Still far from sure about this but it seems to be marginally better than the alternative(s).

As i said before the split...It's one thing winning when there's no pressure, it's another thing winning when it matters. It mattered before the split, it doesn't really matter now.
If only we had produced these kind of results and performances when the chips were down....who knows where we'd be now. Certainly we'd have at least 1 Hampden appearance in the bag.
Hopefully the manager can turn relatively meaningless victories into meaningful ones next season

More fool you then. A £500K budget would get you a lot of friends, and its friends that provide value. Competitive tendering doesn't work and framework agreements offer even less value. All you do is push up the cost of the sale as all the bidders bung that on to their price as well as your own internal costs fannying around making your selection. You need to make friends with suppliers you like - once they are friends and know that there is a relationship there it will allow them to be keener with their pricing.
When it all goes pete tong for you, you will be looking to get help form people that you have not treated as your friend. People that will know that you will happilly end the relationship to save a couple of quid. That's not the best way to manage your business relationships. Trusted partners and long term relationships is what works. I've sold to many people over the years and the ones that last longest in their roles are the ones that build tight, trusting relationships with their suppliers.
Tendering may make you feel important, it may make you feel as if you hold all the aces...in reality it makes you a fool wasting everyones money - mainly from the budget you are responsible for. I'd sack you for it.

It's clearly not your own money.
Most proper businessmen (i.e. those who make their own money) know that people prefer to do business with people.
    Networking is everything.
I would NEVER give business to someone I didn't know.
I would be especially worried about giving someone else's £500k away to people I didn't know.
Sadly the world is full of MBA's prepared to spend other people's money by following other people's business models.
    ETA:
You got me started on this grrrr.
What do you do when you need your car fixed?
Arrange 3 quotes in sealed bids and then set your own T&C?
Or do you pick up the phone and ask a mate who to recommend?
Almost no jobs are advertised ever.
Interviews at most of the very top jobs are by invitation only. They are generally NOT announced.
I could go on but I hope the point is made.
If you really are in charge of that amount of money you need to start doing your job properly.
I'm betting you work for a council.
Maybe that's why budgets ALWAYS overrun. You keep giving money to people you don't know and guess what - they lie to you to get the gig.

Is the benefits of business exposure and the rest for ' life '?. The brochure says:
    87club membership...
    • Membership of the 87club costs £3000, and gives life membership of the 10000hours CIC plus the exclusive benefits listed below
Not exactly clear. If it is for life it's a great price, if not or some kind of annual subscription is required then I'm not so sure.
