  1. How many points behind will we be if we beat them by a narrow margin?
  2. Morton victory secures Saints' place in Championship for next season.
  3. Alloa, who have only six games left, are 20 points behind us and not able to get ahead of us. Automatic relegation avoided for this season????
  4. What's Reg Brearley up to these days?
  5. Interesting to see Billy Johnston or Billy Jo Spears as we used to call him, listed as both a full back and a sub. By the way I remember the game - Peter Leonard's finest 15 minutes in a Saints shirt, or any other shirt for that matter.
  6. My dad used to take back in the sixties. I've no idea what my first game would've been. We used to go on the terracing and wander round at half time so we were always behind the goals Saints were shooting in to. As a wee kid the football wasn't going to hold my attention for 90 minutes but that was OK because there were plenty of ring pulls from beer cans lying about the ground. With a bit of practice you could use the springy hole covering bit to fire the circular fingery bit into the distance frisbee style. When watching the game we liked to sit on the low wall seperating the terracing from the track. A couple of coppers had the job of wandering round the track during the game and they alway had to tell you to get your feet on the other side of the wall. That of course meant facing away from the pitch, not what we wanted then although we'd probably be fine with it now.
  7. Interesting programme, based on a film and book of course. By the TV show was being made plenty of people in prominent positions in the States had loads to say about America's involvement in Vietnam but any references they wanted to make about that were very heavily censored by the authorities. The makers of MASH used the Korean setting as a means of getting round the censorship and making the points they wanted.
  8. Most enjoyable day out I've ever had a a game of football. Hyslop and their goalie were sent off 5 minutes before half time. Should've been McDowall instead of Hyslop but the ref never got a proper view of the handbags. They put a wee short-arse called Townsend in goal, he was playing his last ever game for them before emigrating to Australia. We were 2 - 0 down at the time but Bobby Reid got one back before the break, they put someone else in goal for the second half but we ran riot. I can remember with about 5 minutes to go we were 5 - 2 up and their fans were streaming towards the exits. However they hesitated a bit when Ritchie made it 5 - 3 and they were ready to be right up for it again when straight from the kick-off they nearly scored a fourth. That was it though, within seconds we were scoring at the other end and their terracing was instantly deserted.
  9. There was once a half time draw at Love Street with a bike for a prize. When the ticket was pulled the tannoy guy announced the winner as Ian Scanlon. Hang on he quickly said we'll redraw that and he soon came up with a different name. Didn't matter to the fans of course - every time Scanlon got involved in the second half, the shouts were "Haw Scanlon, on yer bike"
  10. Is he better that Langfield (I'm better that Langfield)
  11. Declan Gallagher scored a late winner for them against us in the League Cup in August. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/declan-gallagher-footballer-back-training-6113156
  12. The fans wanted him out. Him leaving was the right thing for the club. The board......who knows what they're thinking, but the fans don't trust them to do the right thing. Abusing him today was the only means they had of achieving their objective. I wasn't there but from what I read on here, if the reaction had been polite clapping and "never mind old chap, better luck next week" then he'd still be there. In other words it was nasty but job done. And from his point of view, yes it was a sore one, but not physically. He's still got his health, all his facilities are intact, he'll get over it and probably quite quickly. There's a lot worse can happen to people than having some football fans shouting abuse at you for a few minutes.
  13. See if Danny Lennon gets it, that'll be it for me, out, finished, never again. I'm not even going to look for the results.
  14. Okay then how's this working for you.Calderwood was on the radio last night saying "I want a job as a football manager".

  16. Sixteen billion of them. It's true they really are taking over.
  17. You've pretty well nailed it there. It occurred to me at the final whistle that at a high level a decision was made that the sport does not want a semi final between Argentina and Scotland. It's not quite the image the game wants to promote, especially when it guarantees one of them in the final probably against New Zealand where you'll see a one sided game with a 50 point winning margin by the end. Hmmm, not quite the spectacle they want for a audience of mostly casual observers.
  18. They wandered up the park and knocked one in shortly afterwards, then played out the rest of the game with an apparent attitude of - we can score when we want.
  19. Every time I see his goal I think there's something odd about it. He gets the ball in the inside right position, touches it six times, all with the left foot including the shot at the end. Dutch defenders appear to be doing their best to get out of his way. Final score - Holland lose narrowly and by doing so finish second in the group and avoid Argentina in the next round. ......just saying like.......
  20. I once sat near him in the stand at Accies v Saints game at Douglas Park (old). He can swear at a level that makes Malcolm Tucker sound like Daniel O'Donnel.
  21. Nice picture, who is the guy at the front between Aber and Jack Copland?
  22. Everybody have fun tonight. Everybody Kwang Tung tonight.
  23. Championship standard player, we played him for years when in the premier league the released him when we got to the championship. It's the St.Mirren way you know.
