Airdrie v Saints Cup Tie is the first I mind.
It was the weird Broomfield Hen Hoose that sticks in my head.
Don't even know if I was taken to replay.
Haven't a clue if I was taken to Love Street that Season.
    Definetly the next Season though.
To which Games, I know nothing.

2 Jan 1968. Saints Vs Stranraer in the old 1st division. Saints won 2-0, and it was raining heavily.
I was in the main stand courtesy of a kind neighbour of my granny.

Yes, lambert scored the first at the Caledonia end from either a blocked free kick rebound or a short free kick played to him, can't remember, then guni scored a header at the love St end

Being Kirkintilloch born and bred, into a family of bluenoses, i surprised a few by rebelling and choosing The Saints. After months of pestering Dad caved in and took me to my first match . Motherwell V Saints October 9th 1982. Thomson,Wilson,Clarke,Fitzpatrick,McAveety,Copland,McDougall,Stark,McAvennie,Richardson and Scanlon. (Oh to have a few of that standard now). We lost 2-0 but I was hooked. Season ticket as a birthday present every year til I joined the Navy

Must admit I can't recall the specific date but it was about season 1980/81, a cup tie against Stenhousemuir at Love St, aged about 9 or 10. Recall standing at the wall in the bend where the Love St end became the North Bank and thinking 'wow' I'd never seen so many people in the one place ! ????

My dad used to take back in the sixties. I've no idea what my first game would've been.
We used to go on the terracing and wander round at half time so we were always behind the goals Saints were shooting in to.
As a wee kid the football wasn't going to hold my attention for 90 minutes but that was OK because there were plenty of ring pulls from beer cans lying about the ground. With a bit of practice you could use the springy hole covering bit to fire the circular fingery bit into the distance frisbee style.
When watching the game we liked to sit on the low wall seperating the terracing from the track. A couple of coppers had the job of wandering round the track during the game and they alway had to tell you to get your feet on the other side of the wall. That of course meant facing away from the pitch, not what we wanted then although we'd probably be fine with it now.

I actually did post frequently on the Gow signs thread that he has only played 81 minutes of league football this year and hasn't played since the end of August. Gow and Thommo were crazy first signings for Murray to make. A look at Gow's career stats showed he last managed over 30 games in a season with the team he was signed for at the start of the season when he was with Falkirk about 10 years. Since then he has often been sent out on loan not long after signing for a new club. I could see why Teale took a punt on Gow when all we could sign were free agents after selling McLean on the final afternoon of the January window but to make him your first signing as a new manager being brought in to freshen things up and clear out the deadwood was bonkers.
Thommo was also a bonkers signing by Murray - turning 37 during the season after all his injury problems last year and loss of form it was always going to be 50/50 at best as to whether he had a Roy of the Rovers swansong or was sitting on 1 goal in the league as he entered January.
Agnew, stepping up from part time to full time football aged 28 was another given that Murray commented that it was largely U20 development players left in contract when he took over and he needed to get experienced guys in to help them - Gow had a track record, Thommo was a real gamble, and bringing in Agnew as a senior player who had never played at the level Naismith, Kelly, Mallan, Baird has played at in much sorter careers.

Well said. I spoke to Mark in Paddies the day after the final and it was as if I was talking to a fan who had witnessed our fantastic day. The guy was lost for words at what had happened and was as humble as I was proud. A saints fan who lived a dream.

Cheesy will always be a legend at St Mirren, maybe not as a "footballer" but his name is amongst the very few at our club who have won a national trophy. He has done which many of us can only dream of, being part of a St Mirren team to win a cup. Whilst never one of his greatest fans I am delighted that a fellow Bud has had the chance to play a part in making club history. There will be some in that team who will already have their winners medals at the back of a drawer never to see the light of day. For cheesy he will have a constant reminder of what he helped the team he has supported as man and boy achieve. Far from being critical of the guy it`s more jealousy I have towards him and what he did. Sure many games he costs us a goal, sometimes 2, but he also,as part of a team won us a national trophy for first time in 25 years. Maybe time to cut the guy some slack?

Its testing times John but glad to see your faith in the Buddies is still strong. Can't find the enthusiasm to make the trip to the hometown the way Saints are playing but hopefully things will get better.

I new Bead very well from his time up here in Shetland and met him a couple of times when he moved back to Paisley. Couldn't meet a nicer bloke. Wont make the funeral but he'll be in my thoughts.
