  1. He's not great but comfortable better than we have just now. What we really need is a manager who knows what you're supposed to be doing if you are a football team manager.
  2. With the players we have, where in the league do you guys think we'd be if we had - I don't even mean a good manager- just a standard Scottish Premier League level manager?
  3. If he was a genuinely good football manager, it wouldn't matter to me if he had the personality of a train spotter and the morality of a hedge fund manager.
  4. I saw a few of the games he played for us. He was on a different level from everyone else on the park. It's a pity the guys round about him couldn't read the moves he was making.
  5. Victor is the best player ever to have played for St.Mirren.
  6. It was actually pish. It was being scripted as it was being filmed. And when eventually the writers couldn't think of a way to finish it, it just petered out.
  7. Do you believe staying up is better than going down? And FYI he'd have a hard job bankrupting us if he wasn't given any money to spend.
  8. Right, here's a thing. Jimmy Calderwod. Right now, these things don't matter. 1. His colour 2. His way of talking in TV interviews 3. The way his teams play. This does matter. Will our chances of staying up improve if he was given the manager's job tomorrow. Of course we don't know for sure, but if the board believes our chances would be improved by even 1% then the answer has to be....... do it!
  9. I think you'll find that one of the principles of debate is to look at an issue from a different perspective and by doing so perhaps develop a clearer understanding. And FYI, although I'm also at work I can use any adjectives I want. However I choose to use the language of considered and respectful intercourse.
  10. Here's a thought experiment for you. Imagine it was up it you to decide when Danny has to go and he is in the job until you say otherwise. We then go into a bit of a decline. How far down would we have to go before you thought "Hmmm, winning the League Cup was great but it's now time for a change." Same question to all Danny backers.
  11. There are a fair number of Danny Lennon supporters on this thread. Here's a question for them; do you think he is a good manager? Or maybe you think he is OK or competent or not that bad? Do you think that there are better managers out there that we could have at Saints? One way to judge a manager is by his signings. Now any time a manager signs new players he is taking a bit of a chance because he doesn't really know what they are going to be like. If I remember correctly Danny's first few signing were guys from Cowdenbeath where he had previously been manager, in other words he knew, or should've known, exactly what they were like. Despite that however they proved to be duds, not McGregor though, he's been good. Now he may have failings in various aspect of football management, he may even have some assets as well for all I know, but his ability at identifying a potential Premier League Standard seems to be at best a bit hit and miss. I think it's time for a change. Plenty will argue that winning the League Cup was a great achievement and like every other Saints fans I really enjoyed the day. But we defended the trophy by going out in the first round to a team from a lower league. Sadly that that was more symptomatic of performances and results under Lennon' s stewardship.
  12. Choke on your Bucky more like. Somner: Scotland's top scorer in a team that finished third in the league. Higdon: Scotland's top scorer in a team that finished second in the league.
  13. All this talk about strikers we've had. Thomson, Somner, McDougall, Yardley. All great players, although I'm not convinced about Yardley. However what about Higdon? Has he been forgotten? Surely the goals he got for us playing in a poorish team for a couple of years puts him on a par with these guys.
  14. Levein's track record includes managing Hearts, Dundee United, Leicester City and Scotland. Quite clearly then underqualified to be managing the Saints!
  15. Got Hibs to cup finals in consecutive years and was his team actually that much worse than the much baleyhoo'd Butcher version.Don't get me wrong, he wouldn't get my vote as a replacement. However the point is that being a flop at Easter Road doesn't in itself make you a dud , most of their recent managers have been a bit of a let down. As a job it's almost become something of a poisoned chalice.
  16. Of the top of my head. Owen Coyle Peter Houston Alex McLeish Craig Levein OK none of them are exactly Mourinho or Guardiola, and I can just about hear plenty of people on here looking at those names and saying "dodgy track record, especially in England". To which I would reply what is Danny's record like managing in England. Of course he doesn't have one, and furthermore it's almost impossible to imagine an English team giving him a job. And here's another couple of names for you. McGhee, Fenlon. Aye" pooh pooh all you like, but could you put your hand on your heart and say they would not get more out of our squad than Danny-boy?
  17. The point is that there are guys out there who have a decent track record in management, who are out of work just now and who would be much, much better than Danny.
  18. 27 Jan 2013, Saintee Boys 3, Celtic 2. I fair enjoyed that day at Hampden.
  19. I forgot to mention, it's been on my mantlepeice ever since.
  20. When I was in the Anfield trophy room a few years ago I spotted the St.Mirren Centenary Trophy proudly on display.
  21. I've just noticed that's an anagram.
  22. Any word on McGowan's injury? I wouldn't like to see him having to miss games.
