We all know what he can do, doesnt matter who hes playing with down south. We all witnessed him score over 30 goals the season we won the championship including a goal at pittodrie in the cup.
Why all the doubters?? Not as if our current strikers are sharp as a tac!

The standard in our league is very poor, that's why we're still not bottom of the league when we cant score goals and have had to play midfielders as centre halves and right backs. Also explains why Cody Cooke is still at the club after contributing next to nothing.
Reilly scored over 30 goals in our championship winning team. He would do just fine in this premier league.

We should go and sign Gavin Reilly. He wouldve scored a barrel load in that killie game. Hes not the best footballer but give him a chance in the box and more often than not he'll bury it. A bit like in the shankland mould. Could be the answer to all those missed chances and dropped points in games.
    Bring him back Jim!

Kearney played him on the left of a back three which was a mistake, but United were not good enough to really expose the way we were set up. The good games outweighed any poor games by a mile....

If we need money to find 5 new players then there is major problems. Surely we have cash to get players considering we have hardly anyone signed and the ones we do have are clearly very poor . I would have thought that if he is happy then let’s build our team around him let’s show some ambition and hope that we can have a good season. This is our chance to be better than a relegation candidate and keeping our best player is crucial. If we sell him then it speaks volumes about the situation we are in.

Hladky has made no secret of the fact he wants a move to England. Should be trying to put an extra year or 2 on his contract, increase his wage and make an agreement that if any large English club comes in for him we won't stand in his way

Oran kept us up. That's all that was asked of him and he did that. Sounds simplistic I know

Was Jack Ross a better Manager here? Really...how? Both performed Great escapes. When we got promoted under Ross we limped over the line with very strange subbings and tactics. All hail Jack Ross who took off elsewhere.
Perhaps Coleraine are a better Club than us, smaller in size but less whingein fickle fans. When we won the play offs to a man we were applauding the man. If not you were absent.
Then out come the yellow backbone of our fickle support.
Was he perfect, far from it but was learning.
Man up ... our club foikd up big time.
If Goodwin is in the same position I hope he can perform a Great escape of the Club too.

It would have been tragic to fail to qualify from that League Cup Group - you can forgive the one off result every now and again against lower league opposition, but to fail to beat both Spartans and Queen’s Park in 90 minutes within a week of each other was extremely worrying. While the exit to Aberdeen was expected, the manner of the defeat was shocking.
The three league games he didn’t win were very telling - a piss poor performance against Livi (which if I’m right was their only victory on the road all season), the debacle at Tynecastle and the defeat at Ibrox which could have been horrendous if not for the early red card.
With Kearney it depends what your own expectations were. For myself and many others, it was purely survival. Sep-Jan for me was about not falling behind the others, and I think Oran did well adding Anton, Hammill, Lyness and Jackson - one improved the defence and certainly helped Jack Baird to improve his performances. One scored and assisted a fair few goals before his spell ended, and two of his goals were GOTS contenders. One would end up our joint top scorer for the season. One only played four times but put in decent enough performances that we have brought him back in as backup to Hladky.
January was about improving the team, and between Oran and Gus we seen that through signing the likes of Hladky, Popescu, Muzek, McAllister and Dreyer. Much like JR’s survival effort, it took time to get to grips with things but eventually we became a very difficult side to beat, and after offering vey little going forward we created many more chances. Oran got the best out of Ryan Flynn and that was like a having new signing. Bairdy continued to thrive from his days with Anton (as did Paul McGinn) and barely put a foot wrong once he had better defenders next to him and more midfield support.
In the end we finished a massive 11 points clear of Dundee - yes they were shite, but 11 points clear was unimaginable in September. Accies scraped it by 1pt, and goal difference was in our favour by absolute miles. It may have taken penalties to beat Dundee United, but that was a side who dumped us out of the cup three months previously - we did a much better job of matching them when the playoffs came.
Oran has proven history of improving a club - he left Coleraine in a much better position than he began, and given time, he may have achieved the same here. I get your point, and I think it comes down to what your and my expectations were after Stubbs got hoofed in September, and perhaps that’s why we see different here.

he was absolutely outstanding for saints and if we had a chance we should have signed the lad - Mckenzie is good but you’ll not get a full season from him. Popescu was one of the reasons why we survived. Didn’t a board member sat we were waiting signing two defenders? If he ends up at Hibs or st Johnstone that will be a joke

No Shull, I will not allow your depressing outlook on life to be bolstered by pishy fact grabbing without a modicum of intellect.  You are one of those fun hoovers, devoid of joy and ambition.

Purchasing a player of quality, whom we can afford at a time when we need him is NOT akin to the nonsense that nearly saw us go out of business in the early 1990's.  I recall those days all too well.  What should we use our income for?  paying off managers every year or occasionally should we invest in the team when an opportunity like this presents itself.

Teams around us occasionally "throw the dice" and teams around us occasionally break into the top six.  Saint Johnstone, Motherwell and Kilmarnock all regularly out perform us whilst we are always left looking on.  It is time that we redoubled our efforts and tried to match those who leave us behind every year.  None of those three clubs are bigger than us but they DO deliver better league positions year on year.....this depressing fact shows that our club is NOT doing as well as it should be.

With money coming in from players like Kenny McLean and John McGinn would it be reasonable to spend SOME of that cash on a quality player (who can always be sold on) or should we stay in the bargain basement having never tried?

Selling players for profit (like the two above) is essential but if we cannot re-invest something in the team then what is the point?

Big Mihai would in all likliehood generate a profit as players of his quality don't tend to stay in Scottish football long before an overly rich English club comes a calling!

Thank you for that glimmer of hope.

I see the "get real" brigade out in force with the usual negative nonsense that they seem to bathe themselves in. Fun hoovers who suck the joy from anything/everything.

The fact is, the club does (for once) have a bit of money.  The club has unearthed a player of real talent and he actually WANTS to play for us.  So we CAN afford the asking price.  What the negative band seem to overlook is that the player is worth every penny.  If he is worth every penny to us just now he will be worth every penny in 2 years when we can look to sell him on.  Of course that is discounting the fact that top league survival is all the easier with a good player like him in the centre of your defence.  If we never try then Tony's top four talk is just that, mad ranting's indeed.

If we are never going to "roll the dice" and make that attempt at improving our lot then what is the point?

No problem with you disagreeing old boy but he was the best passer of all our centre half's without a shadow of a doubt and better then more than a couple of our midfielders.

Yeah that’s correct. Tony uses the restaurant regularly and I know the entire team went there on the eve of both our play offs.
I understand comments preferring someone more experienced for that role and I can find reason with that because Oran whilst experienced for a long time in football management is relatively new at our level. On the flip side everyone has to start somewhere (we’d never had taken Fergie for example). Sometimes it can be down to the right timing for availability.
Donati  is eager to get started and having recently stopped playing is agile to take training. Looking at his previous teams he has played for Milan, Sampdoria, Bari x2, Celtic, Hamilton and us.  He is connected to the Italian owner of an English Championship side. He WILL go into management and wants a full manager role, so think he might be tempted to our assistant role because it is local and he has an obvious interest with us. I believe he is well regarded by the players. I also would like to see Anton in this role. I agree with other comments made as to why this might not happen. Two good candidates to try before going for an unknown. Other thought is perhaps Oran has his own preference from his homeland..

I think Popescu is a great player for us. We should do all within our means to get him. As with Vaclav, we may then be in for more money to repay our investment, and in the meantime retain a solid want to win player.

I think Massimo Donatti would be a contender. Is fit enough to take coaching sessions! Local, with a strong playing credentials for experience, plus has many connections including the owner of Leeds Utd. (For tapping)
I know he didn’t make many appearances during his time recently but is fully qualified and has attended a lot of our games this year.
    Worth a look at
