  1. Yes it is a stableford. Gowfer's always differ in opinion on what course is the best. Paisley happens to be my favourite and Renfrew my least!!! The noise from the scrapyard coupled with the aeroplanes that only seem about 30 foot above do nothing to enhance my enjoyment of the long straight and somewhat repetitive fairway's the Renfew has to offer. That said we all differ as otherwise we would all be members of the same club. Paisley is a fine choice of venue. Local team supporting local course and all.
  2. Glad that you young gowfer's are "hooking up" so to say. I shall of course see you there as I am also donning the plus four's that day and taking to the fairway's for a day of play, socialising and banter with some fellow Buddie gowfer's. May I urge young Tam M above to cut out his fears of playing on a proper course aside and to attend and enjoy this unique day, a unique day indeed. I for one will not be looking to win anything but will "drink in" the atmosphere, "eat up" the competition and "rift" the banter. It is also my intention to take full advantage of the bar facilities on offer at the 19th hole. Anyway to any fellow Buddies who are still "thinking about it", stop your nonsense and get this booked...........the success of ventures such as this depend on your participation and without such participation such ventures will not ne repeated. It is an event like this that sets our club apart as a real community club, now who is joining me at the bar?
  3. I do hope so Bulto, I hope so dear Bulto indeed. Wonderfully worded as ever my wonderful wordsmith forum friend, wonderfully worded indeed.
  4. I thought that was me but then I realised that those are not my curtains!
  5. Nonsense. In life you will encounter some things that you do not like and you will encounter hardship's. Deal with it and stop being so sensitive, Man up my easily offended forum friend, man up somewhat!
  6. As interesting as this debate is as someone who is not qualified in any field of science I will avoid the global warming side of this debate. To return to the point that was intended for discussion I will say YES. In fact I will be treating the current wife to a meal this very evening and if polar bear is to be found on the menu then I shall order it with a side helping of chips (medium rare, the meat not the chips). As an avid meat eater I will try almost any meat in order to establish if it is to my liking. Here are some meat feasts that I will try if the opportunity arises Penguin Lion Tiger Leopard (the snow leopard would have to be rare) Emu Rhino Elephant and so on. Does anyone have any description of what bear actually tastes like? I would wager a shilling or two that the steaks would be lovely and red. I wonder what dodo tasted like?
  7. Thank you for the unwarranted and unwelcome insult. I shall reply with the term "there is no fool like an arrogant fool". I can do this all day you know! You are being far too sensitive and tree huggery. One of the wonder's of our modern democratic society that people of my generation and before gave up so much to protect is the right to free speech. I find this tendancy to label anyone who is a supporter of Ukip as a racist quite tragic and unfair. Quite frankly you have to take a look at yourselves as it is the people labelling other's as "racist" without justification who are in fact the ones peddling hatred. Personally I find the Labour party far more offensive than Ukip or indeed anyone and I am allowed to because I live in a demcoracy and enjoy free speech. I still do not accept that the term as it was used in the context by the man whose name I am now deliberately not reading was indeed racist. Labelling someone as a racist is a very serious accusation and one that should not be made lightly. Indeed those who do so are hate filled and dangerous themselves and should be treated with the contempt that an established racist is. Racism is wrong but so is accusing people of it without justification. Once again I agree with the sentiments made in the speech. In my country I have witnessed the demise of many libraries, public toilets, casualty depts, bus services, dental care, community health care services, post offices and the such like. The standard of living in my country has been reduced somewhat and the future of our young generations does indeed look bleak, look bleak indeed! As such the setiment's of the speech were made in a way that brought such a relevant issue into the public domain. A good speech well made! As for the term "Bongo bongo land" . Was it ill advised? Probably Was it racist? No Stop being so quick to label anyone and anything as racist. I agree that our current immigration policy is far too easily abused. Is that a valid political viewpoint or racist right wing doctrine? If you think the latter then you are indeed deluded and as well as being a little bit stupid you are also far too easily offended and filled with hatred yourself.
  8. You have failed to explain why you think this man is a racist! The politician involved (I do not know his name and I cannot be bothered finding out) has made a remark that, whilst being unusual in respect of the language used has resulted in many people discussing the issue that he was addressing. If anything that would indicate that his speech was a success. I actually agree with his sentiment that our tax monies should not be used to provide foreign aid to countries that many of our own citizens will not be familiar with when we are facing financial cuts in our own health care, policing, education and other services. The man has made a fair point. I simply fail to see why the phrase "bongo bongo land" can be construed as racist when we do not know what particular nation he was addressing and as such we do not know the race of the people that are native to the country that we cannot identify. We are all becoming far too sensitive. if Germany was to start another war with us and we all lived under the constant threat of invasion then you would have something real to worry about. If this is all it takes to upset people in our society then our lives must be brilliant, brilliant indeed.
  9. I agree that we do need additional players who can play in those positions, I agree indeed. However I do not just want any old centre half or any old striker, I do not want that at all. If our Mr Lennon was to go out and panic buy then we could end up with two players of the standard of a Lewis Guy and one of a John Potter. No I do not want that at all. As any supporter of the Paisley heroes would wish for, I hope for a right good centre half and two cracking strikers. Then again I have spent my life wishing for such things, such things indeed!
  10. It is very warm of a night. I am experiencing difficulty sleeping and my knackers are always sweaty. Long live summer!

  11. I am not entirely sure what the original poster is actually trying to say here but I assume that he/she is somehow unhappy at Scots law and how it is used to keep spectators safe at our football matches. The picture of the yobbish fans on the playing surface in an English football match does serve to show that in England at least the law is not always protecting the players., officials and spectators as well as it could be. That said it is glaringly obvious that in Scottish football we do not seem to suffer the same levels of loutish behaviour at our football matches. This to me serves to illustrates that the laws being applied at Scottish football matches would appear to be working, working well indeed. In my day alcohol was always the major problem at football matches (as it is in many other areas) and more often than not was a major contributing factor in any crowd trouble that would occasionally flare up. Bottles of tonic wine and lager cans filled with urine would occasionally be thrown into a crowd or even at a player or two. Since alcohol has been banned from football I must say that a dramatic improvement has occurred and football is now a safer and more pleasant place for it. We only have to look at the recent trouble at the Glasgow cup final between the scummiest football supporting shower of filth on this very planet to see that violence can still occur at matches involving our beloved national sport. Stopping these halfwits drinking during the match is clearly the smart move. We in Scotland can be proud that our authorities have acted in such a successful and proactive way to ensure our safety. The quality of our football may be poor but the safety we enjoy will be difficult to surpass. Scottish football has got something right. Let us proclaim our success and use it to "sell our sport"!
  12. That may be your opinion and you are perfectly entitled to it. The Renfrewshire area is blessed with many gowf courses and an individual's preference is entirely subjective. Personally I prefer the course to all the other's. Member's of other courses will say the same about the club where they play. If we all liked the same things then we would all do the same things. I do take issue however when someone purporting to support the Saint Mirren professional football club pte ltd co (and by assumption should have only the best of wishes for the club at heart) would post such an unhelpful comment on a public forum. This initiative highlights two major positives in my mind 1) The willingness of the club to engage in such a venture with the fans shows that we can be very proud of the community nature of the club. 2) The priceless commitment of average fans of our little club who actually take the time out from (presumably) busy lives to arrange such a venture for the benefit of other fans and in the end raise funds for our clubs youth development. I question your motives as such a post can only harm this venture and by extension could prevent valuable funds being raised for the youth development. Personally I hope you have posted without thinking and you are not deliberately trying to harm the fortunes of our club. My own view is that even if the gowf were to be played at a venue I did not like I would certainly not openly post my subjective but negative view as I genuinely hope that every venture undertaken for the benefit of our club proves to be an overwhelming success. After all I do have only but the best of wishes for the fortunes of our club!
  13. Yes that it. Pour scorn on a really good initiative organised by football fans who not only care about the club but actually do something about it. I am just back from Paisley bushes as it is where I play my gowf. The course is in great condition. Comments like that only make it more difficult for the decent and caring fans to help the club as they planned to. You are now getting a derisory shake of my head!
  14. I shall be looking out the old hickory clubs for Sept 6th. Do we still use feather balls?

  15. This gowf event has been buzzing round my old mind all day. What a fine event to have, a fine event indeed. The £70 fee for the gowfing Buddie is likely to be affordable to most Paisley gowfers (although at that price it is in the "treat" bracket but what a treat indeed) and this will afford you the opportunity to actually spend a day with our heroes, play gowf with one of them, participate in some friendly competition via the stableford scoring format and In the presence of the league cup then enjoy a meal whilst indulging in some post gowf banter with players and fellow gowfers alike! On top of that Buddies who participate will be helping to raise money for youth development at the club. An event like this goes to show what a a real community club we are. I am also pleased that with the event being at Paisley bushes gowf club we are not only supporting our local football club but our local gowf club. Really impressed by this event, impressed indeed. I once played bowls against my all time favourite player (Mr Dan McGarry circa 1984, he beat me) and I can testify to the fact that such an occurrence never leaves ones memory, never leaves indeed!
  16. I have been giving this a little thought time as I often do of a day, pondering if you like. This golf day seems like a cracking day out. You arrive at 9am to get your breakfast roll and coffee (I like breakfast rolls and coffee) You get to meet the entire St Mirren private ltd co first team playing squad (and I assume the management team as well) Presumably you will be able to get plenty of photographs taken with the team and the league cup Yet get a round of gowf (I like gowf). You get your dinner and you will get to eat it in the presence of the St Mirren private ltd co first team playing squad. A signed cup final top is up for raffle. The day raises money for youth development. Make a good present for someone. I am going to get the current wife and show her this thread.
  17. I was just pottering about the interweb there and I found this fans council website. Now it would appear that there are a coupe of functions coming up. These being a golf day and a re-visit of the league cup final. Did anyone else know about this and who is going? I quite fancy both http://www.supportsmfc.co.uk/
  18. If I may be as bold as to expand on that for you Our team does not need much, just the following 1) Solid and dependable goalkeeping 2) Solid and dependable defending 3) Fullbacks who, as well as defending can push up the park and assist the midfield/attack 4) A creative midfield that is not frightened to track back and defend when the occasion arises. 5) A good ball winner in midfield that can also pass a ball 6) A left winger who can take on a fullback and cross a decent ball 7) Strikers who can work well together, drag opposition defences out of position, win balls in the air, win balls on the ground and as previously mentioned, score goals. That is only 7 small points. Not far away at all fellow forum user's, not far away at all!
  19. Should I remove faraway Saint from my ignore list or carry on with my improved forum experience? Answers on a postcard please

You have persuaded me.....I shall continue to ignore, erm whats his name?

  20. You have my full agreement mon Shull, I would also assert that this thread has ran its course. It is now being used as a vehicle for the internet troll that is behind the name Saints0 to peddle his urine. If I were a trusted moderator of this fine forum I would have closed it before now and did something really clever whereby no-one ever see's the posts made by this troll fellow so the troll himself does not realise and just thinks he is being ignored to the point that he eventually goes away. Have I just had a clever idea?
  21. Now "Our Ken" this may be beyond you but judging from the quality of the thread that you have started I would wager that not much in a footballing sense is. At the imaginary and much fabled Black & White Army annual awards dinner I would very much like to nominate this very thread for the category of "Thread of the year". This is simply the most important subject in modern Scottish football and topics raised in this the "thread of the year" hilight the very issues that the Scottish Football Association along with the Scottish Amateur Football Association should be identifying and attempting to address. Football in many countries has improved (and that is a good thing) but unfortunately our little but great nation has somewhat stood still or even wandered backwards. Great read this thread, think I shall read it again, read it again indeed!
  22. Ah the quote of the immature non Saint Mirren professional football club pte ltd co supprting internet troll. The claim that this is the "wost St Mirren team EVER" has actually made me laugh and also brought back some very, very unpleasant memories. From now on I would urge all forum user's to completely ignore your input on this forum as it has no credability or substance. You will likely join Faraway Saint on my ignore list. Ignore list's are very useful and certianly enhance one enjoyment of the forum, enhances it indeed! To sum up "Ignore this fellow and lets get on with the constructive and enjoyable conversation that we were having". Also I would like to add how pleased I was at the performance of all of our young players against a strong Newcastle side. Thomas Reilly and John McGinn immediately stand out but when thinking of it in more detail they all did well. More so than last week I see promising times ahead, promising times indeed!
  23. Having read your post I am having some difficulty in marrying your forum user name with the content of your post. If I may hilight the issues that have driven me to a derisory shake of the head 1) No "Truesaint" or proper fan of the Saint Mirren professional football club pte ltd co would openly berate our own players on a public forum in such a manner. Such behavioiur is both unwarranted and unwelcome. 2) You assertion that "Vanzy" is not of the required quality may well be your opinion. My opinion differs somewhat in that after a realtively mild pre-season for him in terms of his own performance levels we, the fans of the club, know that young David is a better player than he has recently shown and his form is certian to return. 3) Your assertion that "Goodwin" is an old slow player is also quite unfair and counter productive. My opinion differs again from yours in that I think that our James is actually more mobile than most who play in the centre half position. I agree however that he is not a natural centre back and I would prefer a different option. That said his performances in that position last season were actually rather good and a major contributing factor in our league cup success. 4) Why would you assert that "McGregor" is short of fitness? Whilst I am aware that he has returned from not one, but two career threatening injuries (much to his credit it really has to be said) he has enjoyed (or rather endured) a full pre-season fitness programme along with his colleagues and team mates. He may require some extra game time but when the season commences that will prove to be an easy fix. I for one am very glad to have Darren McGregor back and I wish him a fruitful and injury free season. 5) "McAusland who makes too many mistakes". I mean really? Young Marc McAusland has matured into the best centre half currently at our club. If it were not for him last season I really do expect that our beloved team would have been relegated in the midst of the great centre half shortage of 2012. As all young players he did make mistakes when first thrust unto the throes of first team action. He no longer makes mistakes with such regularity and any proper football fan could not fail to see that. I absolutlely and resolutely reject your sorry and ill-informed comments about one of our team most important players. If we also consider that he is indeed a true Buddie in every sense of the word then I must damn your comments in the strongest sense. Damn them indeed! 6) "Danny Grainger is a welcome addition to the club". In this at least we do agree, agreement indeed!
  24. I see your point my forum friend I see your point indeed. I must ask though, why lie to the lad? Would it not be fairer if the game had been played in a flat atmosphere, so flat that the player himself could hear the constant stream of abusive remarks aimed at him. At the end of the day he would at least know what is letting himself in for!!!!!
  25. I will say this my fellow forum friend. You have certainly made this forum of ours a more entertaining place over the close season. Many poster's spout constant and unfunny gibberish whilst some go a bit mad and mentally implode (a certain distant forum user had more than a small bark at the moon). You at least have provided a constant stream of entertainment. Well done my rumour mongering forum friend, well done indeed!
