall Phil Jupitus put it into Room 101 for exactly that reason Regarding the Russian anthem. I believe that after the USSR split up, they decided to have a new anthem in place for Russia, but no-one ever took to it. So they decided to revert back to the Soviet anthem but with revised words. That's what they did in Germany - from your point of view Bill it prolly ain't a new anthem they've changed the words from "Deutchland Deutchland uber alles..." to stuff like "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" - translated to something along the lines of "Unity and Rights and Freedom" - that's all I meant by new words And don't worry Bill - I just nicked the names of the anthems off a website - they may/may not be correct. On the Subject of FoS - I put it at #1 just because I'm Scottish and it means more to me than any other anthem, not because it's the best tune that COULD be on - it certainly ain't that! "A Man's A Man for Aw' That" or something along those lines would be far better...failing that, "Scots Wa Hae" would sound good at the fitba....
  3. 1) - Flower of Scotland 2) - New Russian National Anthem - (New words to the Soviet National Anthem - Gimn Sovetskogo Soyuza) 3) - Inno Di Mameli (Italy) 4) - Deutschlandlied (Germany - new words) 5) - Himno Nacional Do Brasil (Brazil) Land Of Hope & Glory would be there as well, but for the fact that I consider it to be just a hymn and not an anthem as such... ;)
  4. Actually Bongo, the shortest track on it (The WWF Signature on Disc 1) lasts 8 seconds... ;)
  5. Bongo, how can you equate Sandcastles to Sniff buying condoms? At least sandcastles get wet after a while...
  6. If you mean as in know 3 chords, then aye there are
  7. For exactly the same reason that you can't stop posting in threads I post in...
  8. As for the best ones - imho (not that I ever had good taste in music)... 5) - Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry (Sorry guys - it's never Xmas season until I hear this once!) 4) - John & Yoko - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) 3) - Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas 2) - Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody 1) - The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York ;)
  9. Aint got a top 5 but the worst is Cliff Richard's "The Millennium Prayer" which completely spoils two things in the most tacky way you can possibly get. That 3 million people bought that to get it to #1 just before Christmas that year... And that Snowman theme (Walking in the Air is it?) drives be bonkers too...
  10. For a pre-match swally, I'd have to go with, in reverse order of the ones I've been in... 5) - Hole In The Wa' - plenty of Saints fans, but always get mobbed and is a child born out of wedlock to get served in. 4) - Carnegies - Typically gets a good few Saints fans in, not as busy and hence easier to get served in than the HITW, but could be a bit too dark and youth orientated for some people. 3) - The Bull Inn - Good old traditional pub - Saints fans in numbers in here every week, proper old town feel to things. 2) - The Wee Barrel - In Love St, so always gets loads of people in. Can be very busy but more relaxed atmosphere compared to the other pubs. 1) - Paddy's - The most chilled out pub in Paisley, just next to the Bull and is a little more youth orientated but not so much as to make it inaccessible for all. Great atomsphere in the place - ye canny beat it!
  11. While I don't agree that perhaps countless pics of rather nubile young ladies (or not if St.Sid & Sniff have their way!) is the most productive use for a board - it is better than setting up one specifically to appease the wind-up merchants of both St.Mirren & the other visiting supports, and more importantly - I am rather fecked off that the Top 5's board has just disappeared into thin air for it's creation. There were a lot of funny things on that guys...seems rather unnecessary if you ask me...
  12. I did mention the defence being weaker Saint Hits The Net - however, I remain convinced that if we give the young boys a chance, they can do well for us. As for TH - I concede that there is only a small gap between pessimism and realism, but really, any manager is in a no-win situation with post-match comments. If he says it was a terrible performance against opposition that we should have whipped, he loses out on both taking the opposition too lightly and makes it obvious that he's at fault, and that some players are at fault as well. If he gives the excuse of individual errors, it puts pressure on those individuals and himself to try and stamp them out. If he says that we are good enough to win the league and that we are just going through a bad patch, he will be accused of sticking his head in the sand. Has enyone else here seen "Mike Basset: England Manager"? I'm reminded of the Rudyard Kipling "If" poem to be honest with you: Could'nt have said it better myself!
  13. We should have been murdering sides like Clyde, Arbroath Ross County and Partick?! WTF?! No - we should have expected hard games against all those sides and that's exactly what we got. Tie in the "lose a late goal" problem then it's clear to see where we were going to go. Last season we had a far weaker squad in the forward line. Cameron and Mendes this season - last season it was McGarry and Quitongo. I don't really need to say much more than that. Sure, the defence is struggling to hell and is prolly a bit weaker as losing Trig, Nico and even big Sky (who practically played every competitive minute last season) was going to harm us as Buddy has said. However, we've brought in Robb and Broadfoot, and Lowing has made the step up as well. I'd say those 3 players if given time, can and will do a job for us, along with McGowan and Denham whenever he's fit. Losing Fellner was a blow, but prolly not a fatal one. Sure, TH has to shoulder the blame for the defensive selection and organisation on Saturday - I cannot possibly say against that, but I'd have to wait and see what happens in a few more games (end of the first quarter as Buddy has said?) before leaping into any kind of big decision like this. Everyone now admits to the problems we have, that have been obvious for a few games now - give TH a few more games to solve it. If he can't, then alright, but I'm sure that's what the board are going to do...all of us saying he must be sacked by Saturday is a little silly imho, and only puts more pressue on TH to succeed...and don't give me the bs line of "I'm sure comments on here won't affect him" - I'll be listening for what's being sung/shouted on Saturday and every week after that...
  14. The players don't give a f*ck then Dare? The same players that came back from going behind 3 times even last Tuesday night and who only lost another 2 goals in the last few minutes of the game - the same players who worked like hell to try and get a last-gasp winner after losing a 2 goal lead - the same players who went back to 1-1 and down to 10 men and then went on to win 3-1 against Alloa, and the same players who went a goal down against Ross County in Dingwall, to come back with an equaliser, and win it on a penalty shootout without a single miss! What more do you want from these guys for pity's sake?! I don't think the spirit of the players can even come into question - on Saturday we had a defensive horror show, and after going 3-0 down after 25 mins, there's no team (certainly not in this league anyway) that could come back, of course the players got despondant after that, but my God any side would! The problems are purely the defensive and midfield selection and organisation - yes Hendrie has to shoulder some of the blame for that, but as Buddy has said - any 3 defenders we could have chosen would have been ripped apart in the game as it turned out. On Saint Hits the Net's quote above - I didn't say it would or wouldn't be enough - all I am saying is if the same two-faced people who give sh*t to Hendrie now, who also gave the team all the plaudits in the world after Dingwall and Clyde change what they're saying again, then I'll be f*cked off as hell - lay in the beds you've made is all I'm saying! As far as I'm concerned - it's up to the people who want Hendrie now out to prove that sacking him is definitely the answer to our problems to prove as such not for me to say otherwise simply because there's more people who think he should be sacked than otherwise, and sorry - I'm not entirely convinced that it is the answer even with the arguments about the tactics, and team selection. Sure, Tom Hendrie makes a lot of mistakes - who doesn't? Do me a favour and put me in the same boat as Buddy - TH is obviously being given time by the board to change things round, his attitude and methods of motivation etc - if you lot aren't prepared to do the same, and go with what the board say (they'll have all the financial knowledge at their disposal as opposed to the rumour and conjecture on this or any forum), then really I'm seeing what I thought I'd never see - the very people who told us all to stick with it in the darkest days of last season (even that seems worse than THIS scenario - after all, being 5 frickin' league games in?!) lose the concept of Keeping The Faith...
  15. Fine Div - if you and your League of Gentlemen genuinely think it's that desperate then on you go, I ain't stopping you. But see if we get a win at Cappielow and the same people who gave all the plaudits to the team in the world last Saturday, and all the abuse to Hendrie this week, start changing their minds yet again, you know what the score will be - I will be one very pissed off SMFC fan, at my fellow fans for being as fickle as a the Scottish Weather...
  16. Saintsrock - that is ancient history. But last week certainly isn't! And I ask those who are utterly convinced of Hendrie leaving being the asnwer one question - can you be sure, absolutely 100% certain that a new manager is a guaranteed solution to our problems? There is a huge risk attached with this move, even if we can take it. We may end up only papering over the huge cracks down the side. Be honest - how long will it take before a new manager gets the same sort of treatment if instantaneous improvement is not attained? This move, if taken is a massive MASSIVE gamble. What happens if no improvment is made? Are we gonnae clear out the whole team - the whole team that but a short week ago, people were hailing as a side capable of winning the league?! It has NEVER been as black, nor as white in my opinion. As utterly idiotic as the idea might sound to you all - Hendrie has to be given time before any decision is taken. We are 5 games into a league campaign - a league campaign which we never realisitcally had a chance of winning - people rubbished me for saying we needed to consolidate and we'd be aiming for a top 3 slot, now seemingly the term "consolidation" is all the rage?! I'm sorry, but not even 9 goals in two games change things so rapidly. Sure there's a sh*tload of work to do, on and off the park - but my god we can't afford to think that solivng the face in charge of the derssing room is the panacea solution. And if you lot think it is that changing the manager will solve every problem, then I really do fear for the whole situation...
  17. Div, how many ANTI-HENDRIE ones are there? He can start as many as he wants for all I care. Frankly this place has gone NUTS in the last few hours...you'll be getting out the goddamn pitchforks next I swear to God...
