Lex got a reaction from WDR in St Mirren V Celtic League Cup Semi Final
Massive credit to Danny, Tommy and the players, easily our best result for a generation. To win we had to have every one of our players motivated and playing to the maximum of their ability, that is a big ask, but we got it yesterday.
Danny took a huge gamble selection wise but it certainly paid off and he can be very proud of the part he played in the victory yesterday.
It's hard to single out individual players for praise, they were all fantastic. However, it's hard to ignore the presence and the performance of Thompson. He secured life long legendary status yesterday, we will be talking about him and his goal for generations. If it were up to me I'd give him the keys to the football club and the freedom of Paisley.
We can go into the final comfortable and confident in our status as under dogs. If we play anywhere near as well as we did yesterday I'm sure there will be silver wear coming back to Paisley.

I honestly thought that my emotions would be in check today but alas no.
Casting my mind back to the last final and my dear Mother dying a few days before the game
Her funeral was due to take place the day after the final and my Brother was insistent that we go to the game.
We did go and took my Daughter and Nephew and I can honestly say that we just stared ahead for the whole game not really taking it in.
It felt like She was saying to me yesterday that this time I can enjoy the final, however we have now got to deal with my Wife being made redundant and cash being tight. That's my trip up now taking a back seat. Or so I thought.
I'm sitting reading all these posts and my wife whispers gently in my ear " you have to go, we'll be alright" and the emotion starts again.
I know that football isn't really that important but today it feels like it has allowed me to be in touch with my feelings and now I'm planning flights and time off with a sense of privilege and disbelief. Jesus I feel about 5!

We just need to believe. If we believe we can do this. Danny needs to get the players to believe.
They are playing well. The only thing that will stop us going through is if they stop believing.
How good is Goncalves by the way? What a player.
Come on you Saints.

A lovely day today, I've been clicking madly on the "Like This" button for hunners of posts on here!
The same as many posters, I'm outside the UK , so finally I may be able to show the locals on March 17th, yes my team do actually exist, here they are in a CUP FINAL, having beaten Champions League team CellicFC to get there!
Today's performance showed both spirit and self-belief, hopefully this will be carried forward for the remainder of the season.
Gotta love Esmael "Goal-A-Game" Gonçalves!

Not sure i get your point there. I'm sure we both agree that Danny will be deciding our game plan at the weekend. Are you suggesting that his thinking will be bound by some kind of historical directive about how we ' normally ' play in semi finals?
Of course Celtic have far better players than us and will beat us comfortably 9 times out of 10. We'll need to catch them on an off day aswell as playing to our maximum potential if we are going to have a chance of going through.
I believe the strategy that would give us the best chance of progression would be to keep it very tight for as long as possible and try catch Celtic out on the break or from a set piece. Pretty much the same strategy as we had at Parkhead recently and that Celtic had at the Nou Camp.
There is a fashion for fans and the media to say before these games that St Mirren should ' come and have a go ' etc etc. If we do that we will almost certainly be turned over.
I don't remember any of these supposed experts ( yes you Murdo McLeod ) urging Celtic to go and have a go in Barcelona. That performance was hailed as a piece of tactical genius by Neil Lennon in which they were unfortunate to leave with nothing. They put 11 men behind the ball and hoofed the ball clear for 90 minutes and scored from a set piece.
We do the same at Parkhead and are dismissed as anti football and the worst side Celtic have played this season blah blah. The truth is we were very much in that game until the 83rd minute. Certainly a lot more so than Hearts and Dundee United were in their recent trips to Celtic Park.
Having a go at Celtic on Sunday may seem like the noble thing to do before the match. It certainly won't seem as noble if we are 3-0 down after half an hour. The truth is if we do open up what little chance we have of going through diminishes to pretty much zero. The strategy which maximises our resources and our small chance is a well organised defensive one with Thompson on his own up front.
I'm sure Danny realises this and i'm sure we will see those tactics deployed on Sunday.

I expect Danny will play a similar game plan to the one he did at Parkhead last month. He defended his strategy after the match and correctly pointed out that they created very few chances and both of their goals came from set pieces.
Celtic have scored 8 goals in their last two games, both against teams better than us. If we open up and ' have a go ' there is a good chance we will be humped 6 or 7 nil, no one wants that kind of humiliation.
We need to keep it tight and frustrate them as long as possible. If we concede in the first 20 minutes we may aswell go home as the game will effectively be over. The longer the game remains at 0-0 the more nervous and agitated Celtic and their fans will become and the more chance we will have.

Same as any other player... Getyirseltaefcuk Goncalves, it's similar to Getyirseltaefcuk McAusland, Getyirseltaefcuk Robertson, or Getyirseltaefcuk Imrie. Some of the West Bank clientele will pick it up in jig time.

Looks a decent enough signing, good to see a young player come in on loan who's already had first team experience.
Here's hoping he is a success. Come off the bench to score the winner on Sunday?

Ronaldo has summed it up for me. Week in week out we are far too soft, and give every team far too much respect. We need to get in their faces, snap at them and show that we have 11 guys who are willing to fight for the cause and progress. Anything other than an aggressive performance will likely leave us 2 or 3 down at half time and out of the cup.
Get stuck into them Saints!
