We have no idea what tactics Danny will deploy next season. We are forever screaming that the squad is too lightweight in certain positions, moreso now that we have lost so many players - most rightfully so. I recall Gary Teale getting stick for being way past it and not contributing and yet he has had a great season and integral to our team - some would have had him chased out the door in the previous season.
We cannot judge any signing and what they will bring until they are physically playing in the team and in a formation that the manager has set out. Harkins is a very good player and perhaps we will get the best out of him now that he has secured a good deal. From what I have seen when playing for Killie and Dimdee he has a lot of quality. It is up to him and the manager to get the very best on the park.

I'm quite surprised by the number of negative comments in here about Harkins.

If I been told a while ago that we'd sign two players like McGowan and Harkins on the one day I would have been delighted.

Both are creative players who are good on the ball and exactly the kind of players that are worth paying to watch.

Of course, Harkins is not going to be the complete player. If he was he wouldn't be signing for us.

McGowan is one of the best players that I have seen playing for us in my time watching St Mirren. And for us to get the best out of him, he needs to be surrounded by similar capable players who are comfortable on the ball and creative enough to be on the same wavelength as McGowan, so they can play together effectively.

Although Harkins may have his faults, he represents a big step in the right direction.

It's time we all got behind the player, welcomed him to the club, and gave him a chance to produce his best football at St. Mirren.

Samson and McGowan are out of contract and can choose another club that likely pays more money or further their career. That leaves 6. Smith was brought in as a standby only to cover for Adam when he was injured and was never going to be with us longer than this season. That is us down to 5 players. Parkin was never going to be kept on as he is no longer good enough at this level while there are alledged issues with Imrie and Guy. We are now down to 4 players. AFAIK, Imrie and Guy are still with the club so that leaves just 2 - Adam and Carey. The issues and feeling around Carey already discussed and apparently there are some issues around Adam with discipline etc. Aberdeen have just released 11 players but like us will bring new faces in during the close season. I am more interested in who is coming in rather than who is going out at this time. If it improves the team then fair enough and if not then the manager has to deal with that.

There is no way Danny will only bring in 3 players this summer he always says stuff like that but there is no chance that will be the number
And to be honest I would rather we spent money on a strong base first 11 and bring through our own players the under 20s had a great season so some of them must be on the brink of coming through and contributing

Well I'm not ashamed to admit I was in tears with three minutes to go while we were all shouting "we want four" as Saints had the ball in the corner. I've followed saints home and away pretty much since I was a boy. It's my 38th birthday today and the ticket was a present from my Celtic supporting brother!
It matches 87 for me as I was too young then to truly appreciate the significance. I'm the only buddy in a family full of ce**ic fans and I've endured a lot over the years from them.

The wounds of THAT final went some way towards being healed this afternoon.

I've now had a beer or 2 to steady myself, since getting back home.
It was simply one of those matches when we didn't have a failure in the team, they all played well and as a unit they were better than the sum of the parts. I can't help special mentions for Thompson, Samson and the superbly flawless McGowan. Also our support was noisy, funny and passionate, it felt great to in among our lot today.

Time has moved on and no doubt that if your beloved Gus had managed to accrue as many points while playing some nice football you would be screaming for a contract extention. You don't like Danny but you support the team first and foremost. Your continual sniping is now bordering on greater tedium than Britains Got Talent. Give it a rest and thank f*ck the season is over but I doubt that will stop your broken record around our manager. He is going nowhere so what is the point of your constant greetin' - are you expecting our team to be challenging up there after a number of mind numbing seasons of mediocrity?

Div, with something so imminent, I would have expected something official from the club to that effect. As usual, we are in the dark having expected all of this to have been resolved when the extension was asked for way back months ago. Still I am sure we will hear things in due course once it is posted on the BBC Sports site.
