  1. People writing Grieve off before he's hardly kicked a ball for us because he came from New Zealand is embarrasing. We've had strikers in the last few years that have recently played in the EPL who've turned out to be carthorses so why don't we wait till he's played a few games before writing him off

    That’s a very good point .
Goody seems to have intimated that some of the current squad Hopefully Erwin & Main among them) will be ushered toward the exit door this window, why not get these young ‘uns on the bench and give them some game time ?

Unfortunately I think it would have happened by now if they were going to be moved on. Also you can add Dennis to that list absolutely bowfing

did he ever win anything with Motherwell? at least with us he won a Div 1 and Challenge Cup double. Plus won our hearts in the Great Escape victory at Fir Park.

He also played a big rolein saving us from relegation to League 1 under JR and then a role in winning the title the next year(I believe) I think he deserves this and fair play to him

    Hi Guys,

    Ipswich Town fan here.

We have been linked with signing Vaclav Hladky with some reports stating he will be signing as soon as today.

Just wondering what the catch is with him? He seems to have been highly rated when playing for St Mirren and linked with Rangers and also some other clubs in Europe at the time. Is there any reason why he ended up at Salford City in League 2?

    Good luck for next season

    Cheers

The best keeper i've seen for Saints and we have generally done quite well for keepers over the years i've been a supporter

Priority is getting in wide players with genuine pace, as other than Dunne we're woefully short in pace.

We've got plenty competition in midfield IMO.

My comment about Magennis was tongue in cheek. I wouldn't have him back either.

    Pretty  sure Tanser is quick

I wonder if Aberdeen will offer some cash plus M.Kennedy, Goodwin tried to sign him before he went to Aberdeen. . (Edit, forget this idea just googled and see he played most games last year doubt they’d want rid)

Even if they did I'd tell themto ram it

i'd rather we were a building club and not a put out to pasture sanctuary

This is true but for me he still looks fit and up for it. Also think playing/training with Burke would be a big positive in the developement of Jay Henderson and Lewis Jamieson if he stays. I don't really understand the big push to bring Naismith back

  8. I would just like to thank Ronnie and Shull for reminding me why I stopped coming on this forum. Supporters of the club the player is leaving are never a good source of a players ability. I was told by a Motherwell fan that Tait was past it and was a crap signing and that hasn't been true at all, I believe the RossCounty fans said the same about Fraser and he's been solid as well and i'm sure there's a lot more than that

  9. Writing players off after less than a week training isn't going to help these guyts be a success. I'd rather sign young hungry guys like this than the same old has beens looking for another meal ticket. Stubbs also said he hoped to get some in before we went to Spain but would have to be patient on the more important higher profile signings!!!

Obviously a hugely important transfer window coming up for the club. With us losing our best player and moving up a division I’m sure we agree that there needs to be a lot of inward activity should we want to be competitive in the premier league. But who in our current squad should we keep?

Samson - Keep. One of my players of the year. The paisley panther, the ginger ninja, the legend that is Craig Samson. Expect and hope he will continue as first choice next year.

Ross Stewart (GK) - Punt. I think we need a new goalie in the summer. Someone with experience who’s capable of pushing Sammy for the number 1 jersey. Young Ross is clearly nowhere near the first team so unless he wants to stay on as third choice he should be punted.

Gary Irvine - Punt. Forgot he was still here until the other night. After that performance it’s no wonder he struggles to get on the bench most weeks.

Liam Smith - Keep. Obviously won’t be our decision, but I’ve been really impressed with Liam this year. Listening to Hearts fans they seem keen to have him back as right back has apparently been a bit of an issue for them. However we should be certainly asking them if we could either extend the loan or sign him on a permanent basis.

Harry Davis - Keep. No doubt about that. Only issue with Harry is that he’s had several bad injuries over the last few years. If he can keep himself fit I’ve no doubt he’ll be a solid performer at Premier League level.

Gary McKenzie - Keep - Similar to Harry in many ways. Clearly he is good enough for the Premiership, the question mark is over his fitness.

Jack Baird - Keep. Given the injury problems of our two first choice centre halves Jack has played a lot of football this year. He’s been excellent, that performance at Dunfermline where he scored the winner and made several game saving blocks will live long in the memory. Suspect he will play a big part next year too.

Massimo Donati - Punt. He looked all of his 37 years against Falkirk, no way he could cope in the Premier League. Not sure if he will be kept on in a coaching capacity but he’s certainly got nothing to offer us in playing terms.

Adam Eckersley - Punt. Tough one but Adam looks like his legs have went. Often felt that full back is a young mans position with the amount of running that’s required. Adam just can’t get up and down the line effectively and this will be even more exposed at Premier League level. He’s 33 this year so I think his time with us up.

Stelios - Punt. Easy one. Not sure if Stelios is even a Championship player, he’s certainly not a Premier League one. His performance against Aberdeen was a horror show. Was at fault for a goal against Falkirk. Expect he will sign for Dumbarton or Ayr.

Ian McShane - Punt. He’s struggling to get in the team in the Championship. Flynn has been a significant upgrade and I don’t think McShane is Premier League standard.

Ryan Flynn - Keep. Think he’s been good since he came. Plenty of experience at a good level. Expect he will be a big player for us next year.

Stephen McGinn - Keep. Not entirely convinced McGinn is up to it at Premier League level. He was terrible against Thistle and Aberdeen and even last week at Tannadice he struggled badly. I can’t see him being a regular starter but I do think there’s a place for him in the squad.

Mark Hill - Punt. Looked out of shape against Falkirk. And rubbish.

Cammy Smith - Keep. Cammy clearly has a bit of quality about him. He’s one of a very few players we have who I think will make the step up to the Premier League seamlessly and be a regular starter next year.

Lewis Morgan - Keep. We should be going to Celtic with the begging bowl asking if we can extend his loan for another season. Or till January at least. That would be signing of the summer if we pulled that off. Doubt we will, but we can but dream.

Kyle Magennis - Keep. Kyle’s obviously completely unproven at a level higher than The Championship, but he’s certainly earned the chance to go there with us. As with many of our players, he’s going to need to step up his performances a level if he’s going to have an impact in the Premier League.

Jordan Kirkpatrick - Punt. Another one to add to the long list of part time players we’ve signed who’ve not been good enough for full time football. Wasn’t surprised to see him shipped out in January and surely we won’t see him again.

Ross Stewart (st) - Punt. See above.

Nathan Flanagan - Punt. This promising youngster is the same age as Lewis Morgan . Doesn’t appear to have done much at Elgin so it’s puntsville for him.

Miles Hippolyte - Punt. He’s never been a Premier League player and he never will be. Thought scoring the penalty aside he was rubbish against Falkirk.

Josh Todd - Been here a long time now and he’s never managed to hold down a place. Not done enough to get a new deal.

Danny Mullen - Keep. Not been entirely convinced by Danny since he’s came in, but I do think he’s been an upgrade on Reilly. And so does Ross clearly as Gavin’s been punted out the side to accommodate him. 2 goals in 12 games for a striker in a team top of the league isn’t exactly setting the heather alight though. That will certainly need to improve if he’s going to be anything more than a bit part player next year.

John Sutton - Punt. Obvious punt, best of luck to a fantastic servant and can see him doing a job for Dumbarton/Ayr next year.

Daryl Duffy - Punt. What a strange signing. Did he ever actually play a minute of football for us?

Gavin Reilly - Punt. Probably the most controversial of choices, but I just can’t see Reilly doing it in the Premier League. His goal return has been good this season, but if you look at who the majority of his goals have came against it’s no surprise that Jack signed Danny Mullen and stuck Gav on the bench. I would hope we sign at least 2 proven Premier League standard goal scorers in the summer. The fact is that Reilly can’t get a start just now, I can’t see how he’s going to be of any use among a stronger pool of strikers next season.

Oh and Ross and Fowler - Keep. Done a fantastic job.

  11. Interesting to hear Jack say he is signed more as cover for the defence. Knew he had been playing there for Hamilton though. Also interesting to note he was coaching the accies under 15s so maybe brought in to help with that as well

Judging by his interview on Buddievision he's a fit strong scary guy who I wouldn't want to mess with on the park.

Wasn’t that rule changed to a penalty and yellow card at beginning of season ?

Think that was only for tackles that are just mistimed. Think in this instance it was only  a yellow as the keeper was right behind him and would probably have saved it.

I actually thought the ref was very good yesterday however it wasn't that tough a game to referee.

How good is it to see the team play in first gear and still comfortably see out that game. Cigars were out for the 2nd half and 3 very strong subs.

Eck was my man of the match however can't fault anyone who says otherwise

Even though the S*n is often right about St Mirren stuff, this seems like a strange one to me. I'd have thought that the hidden gems at that level would command a small fee when leaving their clubs, or be approached by bigger clubs on pre-contracts. Seems like this guy's been released, which doesn't fill me with confidence. Having said that we should always be open to having a look at a player and Jack has a track record of getting the best out of players who have struggled at other clubs. Hopefully, if there's any truth in it, he goes on to do well, don't imagine we'd be paying him a fortune anyway.

In fairness it's not the non-league side that released him It's Newport who are a League 2 side who are doing fairly well I believe, Just knocked Leeds out the FA Cup last week. Can't hurt to have a look at the guy and see what he's got

Dont know about the poor 1st half for both teams. I though us and Dumbarton knocked the ball about pretty well considering the pitch was heavy and slippy. Could argue that apart from the final product we both had a decent 1st half.

Agree about Reilly, he seemed too desperate to turn and shoot on at least 3 occasions with his back to goal. Felt a bit sorry for Mullen. I hope he can get his first goal soon and get a bit of confidence. A few fans being a bit harsh on him when he lost the ball. Just never worked today for him. It will come.

ETA- i really enjoyed the game.

Agreed. I couldn't believe some of the stick he was getting. He badly needs a goal for confidence I think.

That was a great performance today at a very tough ground on the worst playing surface I have seen for a while. I'm struggling to understand GC_SMFC points about the first half.Up until the the final 3rd we were miles ahead and never in any danger of losing that game.

A lot of people talking about the goals(and quite rightly) but I want to mention the cross from Stelios from the first, Absolutely perfect and a strikers dream. The 2nd was a terrific finish by easily the best player on the park for me in McGinn followed by a terrific celebration.

Lastly I want to mention the fun I had watching the 3 bitter rejects Walsh, Hutton and Carswell resort to kicking our players after chasing shadows for the majority, how Carswell wasn't sent off for his i'll never know.

    COYS!!!

  15. Absolutely loved that yesterday appart from the first 10 minutes. Thought we played really well and deserved to win the game. At 2-0 down then Eck going off I thought we were gubbed but Stelios was a lot more like his old self. The midfield were excellent as were Cammy and Reilly.

The Naismith interview is pretty much bang on except I still don't see this foul he is claiming for in the build up to the 2nd goal.

Never seen any of the issues amongst the support and haven't really heard the full story but on the whole the atmosphere was amazing and it is a joy to be in with the smactive guys.

    CHICKO'S BAD DAY

    According  to Chicko yesterday ...

1 An ICT player was booked for a foul on L Smith which should have been a red card. This allegedly took place early in the game as the first booking. No such booking took place.

    2. He quoted 11 yellow cards being issued. There were 7.

    3. He mentioned several times that Iain Vigurs was an ex-St Mirren player. Vigurs has never played for St Mirren.

    4. He raved to the nation about Morgan playing a blinder in the box. mesmerising several Caly players before being brought down for the penalty. I believe the player in question was Magennis.

Your knowledge is failing Chick as well as your eyesight. Maybe time you chucked it.

Thank God he never playedfor us. Onto the bitter one. I love how he says at the start that they don't mind if they get beaten fair and square, when we beat them fairly in the first game he moaned constantly. It's all pur propoganda to hide the fact that had they put away their chances they wouldn't have had to complain about the ref.

  17. I've not been Jacks biggest fan but I have to say this is for me the best run of performances he has had. There are still the occasional heart in mouth moments but I have been impressed. Davis has looked good since coming back, a couple of rusty moments but on the whole very good

  18. Pretty sure this was addressed on the last update from GS. The company that Joma use to iron the badges has been blamed and changed to someone in Scotland for next year. My badge on mthe away top I got was coming off, but I took it to the shop and it was ironed back on by the kit man and i've had no trouble since.

  19. Funny to see Steve Aitkin taking pish.

Got to be the most biased set of highlights i've seen in a while.

Think big Stewart has a part to play and I think he will come good, but for me his role should be replacing Sutton and not the other way round. Thought most of ther team played well yesterday but an off day for Liam and Lewis, it is tough to play 2games on international duty with the 3nd in Latvia and expect them not to be leggy. For McShane was the best player on the park absolutely strolled it, he semms to be either the best player or the worst when things arent going his way.
