  1. I heard more rumblings about Stokes from a half decent Hibee source yesterday.
  2. I was quite encouraged when I read full details of how they plan to use it at this World Cup. Seems that they are on the right lines. It's how they choose to use it that is the key. If they use it in the right ways at the right times, in a manner that suits football, it's going to be a vast improvement over forcing referees to decide the outcomes of games via guess work. If they get it wrong, it's going to get on peoples' tits and be a wasted opportunity to bring refereeing into the 21st century, as many other sports have.
  3. The name's not that bad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaylord_Family_Oklahoma_Memorial_Stadium
  4. Victor Munoz spent the rest of the Les Fridge game chasing Jackson around, trying to get him back. Less remembered about Jackson is that he was a key member of the squad that reached France '98. He had some outstanding performances during the qualifiers.
  5. Kluivert was part of the Ajax team who trained at Love Street in 1996, and who were apparently loving Fitzy's motivational signs in the dressing room. He was also booed incessantly by the *** fans at the game, so he fits the bill for me.
  6. Hope we get one of the box office names. It's meant to be entertainment. Let's have rollercoaster ride.
  7. His replacement was a certain Ian Nicolson. The discerning Saints fans would have clearly been applauding Nicolson onto the park in anticipation of 99/00. Check out the other sub. http://www.stmirrenprogrammes.co.uk/StMirren/STM_Match_Details.php?Season=1995&GameID=199508140
  8. Most of the newer ships have got excellent wifi now, but you are looking at paying per device, per day, and you need to pay for the whole duration of your trip, so only the likes of Jack Ross could afford it. Keeping it on topic .
  9. That goal had shades of a trademarked Andy Dorman run from deep, like this one against the former Rangers.
  10. She was one of the first people on the park at the final whistle of the 1987 cup final. Ran on and grabbed Kenny McDowall for an interview.
  11. Came on in 87, booked in 88 according to this: https://uk.soccerway.com/matches/2018/05/20/world/friendlies/jordan/cyprus/2787240/
  12. The 2 billion figure is probably the maximum possible audience in all countries where the event was being televised. Similar fanciful pish gets wheeled out to bum up the audience for the Classico, Superbowl, etc.
  13. The less glamorous part of the 1987 cup run.
  14. Airdrie played for more than ten years under the post liquidation Airdrie United handle. To me, the timing of them reinstating the Airdrieonians name, i.e. the year after Sevco's debut season, was a clear case of them having viewed Rangers being too vain to change their name post liquidation, and thinking, "F*ck it, if they're keeping their old name, so are we".
  15. http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town-five-point-plan-and-shrewsbury-boss-paul-hurst-1-5517483
  16. I see a couple of paragraphs about the 'lose and you're relegated 'game at Falkirk. There was something in the air that day because we were bottom with two games left, with a pretty pedestrian, defensive team, and then this happened. Safe by 4.45pm.
  17. We've got previous with David Pleat when he was trying to sign Frank McAvennie. Luton picked up the bill to send a St.Mirren entourage down south with McAvennie, only for him to sign for West Ham instead during the trip. Hopefully Pleat still holds a grudge and will look elsewhere. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/face-to-face-frank-mcavennie-1631528
  18. Gary MacKenzie has played loads of games at a higher level already in his career. Staying on the park is his only challenge, and I hope he does because we are a different proposition in the air without him.
  19. Big John's legacy has long since been sealed. A wonderful servant, and a good guy. There were people crying in the stands after Fir Park '07. First time I'd seen that since Ham**rby.
  20. If you can, rewind it and watch Jack Ross getting rid of his smirk just as he comes back on camera after they'd replayed the Flood incident.
  21. He actually looked surprised to get the second yellow, which was obviously a stick on! No doubt because he's used to getting away with shit in every other game he plays.
  22. We hadn't even hinted at a legitimate promotion challenge for years prior to 99/00, and the lack of any pre-season expectation whatsoever makes it different from the other title years. It was the first proper Saints bandwagon season for a generation of fans who may have witnessed good sides in the top flight, but had yet to see a Saints team win most weeks, dominate a title race and take hordes of fans everywhere we went. All completely out of the blue. 99/00 reset expectations that had long since waned about what a St Mirren team ought to be achieving. When we had a good sides under McFarlane, Miller, etc, I used to love a good Scottish Cup tie, away from home against a diddy outfit, with thousands of travelling fans on hand. 99/00 was like a whole season's worth of cup ties away to diddy sides.
