Just want to make it clear that I don't blame Sinn Fein for the current situation. One lot is as bad as the other. Strange that The Chuckle Brothers could get on so well yet the current MLA's are as far away from sustaining a working relationship as they were before the Good Friday Agreement.

When I moved to Bangor in 1985, our local police station was like a fortress with armed police on the gates. If a tile got blown off the roof it was usually caused by a bomb. Now the new police station is like a modern office block and the opening hours are 9am until 5-30 pm, closing for an hour at lunchtime. Police are still regularly called peelers over here, which I quite like. The old RUC uniform was green, ironically called rifle green, which looked more like black. Of course that led to them getting called black bastards. When relative peace came along and officers removed there flak jackets and helmets, they regularly heard shouts of ' So you're no really black bastards!'
If any of our readers ever visit Belfast, I highly recommend a visit to the old Crumlin Road Jail. Well worth a visit. Amongst it's alumni were Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness, luckily not at the same time. So too, incredibly, was Eamon de Valera.
PS. I genuinely believe that if Martin McGuiness was still alive, we wouldn't have this crazy impasse over here about devolved government.

Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of the death of my Grampa, Vic Slack.
He grew up in Paisley and was St Mirren through and through. His favourite player was Gerry Baker. He was an aircraft fitter in the RAF, and loved playing football, bowls, cricket and snooker.
He's the sole reason I support St Mirren. To look at it from another angle, St Mirren are the reason I exist: my Gran was, ahem, 'courting' the Saints goalie at the time, which was when my Grampa noticed her. She went to a dance with the goalie, left with my Grampa, and the rest is history.
My avatar pic was taken in his back garden, wearing the strip he bought me when I was born. It took a couple of years to grow into it!
Following Saints is how I keep his memory alive.

I took this pic of him with my gran (right) and great aunt, at the final in 1987.

I don't know Kenny at all but I felt at the time of the election he was very enthusiastic about the future for SMiSA. As a member of SMiSA, I assume that some explanation will be made available to all of us. Wouldn't say I'm alarmed at this stage but I am a tad concerned. It just sounds a bit odd.

I suppose I'll have to give you the benefit of the doubt about the efficacy of your final sentence. As far as I am aware StuDick is the only current poster I have on ignore. The disappointing thing I feel, is the number of really good guys who respond to his every post. Virtually never to congratulate him- Normally to denigrate him and his views. And the mind numbing time the words wanky pish are used is mind boggling. I hope you noticed I suggested ignoring him for a month. That was purely to see what reaction there would be from him.
This guy genuinely seems bemused that St.Mirren FC can turn down his oft repeated offers to help. He doesn't understand why. Answers on a postcard.......

Actually I think you'll find that people make almost all of their political decisions without listening to politicians at all.
Which is exactly how it should be. They are all lying, thieving bastards so it doesn't matter to an extent which of them gets in.
Someone has to run the country though and I suspect that most people simply vote for the party which seems most aligned with their own beliefs.
For example if you broadly favour personal responsibility and meritocracy with minimal government interference in your day to day life, you'll probably be inclined to vote Tory. If you believe in independence you'll probably be more likely to vote SNP and if you believe the state should be wiping the collective arses of the population before gently breastfeeding them into a long and peaceful sleep each night then you'll vote Labour. I think most people quite understandably and rightly have far too much going on in their lives to seriously give any more than a partial f**k about the inane witterings of people like Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn and Nicola Sturgeon.

I think you and Froggie should start your own  St Mirren Fan Club................... jesus man you support a provincial club what do you expect!!!
You complain about fans who think we will beat the likes of Brechin ,and  Dumbarton,  yeah and sure we come a good few croppers, especially against Sons, I can remember them thrashing us twice same season 3-0, but guess what a year or two later, we got promoted, and I am sure I have seen more Saints defeats than I have wins-  but I never not confident.. Sons seem to have the measure on us
Saturday was appalling, and I was pretty down for a few hours, but I don't say I am not confident of beating other teams..... we have played Brechin 34 times and lost once, they have 3 points out of a possible 45, we have 29..................... We have 9 wins, they have none. My mate says Ton were hopeless and won 4-1
I am confident - Yes - Very...... even if we happened to lose or Draw I will be confident the following week. Maybe you have never played sport- but with your attitude you would get hurt a lot of the time....

So Man Up....... be confident and stop being such a negative "supporter" on print............................

Its not really uncharted, it's all there in the accounts over the years - if the club cant fund certain things, then the board need to cough up. SMISA will be largest shareholder, so if there are no extra funds in the kitty, guess who will have to pony up.

The driver deserves his sentence, no argument from me there, but what about his employer - there must be some degree of corporate responsibility.
There are regulations for lorry drivers but if this guy was regularly driving 14 hours a day his employers must've known and been looking the other way.

Livingston are a decent team and will be hard for anyone to beat this season, so last night was a great 3 points. Their defenders dealt well with our front players , sometimes a bit roughly it has to be said, but we kept at it and I thought Eck had a great game, as did Morgan of course. First viewing of Davis and he is a good passer and organiser, Jack Baird will benefit from this I think. The last two games have put an end to the dodgy run recently, so if we can beat Dumbarton on Saturday ( not an easy task) we are back on track. Only down side of last night was driving home and having to avoid a yak which was being pursued by a polar bear. It was that cold !

    Here’s a report
We took the lead with an Ian McShane penalty on the 52nd minute.  They lost the plot a bit and Vigurs got sent off with 10 minutes to go. Our fans were brilliant and sang the team home, Gavin Reilly sealed it near the end.

I genuinely can’t explain how good our support was, ridiculously loud, the team came to us at full time to show appreciation.

    Love our club.

Fux sake, the negativity from some people!
It's a difficult draw, a very difficult draw, but not a bad one.  First thing you want as a supporter in the cup is an away day against a team not in your league.  Done - a good stop for chips & beer in Stonehaven and then on to the game.
Should be a crowd of about 13,000?  Half of that is a decent bit of cash banked.
The game is on the 20th January, Aberdeen have three weeks off prior to the game.  That's long enough for them to get rusty - we have seen it plenty of times when the top league comes back from a winter break and gets put out the cup by a lower league side.  Give me competitive games against Dumbarton and Inverness any day over a break in Tenerife as preparation.
Our front line can cause anyone problems, there's no reason to think we can't go up there and get a coupe of goals.  It would seem the defence has come a long way since that shambles at Patrick Thistle in the League Cup, with big Harry Davis back now I expect we will get stronger.
On our day we can beat any team in Scotland except Celtic, and even at Parkhead we have shown we can compete.  Off our day we can ship a load of goals against anyone as well.  Lets just travel in hope and see what comes.  We certainly have nothing to do be scared of, and these are the type of games you need to win at some point if you are going to win the cup.

Reading this thread sends shivers down my spine. I have a friend over here in Northern Ireland who shouldn't be driving. He was a spoiled boy who used to do some racing in the 50's. I believe he took delivery of the first MGA over here in 1955. He still has it .It's a belter. Driving licences for over 70's here have to be renewed every three years and two years ago he managed to get his renewed a bit early because he was about to have laser eye surgery. It was reasonably successful but his licence is soon due for renewal and I am dreading the thought that he gets it. He is a good driver and tends to drive too slowly at times but that can be almost as bad as driving too fast. I've often been in his car when an overtaking driver blares his horn like hell while staring indignantly at my friend  while giving the v sign and not even looking ahead. It's nightmare stuff. And he has this habit of stopping for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I encourage him not to drive in the dark but I know he sometimes does. He will be 90 in March and his licence is due for renewal around then. I know what I should do but don't know what I will do. He is a close friend. He would feel emasculated without his licence. And yes, I would feel absolutely hellish if he is in an accident. I would also feel hellish if I derive him of one of the few pleasures in life left to him. I know he will never be involved in a high speed crash and that affords me some comfort.
