  1. Was that Bar Bossa about 2000 ? Had a restaurant bit upstairs?
  2. My Dad still calls a street of Well St Hannay St! Not sure if he's talking about Brown Street ? He also says that modelle lodge was the only shop open on a Sunday in those days... that'd be early 50s?
  3. Cheers bud - and didn't want to take this thread of track slightly but seems like good Paisley town chat in here.
  4. What a find - some interesting spellings but some well known place names. Cracker. No Hippy Chippy then ;-)
  5. As bad as any stats look league position is what determines the league you play in. Hamilton & Dundee (top of the first - championship sounds so bad) have had there chance in the SPL recently and over the course of a league season - we were better. I remember a hack in the rag that is the record saying something similar about Saints at the start of the year we actually finished 8th and played some very very good football saying we had no right to be there. Right is earned and by one way or another we earned it.
  6. That's a cracking old map... a lot of interesting things there! A canal full of water! John Street as discusse above, the gas works plant at th new ground was there in a previous guise, craigielee cottage was there, which is at the bottom of Blackstoun Oval these day think, then lookng at Albion street, it's tiny!!! and Wellington stret hadbeen chopped by that time to mk way for the railway.
  7. Cheers guys - the fish van! Remember that well, John Street... never knew that existed and the Gallow Green itself, is that where that wee well was/is?
  8. Been talking recently about what was on Broomlands Street where the entrance to Gallow Green road is... cannot think or picture it! Can remember the old King street with tenement and the woodside park but just can't think what was on the Broomlands Street entrance to Gallow Green Road. Can anyone remember?
  9. That's the one. It was really busy with cars all parked in the wee car park in front of it. Definitely hillwalker types and not workers.
  10. Thanks all. Some top tips. Appreciated buds.
  11. Took a trip to Bean & Leaf in Largs yesterday (think I burst my car in process - see another thread :-/) but noticed a lot of people walking along a fairly new footpath just past the reservoir heading towards Largs on the on the Largs road (A760). Wondered if anyone has stopped the car and taken a look to see what it's all about?
  12. Looking for some advice from fellow buds on a good / honest car garage in town to have a look at a bit of rattling developed on the clutch (when in gear / disapears when the clutch is fully down or I lightly tap it when driving). I'm worrying it's the bearings that are out and I'm pretty sure that is a big job, its on an ageing Peugeot so really not wanting to go near the official Peugeot garage and pay their labor charge. Cheers in advance.
  13. I'll add to this list, the number of traffic lights... The corner of Caledonia Street / St James St I think You can wait for ages on nothing. The junction at the racecourse. The roundabout at Linwood near ASDA.
  14. Cracking thread - quite often stuck on an odd weekend day wondering where we fancy going for a drive etc. Had some great suggestions already. I'll have a think but what springs to mind for starters: Largs - can easily be done on nice summer night - stroll from 1 to end of town pick up a chippy or stop in bean & leaf and end up at marina. Culzean castle - been a while but was a lovely building and great gardens etc and try the bottle on the electric brae!
  15. I've been careful what I've wished for here and really kept backing Danny as long as I could but the facts speak for themselves - we're in a bad way. I enjoyed the tippy tappy stuff a couple of years back, while not always successful, it was pleasant watching us play football and when it worked - it was a joy. The cup win then papered over some very deep cracks and he got the benefit of a big doubt but this season has been pure pain. I think the problem is 2 fold - the board quite clearly don't want to invest at all - the close season was a disaster - was that all Danny or was it the board, probably both tbh, the board being tight and Danny playing his cards wrong. We got rid of so many players with no guarantee of replacements, now lets face it - Sam Parkin, Lewis Guy, Douie Imrie etc were not the calibre I'd really want here but they offered depth, competition and were St.Mirren players - not loans. The January transfer window was similar, removing some players and bringing in Djemba-Djemba and to be fair the jury's still out on this one. My fear for getting rid of Danny was what will we get instead - Tommy Craig - both say they share the same philosophy on football. God help us if we replace one with another, remember the Caughlin era! Can't really see how this one will play out, lose on Sat and I think it will be hard for hom to see the season out, perform miracles and he'll get to the end of the season with a thanks for the help now on you go. The sale of the club is not helping either - total limbo land with that fans paying week in, week out to watch a distanced board provide scraps and a threadbare squad.
  16. Behave yourself! A debt free club with large fan base and huge potential.... we may struggle, it may get ugly but death... calm down dear.
  17. Wonder how recent the data is as the central way thing was something I thought had been worked on, not only the new lights in it but some altered bus routes and no idling there?
  18. The reason it was in Paisley was we stepped into help out apparently. They couldn't get permission from Glasgow for the crowds and cars. TBH, Abbey close was a perfect start for it I felt, great backdrop and the cars could easily line up in front of the abbey and round the corner in order to get a look before hand. Got a bit busy in Abbey Close itself and could have done with an embankment on the grass next to the cart facing the abbey but the crowds lined the start of the race and were in good spirits on a cold night (well done to the guys in the 80's BMW convertable with the roof down). The drivers were chatting with the crowd etc before hand with a couple of laughs coming from a push start and a nice tap on a headlight to get it back working. My son enjoyed it and I thought it was another good event in the town centre - well done for organising it, events like that are a pleasant distraction for a week day night.
  19. Really hope the lesson of the close-season has been learned where we said good-bye to Parkin, Carey, Imrie, Guy... and got little into replace them other than some panic buys.
  20. I'm getting sick of buying kits every year... I'd make an exception for that. Love it, classic black and white stripes.
  21. Hmmm, as much as they put a lot of crosses in from that side we chose to keep playing it out to the left. I thought that was to get the ball to McGinn but we struggled to get it out our half for about 15 minutes.
  22. And it's Paisley St.Mirren, Paisley St.Mirren the Sains... We're by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen.
  23. Seeing that pic of Eddie Galagher got me thinking about how many games he played for us; I remember him running riot in Ayr one night. Anyways, had a look on wikipedia and found this which brough back some memories of players from the past. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:St._Mirren_F.C._players
  24. He has? He is not the only one. While I am utterly puzzled by his team selection / tactics at times there is more to this than 1 man. Why is the board so quiet? Why no more signings pre-season? Why can't we see out a lead against thistle etc?
