  1. 2-1 SAINTS Clarkson with Shankland assist Supersubs Shankland and Clarkson!
  2. Baird getting good press from the commentators. Good to hear he's getting the confidence back
  3. Didn't realise that he was cup tied and agree that all players should be given a chance under the new team. However I think Walsh has done more with his opportunities to date than Hardie has, and if he continues in that vein, it may be that the latter will have to wait a while before he gets his second chance to shine.
  4. Just to clarify my earlier post - I also think McManus has done a decent job - I was just commenting that he does't seem to want to be in the position where he has to do it. With a wee win today he will finish with a 50% record (1W 1D 1L) - and thats no a bad record for any saints manager in recent years!
  5. Live radio coverage is great news! Like many I've got a great football day planned: Listen to Saints 2-0 victory on radio Watch England make a mess of it against Malta Head down to Hampden for the second Good Guys 2-0 victory of the day
  6. Its a strange almost 'zombie' like game: We have a new manager but he's not in charge. The Caretaker doesn't seem to want to be there. We are on a terrible run, Hibs are near the top of the table. We are away from home. Its a cup that not many people are interested in. Fans attention may be split with the Scotland game It all seems to be leading up to one almost inevitable outcome - a storming 2-0 swansong victory for the Caretaker team! Hibs 0 Saints 2 COME ON YE SAINTS ! (and Scotland)
  7. Yep - Didn't realise that we had external caterers so we certainly should bring it in-house. Direct control of all realistically manageable revenue streams is the only way to do it. There's plenty of examples of clubs ceding control of these and getting very poor returns - Rangers and its deals with Mike Ashley for one. It might be a lot of small opportunities but surely they would all add up (?)
  8. I get mine in the Main Stand as Saints already offer a great deal in terms of a free child Season Ticket with every adult Season Ticket. We're in the Main Stand and i know the deal is better in the Family Stand (3 free kids ones) but I've went to the Main Stand on and off for 20 years, since my early days in the old Northbank with my dad - that and I've only got one kid. Its a great idea to give the club a potential transfer kitty boost in January, but due to deals like the one mentioned above, I reckon nearly everyone that wants one already has one. Either that, or like Stuart they have outside commitments that make a Season Ticket impractical. That said, just getting the stay away fans back (only 1999 Saints fans at Falkirk game) will give us a real morale boost as well as an injection into the coffers (through Programmes, Pies, Bovril etc.) So lets hope the new manager bounce gets us some quick wins and the feel good factor back!
  9. I'm glad we've appointed someone at last - the instability and uncertainty was getting everyone (understandably) nervous. He wouldn't have been my first choice - but like many on here have already said he is now the leader of the football team at St Mirren and we all need to get behind him and the team and back them all to the hilt. Jack has got some big problems to tackle; - if possible get a fix for the misfiring midfield / sort out the defence and make the time to assess all the squad members before we run out of time. I'll be interested to see if any wheeling and dealing with out of contract players will be possible. Anyway - welcome back to St Mirren, Jack Ross. Mid table mediocrity this season please. Followed by Scottish Championship winners next season if you don't mind... COME ON YE SAINTS
  10. For me Walsh should be in the starting XI. Not impressed by Hardie at all. I don't know what the problem is with Shankland - but unless he's injured or unfit he should be given a run out.
  11. Just the 5-1 win needed to catch Dumbarton. COYS!
  12. Just the 4-0 win needed to catch Dumbarton. COYS!
  13. Looking forward to this game now. 3 points here sets us up for probably the two hardest games of the group. I'll be taking the wee man to his first Scotland game at Hampden and I've been trying to prepare him for the difference in atmosphere and scale to the saints games - but I still expect him to be gobsmacked! Hopefully we'll go with more than one up front and get a decent win
  14. Last info I saw on this was Neil Lennon last week who was reported as saying that the club would lose four players due to international commitments - but he's making a lot of assumptions... 1. John McGinn (Scotland) - fair enough 2. Jason Cummings (Scotland U21) - surely he'll get a pass as we are already out of contention 3 Ofir Marcianio - (Israel) - hasn't even been called up yet 4 Otso Virtanen - (Finland U21) - likely to be picked but 3rd choice keeper at Hibs While John McGinn would be a big loss, surely the other three will either not be called up (for whatever reason) or wouldn't have played anyway? Mr Lennon should just stop moaning and get on with it. Any squad members he has to throw in are likely going to be higher earners and in better form than most if not all of our first eleven.
  15. Looking at the league table we are now 10 points adrift of the playoffs... even at this early stage it seems like its going to need a minor miracle to get us there. But 6th is achievable - Ayr are 4 points ahead of us and actually have a worse goal difference (!) 1st objective is getting off bottom spot and that should start next week with 1st win of the season. Dumbarton have got the on form QoS - so if we can do our bit it should be achievable
  16. Went straight out last night at full time - so just catching up on the aftermath now. After a dreadful start we played well in patches. The defending put me mind of the Judean People's Front (Suicide Squad) especially the decider - what was Hutton thinking about! Although Gallacher wasn't blameless as he looked like he was woken from sleep when Hutton hit the ball back (instead of OUT). If Sutton had taken his hat trick chance it might have ended differently for us, but as it stands we are now adrift.
  17. I'll go out on a limb and say 3-2 for saints. It would seem that Alex Rae lost the dressing the room - so I'm guessing that most of the players will be far more motivated today and will aim to impress (yes - they should always give their all for us but thats another debate). Defensive frailties are unlikely to be sorted quickly - hence my victory prediction being based on the 'we'll score one more than you' philosophy. In terms of scorers i would like them to be: Morgan (who rightly gets a lot of praise), Walsh (who unfairly does not get as much credit as he should) and Shankland (who i believe could be our goal machine at this level if given an extended run)
  18. Would have rather got another away game on the telly (as I don't get many opportunities to go to these this is admittedly very selfish). That said - its good to get tv exposure. By the time this game comes around we will have our new manager - our team will be winning again - and we will be ready to show the world (well Alba viewership) that we are on the way back up! (I hope)
  19. I don't think the Board will start looking at taking any action in terms of Management Team changes until after the first quarter of the season has been completed. Even then, it may still be unlikely unless a suitable and available replacement has been identified. Underwhelmed by the Manger's performance to date both in terms of transfer decisions and tactics - but the players have got to give more as well
  20. I've been reluctantly revising what I think our realistic targets are for this year. Always thought that Hibs or Dundee United would probably win the title due to resources but had genuine hope that we could make up the four with Falkirk and take our chances in the play offs. Its still early days but thats looking a bit like cloud cuckoo land now. QoS and Raith Rovers look much stronger than us - didn't see the Raith game but by all accounts they hammered us and Queens dominated us in a home game. Falkirk looking ok in 4th leaves us looking at matching last years 6th place as best outcome. Don't want to be defeatist but can't see any better than that unless something radical happens. Even to get to the lofty heights of 6th is going to require us to win games like Dunfermline away. Defeat there will leave us a minimum of two points adrift at the bottom of the league after seven games with Falkirk and Dundee United left to complete the first quarter of the season Alex Rae and the team need to find some way to work together and get the ship steadied or something will have to give - its going to be hard to pick up points at home against United and Falkirk. Whatever our ambitions for the season - play-offs (), mid table or survival - next weeks game already has the look of "must win"
  21. It's probably just me - but is anyone else getting annoyed by being asked if you want a receipt after buying something - especially when paying by credit card? Its like saying "Do you want proof that you've bought this stuff?" or "Do you want to be able to return any of this stuff if it is broken or defective?" Obviously the guys saying it are just doing their job - but it takes cost cutting to a new level - just gies a receipt; its part of the transaction!
  22. If results go our way today, we can end up 6th and 4 points off 4th. None of the results required are outrageous (well apart from maybe Saints win ) Would be good to turn the corner today - come on ye Saints!
