  4. after an afternoon at the Famous 3 Kings in West Kensington with The London Saints watching a St Mirren match {St Mirren v Celtic when Graveson scored a hatrick} it took me 9 trains to get home instead of the usual 3 because I had to keep taking detours as I had poisoned myself with the drink that day.
  5. a wee bit out of the way from Paisley but, if you're ever up that way The Red Poppy Restaurant in Strathpeffer is worth a visit but best to book in advance. Even though it's in the back of beyond, it gets busy. and, when I'm up there next month, i'll be heading out for a wee sojourn to the St Mirren Cemetry at Rogart {between Golspie & Lairg} to see what that's about. Down in London, The Natural History Museum at Kensington is magnificent & for Shull, it is free in .
  6. the outcome of the referendum will barely affect me as I am unlikely ever to live back in Scotland but one of the questions I have found myself asking is giving the Yes Campaign allege that Scotland gets a raw deal from Westminster as is, could having this referendum compromise what Scotland gets from the top table {Westminster} if a No vote is returned? Just a thought.
  7. great stuff. Congratulations We go 9v9 next season so training today is a 9v9 match against a team from Galleywood {Chelmsford} Time to start getting the boys used to off sides, bigger pitch etc.
  8. Brian, I'm planning on getting up for the Motherwell game at GHR {enroute to the inlaws in strathpeffer}, all this talk of whisky has whetted the appetite. Drams?? I'll be giving Dave M, Jimmy Boo & a few others a nudge too
  9. regardless of all else going on at the club just now & disgruntlement amongst supporters, nights like this might just give a variety of folk {players, staff, BoD, supporters} connected to the club a wee psychological boost and that alone, makes events like this worth it. It's not everyone's idea of a good time and that is fine but for those who do go [i wish I was one but living in London....} I'm sure will have a good night. Best wishes for a craicing night
  10. meant to add, Joma can & will produce any of their kits in bespoke colours. I asked for a price on a kit that they don't have on the shelf if they would do it in Yellow with royal blue trim. with no minimum quantity, I've been told £28 for top & shorts. They are now getting me a price larger quantities. Kits are made in Madrid so it will be a slower turnaround than walking into Prokituk and ordering a kit off the shelf but, with the template already made, the kit can continue for years & years instead of the 3 year period the kit manufacturers have now.
  11. Great stuff Stuart, your Chairman has done well. I quite liked the Uhlsport top they done for St Mirren a {good} few years back & had wondered why their kits weren't so popular at grassroots. Would like to see what kit Uhlsport do in Yellow {top} with Royal blue trim if any, but in the meantime, I've been looking at Joma's kits & Adidas for our club for next season. Would love to get close to the deal WWW have got with Uhlsport. I told my mate that he'd be daft to take the player back as it was obvious he thinks he's better than the team & he should stick with the players he has, who want to play. My mates U13 team won 7-2 on Sunday and the wantaway scored twice in the friendly for the other team. Looks like everyone is a winner :-).
  12. a friend of mine who manages an U13 team has a dilemma and isn't quite sure what he should do, I thought I'd run it past folks on this thread to ask for your opinion on it. one of his players has called off from todays league match so that he can play in a friendly for another club but says he's "not leaving the team" The player has been doing additional training with this club as they play in a higher division of a similar league. It is not an academy or a pro youth team that he's playing the friendly for. how would you manage this .accept that he's looking for another team but play him when he turns up. Wish him all the best but since he's looking for a new team, best to play the players that want to play in the team? Something else? Many thanks. G..
  13. something like that. My mate joined Club Wembley and bought 2 tickets and could have got a couple more so 1 membership should suffice I think. If in the vicinity of Wembley on cup final day, it is worth going to the ticket office and asking if there has been any returns. I got tickets for the Portsmouth end a few years ago when Portsmouth played Chelsea in the final. My mate used the 2 tickets to take his Chelsea supporting son. Wandered up to the ticket office and asked if there was any chance of swapping for tickets in the Chelsea end and did. It would appear, very few ask about returns so might be worth the gamble. If unsuccessful with that one, nice we curry house to the right of the ramp as you walk back down Wembley way & it shows live football.
  14. club Wembley is worth the extra money, went to Everton v Liverpool FA cup semi last season, great seats.
  15. the professional clubs down here hoover up players showing any "promise" from the age of 8 or 9. Charlton, Chelsea & Southend all train development squads in my local park and West Ham is 1 mile away. My mates nephew Dillon Phillips joined Charlton when he was 9, is now 18 and has recently gone with their 1st team as cover for the GK. Dillons younger brother got signed by Tottenham aged 8. Last season, I got a call from a scout of Norwich FC wanting to come and watch my team, they were 8 years of age. Pure mental that the senior clubs obliterate local youth teams so early but it's something I suppose we've got to learn to live with. We go 9v9 next season & I can't wait for that, the lads in the team will be well able for it & with that bit of a bigger pitch to play on, should do well. In the meantime, I've cracked on starting an U13 Girls team and will start an U12 girls team for next season. Stuart, recently completed a "grow the game" funding application for which I had to attend a meeting with Essex FA and discuss the plan with them. As long as they now support the application, I could gain funding up to £4500 to start 3 new girls teams. I have said U12's this season followed by another U12's & U10's girls the following season. Just got to wait now & see what GTG decide as a few clubs were applying for funding. Essex FA had an allocation of £75000 they can distribute.
  16. the off licences too, with the booze getting carted into the square.
  17. bad planning on a day Westminster Council declared Trafalgar Square to be an alcohol free zone.
  18. a wee heart warmer. I booked the astro turf at a secondary school up the road for midweek training last week for 10 weeks as our usual midweek training ground is under water. Our weekend training ground has succumbed to waterlogging too and training on Saturday got cancelled too. I called the school & asked if there was any chance we could train there for 2 hours on Saturday morning. We could and duly turned up & started training at 10. Around 10:45, the heavens opened but we soldiered on but the rain became sleet like and around 11, became torrential and the players started to enjoy it less & less so we decided to call it a day. At training last night, I got called into the office and they offered me my money back since the rain had disrupted our training and we'd only trained for 1 of the 2 hours booked. Never experienced that before, anyways we opted to take a 2 hour booking this Saturday and they've offered to better any price we get for our summer tournament. Happy with that.
  19. It might be fine for the educated rugby masses to get spanked without reply but getting f**ked beyond belief by your opponent wouldn't be tolerated by the tartan army. Copyright Shull - f**kem.
  20. was in town today for a wee wander & popped into a wee pub, The Harp tucked in behind St Martin in the fields off Trafalgar Square. a cracking selection of malts along the bar, counted quite a few and spotted some Glengoyne. Never had a bad dram of it & didn't today either.
  21. I'd have thought his reaction would be to question those throwing the coins "think you're a hard man, yer f**king fannies" instead of greetin about those bad fans. He should however, be able to attend any match he wishes & not be subject to abuse. I'm not confident he has the intellect to realise, his own behaviour contributes to others reaction to him. Here's hoping if he ever turns up at St Mirren Park, he does so without as much as a second glance. I reckon no reaction would bother him more.
  22. with 993 whiskies to get through, that's going to be a cracking night. Maybe need to go back a 3rd time for another go when your mates from London are in town {aherm }
  23. Went to New York in November, arrived about 7:30pm their time and as we were all knackered decided quick bite & then bed so we would be raring to go in the morning. Being one who doesn't do a lot of sleep, I woke up at 1am. I decided I didn't want to stay in the room and risk waking the wife and children so headed off out and grabbed the paper on the way {in case I found a pub open} Out on times square, I turned the corner and there was an irish pub O'Lunneys that was open so fired in for a beer and a read of the paper. After a couple of pints of Harp, I spied the whiskies and thought "why not" had a wee go at the 12 year old Macallan, with a drop of water. Was decent stuff but not a patch on the 18 year old Macallan that I tried next. A dram in New York is not the same as a dram you'd get in one of our pubs but nonetheless at $16 dollars a go, I had a few. Bar shut at 4am so I wandered back to the hotel and as I climbed back into bed, Nic rolled over and asked, "been up long" "1/2 an hour" I replied and crashed into a drunken sleep anyways, the 18 year old Macallan was a fine drop made better with a drip of water.
  24. enjoying a wee dram of Old Pulteney. never heard of it and it has surprised me. Good stuff from Wick
  25. would usually have wanted a team above us to horse a team below but loved Ross County doing united yesterday. Long may it continue that Dundee United get horsed {& every other team managed by McNamara in the future.
