  1. The bands charge it as they can - simple. If people never paid it, they couldn't charge it and yes paying a hundred quid for a couple of hours of entertainment seems crazy.... then again we could go to the cinema. As it happens I did / am actually trying to get the fleetwood mac tickets and from 9 this morning the ticketmaster site has been saying no tickets, try get me in, where of course you pay even more. Something really stinks here.
  2. Why would a parent but a ticket for themself and child in different transactions? Or were tickets completely random in the same transaction? If so, then fair play, that's just stupid. Why stand at any ground when there is a seat? It just gets in the way of people that want to sit / kids.
  3. Is it not about time people removed the divide and simply did what was right? Cheats at the top and cheats at the bottom need to pay their contributions whatever they are. Tax avoidance loopholes need closed. Poll tax cheats need to cough up too simple. Turning this debate into an us Vs them style debate does no good but that's what is happening here and in some ways mirrors the referendum debate. This tax dodgers charter of Salmond's could prove very popular to some, and a fatal blow to his party for law abiding people of this country. My own family suffered quite severe financial pain during the late 80s early 90s. They paid the poll tax. While my Mum thought the tax was wrong (I don't btw, I think it was fair) she paid, she was legally obliged to do so.
  4. So it seems Alex Salmond wants to rush in laws to stop the collection of these dues. Seems odd that we can pick and choose what to pay regardless of what is thought of it, hmmm, should I avoid this years tax return as I don't think it's fair? I'll assume if these taxes are written off then refunds will be offered to those that paid. Its only fair after all and that's the name of the game it seems. Thank goodness we never got independence of this is what like the laws we would be pushing through!
  5. Bitter together may be more suited to the Yes side now? Come on buddy, hope for the best! Had Yes won I'd be hoping to god they got it right not for years of pain in order to get my ideal across.
  6. Personally I don't get this argument. Some crow on and on about this yet are quite happy to be bound to Europe, happy to let Europe dictate fiscal policy and the all important IR rate for mortgages! the world is a small place these days, we send representation to London to represent us, they could sit on the moon as far as I'm concerned (costs permitting of course). I'm sure the people in the highlands really feel more connected to the building in the royal mile as they do an extra hour extra away in London. Anyways, I lived in Edinburgh for 6 years and they hated Weigies (couldn't actually believe the hatred, nasty banter directed to the west and that was in a multi national IT company!) so thoughts of one cosy Scotland are wrong.
  7. Wasn't it really just the 16-> 18 yr olds that made the young vote look good? The young ones that have properly started working etc 18 up actually rejected it? Also, the next crew of pensioners actually voted No as well quite significantly, the 55-64 yr olds. The only compelling group for Yes were the 25-34 yr olds. TBH, the arguments will have moved on by the time the next one happens (I'd guess > 15 yrs time) so making assumptions about any age group is wrong form either side!
  8. Ohhhh tricky situation buddy! You could do what my Dad did... let me make up my own mind but I was not allowed anywhere near old firm :-) Seemed like a fair approach to me.
  9. Very much so - what do they want, keep having votes every 30 years in order to get the result THEY want and then, when the get it put the issue to bed forever? Mind, if the next vote is in 30 years time the oil will be drying up so not sure what will pay for the milk and honey?
  10. How many people that actually voted no did so on the "vow". I personally think this is being overhyped and think it was in the Yes side's game plan in the event of a No vote. I heard them on the BBC show ~6am on the result day saying that they only lost due to the extra powers coming to Scotland. I really don't buy it, the "Vow" was a bit of panic reaction very late in the day when some of the polls got down to 50/50.
  11. Didn't TC say at the smisa Q&A that he was needing "rested" ?
  12. Couldn't have said it better myself - spot on. It was Men V Boys last night.
  13. Really liked that tune bud - missed this thread first time round but will be downloading the EP for a listen. Keep up the good work.
  14. Was referring to the person on the TV show and any other people that play the town down when they don't know all the facts, haven't stepped a foot in the town etc. I remember organising the anual trip to the Paisley beer festival in work (in a Glasgow based company) and the new start replies all with the same old tired lines of "I hope the glasses are plastic, do you get free smack" etc - it's this kind of talk I was referring to bud.
  15. It’s utterly laughable and a tad bigoted the view some have of Paisley. I lived in Edinburgh for years, was originally from Paisley but moved there for work, and when moving back to the West for work/family we considered a lot of options, be close to the wife’s family in Bearsden, be close to mine in Paisley and lots of other options in between! My wife and I carefully summed up the pros/cons and were (and still are) delighted to have moved to Paisley! The housing stock itself is GREAT you can get a fantastic buy for your money (probably thanks to said bigots (cheers Mrs from the show ;-) ) ) . If you think about the areas in Paisley itself (not to mention its fine surrounding towns/villages) then you have a massive collection of housing to suit all tastes from the nice starter homes to the more sizeable family homes. We love the facilities the town has off top of my head I came up with this non exhaustive list: Town centre – some big shops / some wee shops / most big banks / travel agents etc Restaurants – lots – tapas / Italian / chipies / pizza / Chinese / Indian / cafes / etc etc Facilities – Sports centres / swimming pools / various classes at various times Clubs for kids – soccer stars / bookbug / pace / panda club / etc etc Library & Museum & Observatory (1 of 4 public in UK!!) & Town Hall Town events – Fireworks / Fire engine ralley / xmas lights / singing kettle etc Cinemas * 2 Brahead – 10 mins max Silverburn – 15 mins Glasgow – 15 mins Train – 10 min walk M8 – 2 mins Largs / west coast / west highlands – 30 mins! Housing stock – almost any dwelling and any price / leafy areas (cricket park/Ralston/Elderslie) / new builds / old builds and twice as much space for your money than other areas The reputation the town had is changing but a few bigots will remain steeped in the tabloid headlines from the 90’s, to those people - enjoy the superiority complex, to the rest of us that live here – enjoy your town.
  16. Odd, I have found myself in agreement with SD for the first time ever. Regarding the summer clubs, some teachers already help out but as they are working their holiday they get double pay... you couldn't make it up.
  17. Not sure about the dislike of the west end due to the style of a few of its inhabitants. I spent 4 years at uni up there so perhaps a bit biased but generally I like it. For people saying the Glasgow city centre is better – wow - that place is crash helmet territory it’s wild at night.
  18. Your idea in some form may have some potential, the offices above the monstrosity piazza is to be turned into student digs - thats a lot of potential custom.
  19. Well done to the team for keeping at it. Bloody loved belting out some North Bank classics today.
  20. Forgot about that part of the night
  21. Some of the haunts mentioned on here were different by the time I was doing my thing out in town, was never much into the Glasgow thing, did it occasionally but my usual Thur/Fri/Sat was in Paisley. I thought of about 10 clubs during the late 90s and crazy amount of pubs catering to all styles. Thinking about the vacant buildings... Mannequin's (Templar hall) / Carnegies and the pub at the corner (Was it Bar Soba? / Tell Mamas). Bit of a wild corner and after I was 18 never really ventured back down there apart from Carnegies pre/post match. Then there was the one that became the institute, think it was the Kasbah and can't remember what it was before that. There was also a pub attached to it. Now both vacant. Shuttle street - wow that was buzzing. I remember having work mates in town from Edinburgh and they were amazed. Loved it. Really wonder what the youth do today... perhaps they're all in the gym! Where did it all go wrong, I think it's all been said, cheap booze in the supermarkets / smoking ban / other things to do.
  22. I'm really not sure where this is... bumping the pic back up as I may have steered this slightly
  23. Wondered that myself many times. My time of clubbing was mid nineties to about 2005 and there were easily 10 clubs when I started and loads of decent pubs. Really don't know what happened but there were always people from all over the place in town. Shawlands these days seems to have the nightlife now that we used to have.
