RickMcD reacted to Wendy Saintss in 4 told they can leave
Agree
Of the regulars, we lost Morgan, Smith and Davis. Reilly has also left, albeit he had been benched.
We’ve brought in Heaton, McGinn, King, Kellerman & Cooke.
As far as I can see I don’t think we are too short on numbers.
If the 5 we had brought in had all been known players then I don’t think there would be an issue.
Folk seem to be panicking because they don’t know if the new guys are any good or not!
We’ll bring in more players, there is no doubt. But I really don’t think we’re in a different position than some other clubs.

RickMcD got a reaction from the digger in 8 - 0 Cathkin replay
I was at this game too. Went on a special train from Gilmour Street to Queens Park (I think it was) and walked the rest of the way to Cathkin. What a night! Jocky Robertson was small for a keeper but he was good. Big Jolly scored four. He was a big lump of a guy and when he hit a ball hard by God it moved. We reckoned that with two of Rodger's goals Jocky was in a good position but the force of the shots carried him and the ball over the line. Not sure that was true but I like to think so. Tommy Bryceland was magnificent that night. He scored two and was involved in most of the other six.
Last time this match was discussed, there was mention of had it been fixed. I'm not a betting man and I don't know if there was much football betting back then. But as I posted on here before I got to know Tommy reasonably well in the early 80's and he told me when these stories first raised their ugly head he didn't believe a word. But he told me one night that he now knew it was true. He didn't tell me how he knew but he seemed to be certain it was. I didn't like hearing it but I don't see why Tommy would have made it up.

RickMcD reacted to jaybee in SMISA no more...
It must be really difficult to be you my friend; living in a universe where everything isn't just; as you would decree, where people can't or won't appreciate your sagacity, where even those who run a tidily football forum limit your audience and thus further constrain the immense importance of what you need to impart in those dumb people who just don't understand how important your views are and why everyone should believe in you. Personally I thought you were talking Poo .................. but what do I know

RickMcD reacted to pozbaird in Jack's Return!
Serious question. Are you a regular on any Sunderland fan forum, and if so, are you an irritating pain in the arse on there too?

RickMcD reacted to Dare in Jack Ross - SMTID?
Think what most Saints fans would have loved is if Jack had stayed long enough to have a crack at the SPL, particularly given the momentum that as a club we have built up in the last 18 months.
Sadly it wasn’t to be and when you take a step back from it he has to do what is right for him and his family. As previous poster said if he gets this right he could be set up for life.
We are all a bit deflated just now but St Mirren are back in the top league where we belong and the fans are right behind the club - lets get our new manager in place and kick on. COYS!!

RickMcD reacted to John Gotti in Jack Ross - SMTID?
I have no idea what age you are but if you have a wife and kids then I find this comment astonishing.
I love my club but while I also love my employer IF I ever get offered a 500% pay rise then my family come first. This has nothing to do with integrity it simply comes down to economics.
Honestly Bud just think how this changes Jacks life. He can pay off his house, set up his kids and give himself a chance to become a real name in England and maybe even set for life.

RickMcD reacted to Sonny in Sunderland Speak To Jack Ross
Thanks Jack and James for everthing. The last 18months have been the most memorable in years and if it wasn’t for you two we may may be looking forward to the Championship and not the Premiership next season. I, for one, will always wecome you back. Legend.

RickMcD reacted to Drew in Jack Ross - SMTID?
They've moved on.
Aye, it wasn't in the best of circumstances, but let's take a wee step back and appreciate what they achieved while they were here. That won't be erased, and we are all benefiting from their efforts.
Let's not be petty and bitter. We're better than that.

Think you could end up disappointed.
Robbie Neilson at only 38 (18 months older than Goodwin) is also young and up and coming.
Robbie Neilson got Hearts promoted.
Looks like the main difference between the two is that Neilson has done what Goodwin has done younger and at a higher level but Goodwin hasn't had the chance to be bagged in England yet.
Flop at MK Dons is something I've read a lot. He wasn't as big a flop as Derek McInnes was at Bristol City or Stevie Clarke at Reading and both of them seem to be doing OK.

RickMcD got a reaction from eastlandssaint in So Farewell then.................Clint Walker
I'm an unashamed lover of western movies and the TV western series too. Clint Walker was Cheyenne Bodie in the TV western of that name and was a big favourite of mine back in the late 50's. We only got our first TV in 1957 and Cheyenne was in it's heyday then.
A friend of mine over here in Bangor was named Clint after Clint Walker and most people always assumed he had been named after Clint Eastwood. Understandable, I suppose.
My good friend died last month at 60 years of age. He was a great guy. Unfortunately, he was a victim of the Kincora scandal over here and it very badly affected his life. The government over here finally agreed to pay compensation to the victims but then the whole bastard lot of them went on strike and everything came to a halt. Clint could have had a ball during his last 18 months but he got zilch. Our MP's are still not talking.
Clint was a fanatical Pink Floyd fan and at his Humanist funeral service the last song was Shine On You Crazy Diamond. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

RickMcD reacted to DougJamie in Ipswich Town - Permission to Speak with Jack Ross
Been thinking on this one
First- He hasnt been offered anything.................... clubs like Ipswich will probably identify 10 -15 managers
JR will be allowed to talk with any club that approaches- POSITIVE
He has just signed new deal with us- POSTIVE
He will have been given assurances by our BOD- POSITIVE
He knows how fickle football is- NEGATIVE/positive
He has our support- POSTIVE
Ipswich had a toxic relationship with last manager- NEGATIVE
Ipswich have no chance of making play offs- NEGATIVE
Have every chance of going down- Likely WBA, Swansea, Stoke, plus the usual big contenders will challenge...... NEGATIVE-
A bad season at Ipswich could ruin his ambitions - NEGATIVE
The English Championship plays 46 games , usually 2 a week, plus Cups- he will need a huge squad and they are in huge debt- LOTS OF NEGS
The life expectancy of a Championship manager is 8 months NEG
East Anglia is flat and a little pointless - NEG
Basically- ==== Jack will stay...................

RickMcD reacted to Drew in What do you expect of the Chairman and Board
Like Pod, I'm satisfied with the progress the Chairman, CEO, and BoD have made.
Is it perfect? No.
Is anything perfect? No.
Can I be arsed reading yet more of Dickson's unremittingly negative ramblings? Most certainly not.
ETA - in fairness, it wasn't unremittingly negative in this instance, but it was certainly tiresome, coming, as it does, from a man who seems to have little interest in the club beyond seeking out any opportunity to be critical.
