Chile fully opened up and ended restrictions with 30% of the population vaccinated once. This is why cases spiked rapidly.
The vaccine will not end serious illness and death but it will absolutely reduce it to levels that are completely negligible, particularly among vulnerable groups whose chances of dying of covid increased exponentially.
