Born and raised in Linwood (don't judge me) left there 31 years ago and moved around a fair bit. In Dumfries now and still a lifelong Bud. First game I was at was Jim Blair's debut.

Agree with most of this and the point of the original post, if not the detail. Rae managed to get a few points points with this squad - nowhere near good enough but a hell of a lot better than Ross has managed. Furthermore, Rae managed two wins from his first three games and that was before he'd had the chance to sign someone.
It amazed me how quick some fans were to say Ross would need to be allowed to build his own squad and the like. He was appointed with the best part of three months to go until the transfer window opened! Folk were effectively writing that time off and you could be forgiven for thinking the club has too given the results since we changed manager!
I agree with a lot of the changes Ross has made. He's changed goalie (although I'm not convinced about either of them), he's ditched Hutton and he's brought in some youngsters who have proven to be better than the experienced heads they replaced. Some things haven't been his fault such as being unable to get a settled defence due to injuries, players being cup tied (mind you, it was him that played Gordon at Alloa) and now suspensions. However, there's other things I find odd such as persisting with Clarkson and then replacing him with Shankland every single time.
Anyone that thinks January is going to magically change things is in for a rude awakening. Who is going to want to come to us that's going to be good enough to make a difference? And any player that does is going to want a fortune. They probably won't be match fit either as they'll be out of contract or out of favour at their current club. No doubt we'll be told to write off January too so that Ross can build his squad and get them to gel.
Depending what happens over the next few weeks, I'd be half tempted to tell the management not to bother making changes in January. Accept we're in an impossible situation, save the cash and blood youngsters who'll be regular starters when we're in League One next season. We're almost certainly going down but that approach would have us in far better shape than wasting money telling the current players to piss off and spending more on new players only to be relegated anyway.
Of course that'll never happened and I'll probably be branded a traitor and accused of treason for even suggesting it.

It would be good to hear from someone who was at the game.  Were we comfortably in front before Baird's red card?  Given our performances this season, and taking the respective managers' experience into account, would we have definitely taken 3 points with 11 men?
    Just asking.

Aye, shocking disciplinary record.  You'd think he would have learned some restraint from former team mates like Goodwin.......

Read the posts about him.  OK he was stupid at best, but to talk about punting him because of this (and we don't know why he punched Miller) is a total overreaction.  If we got shot of every player who has cost us a result this season, we would have nobody left.

So, it seems we've found this season's hate figure in Jack Baird.  Get a grip folks. There have been many worse performers in the team over the last 6 months.

Leave Jack Baird alone he's a young boy with a lot of passion.
People like Hutton and Langfield have made worse mistakes.
Our past legends Abercrombie and Goodwin got lots more red cards.

Hmmmmm. Don't like the thinking trend here bud.
The club has an obligation , sorry a duty, to do absolutely everything that it can to get a scheduled game on. It owes the fans that at the very very very least, irrespective of the quality of game that follows. Hey hoh, let the buyer beware.
However if we are starting to maybe hedge on our commitments to fulfilling scheduled fixtures cos we have a dodgy pitch protection system or an expensive repair looming, then we really are in dangerous waters. For me that's a real low if that is even being contemplated.
I understand the whole USH white elephant farce in the wider shambles that is Scottish football, but if as a club we are consciously weighing up dodging our duties to commit fully to getting a game on then the place really is in a worse state off the park than I could have dared to fear. So potentially the club could find that a prolonged cold spell could see games off every other week !!
    Does not auger well

If we were aware of the state of the USH system for some time and have done nothing about it, I would expect a hefty fine from the SFA.

Hold on a wee minute. Get rid of Ralston? Ralston a drain on finances? Install a synthetic surface at the dinkydome? The USH is broken?

Erm, I thought when we sold our spiritual home and moved to a 'state of the art' modern stadium and had a much-trumpeted dedicated training facility that only the OF and Hibs could match that it meant the following. A bright future where our new found facilities and no debt would see us push on in Scottish football and be able to attract better players due to the lure of our shiny new surrounds.

What happened? Don't tell me we were lied to? Or failing that, the want-away, up-for-sale, old selling consortium right royally fcuked-up their previously decent 'balance the books' record at Love Street. Hmm. Clubs in deep shite like Dundee and Motherwell with multiple administrations are in the top flight in their traditional stadiums. We are talking about Ralston being a stone dragging us down and playing in a shoebox that no-one likes much any more with fcuked USH.

I agree , even if it was mentioned in The accounts it should have been repaired . Who's job is it to get this done ? Jack Ross ? Fowler ? The lady who serves the tea in board room ? No this surely is a Board problem and GS has to explain this mess to us . He knows full well that he will require a lot of money soon and he's just not coming forward and being honest . Fowler was getting pelters for putting adds up for players !!! THE GUY IS SHOWING SOME INITIATIVE AND TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS JOB REMIT WHICH INVOLVES SINGNING PLAYERS . Why is he getting stick and GS walks away again free of any criticism ?

Just a thought...if the issue with the undersoil heating (USH as everyone on this here little forum likes to call it) is that of money (it usually is) then why dont we just fix the bloody thing?

Smisa could dip into their cash reserves, fix the bloody thing  and bill Gordon Scott who in turn can remove the amount from the future purchase price.  Easy peasy.
Such an approach could also be used for any maintenance required at Ralston etc.  Smisa would feel useful again, the club gets slapped into ship shapeness pronto style, Smisa are that bit closer to the "dream", the club benefits hugely and the clearly unimportant season ticket holders and matchday fans need not be just as embarrassed by the club.

We need to stop talking about this lack of confidence nonsense. The sad truth is the team are rightly at the bottom of the league because the majority of our players are not good enough for this league.
