  1. Was fortunate to meet Conor Newton at the training ground in Ralston not long after the final, he was a really nice guy. Solid midfielder, and the type of player that would benefit our squad right now.
  2. Absolute stonewall penalty, clear view, what was Golum doing??
  3. The amount of morons around me that can't seem to grasp that Irvine is not part of the defence here today, he's at right mid with three at the back...
  4. I'm going to get sore hands if St Mirren make me keep clapping every Saturday for nearly 2 hours! Get it sorted Jack Ross, this isn't on!!
  5. Even if it finished 7-0 Dundee Utd couldn't complain it was underserved. Utterly dominant!
  6. I like Old Ranfurly, but then I have been a member there for 27 years... I've played Renfrew a couple of times this year as my brother and a few friends play there too, played it last week. It's okay, except between late August and January you can barely find your ball if you go anywhere near the semi-rough, with the sheer volume of fallen leaves that they never clear. Also, there is pretty much no sand in their bunkers currently. Nice greens though. I like Paisley, but not played it in a few years. Actually, one that's not been mentioned yet, but I always liked Elderslie to play on.
  7. 100% agree. The way the rules and officials are going, it's virtually becoming a non-contact sport. Not every contact between players is a foul, yet it always seems to be given that way. Tackling is a core element of the game, and should not be vilified to the extent it is. I don't buy the 'it was reckless' nonsense that's often spouted literally just because the tackle was a slide tackle, and I'm saying that as someone who's had their leg broken twice by tackles on the football pitch.
  8. From the images, it definitely wasn't two footed, so that's not even a debatable point. Doesn't really look like studs were up either, though at speed it may have been difficult to tell.
  9. We have to appeal based on what those photos show. Maybe not even a foul let alone a red!!
  10. Nicholas Parsons is still going strong! [emoji3]
  11. It's definitely true that they can make a whole lot more on the marathon circuit. No doubt about that. But top level athletes at all track and field sports in Kenya can make a good living if they perform well. After the major championships (Olympic and World Championships), all Kenyan athletes are given substantial prize money for getting a medal, and a reasonable amount for making the final even if they don't get a medal. When added to other meet prize money, it is quite possible for a reasonably good Kenyan athlete (average finish 3rd place) to earn around $60k-$80k a year even without endorsements. Certainly not big money, but a reasonable living. The marathoners though indeed can treble or quadruple that. Still, Kenyans are always there or thereabouts in every distance event from 800m up to marathon.
  12. I wanted to go to the moon, but I've heard there's not much of an atmosphere... ...I'll get my coat...
  13. They had loads of time to sort it out properly, the original visit to the medic was the previous day. I'd understand if it was a last minute thing and they had to make a split second diagnosis and decision. But it wasn't, and so it quickly became apparent that the IAAF procedure is not fit for purpose. I was quite surprised at how poorly they handled the incident from start to finish. Hopefully they learn and take their responsibilities a bit more seriously and professionally in the future. They have to realise that this isn't a case of Joe Blogs being kept off of work then popping back in. This was one of the two best athletes in his field, at the peak of his career, at the world championships. This is something a top class athlete might only have the opportunity to be competitive at a handful of times, sometimes only once in their career. For this reason the IAAF have a real duty to have procedures that might result in an athlete's forced withdrawal absolutely watertight to ensure fairness for all concerned.
  14. The pundits didn't handle it well, but there is an important point here, in that the IAAF protocols in this type of situation are clearly lacking. Very shoddy and amateur from them. Whilst it is absolutely correct that a suspected case of norovirus is isolated, what they SHOULD have done does not take a rocket scientist to work out: 1. Athlete presents himself to IAAF medical personnel, gives a single account of what has happened. 2. IAAF medical staff should have immediately asked for Botswana medical personnel and athlete's direct team to attend and corroborate the version told and ascertain additional context. 3. Decision made following second opinion of additional doctor in presence of original doctor and Botswana officials. 4. Joint statement prepared, fully outlining the situation, and communicated to officials and media. Again, this really is not rocket science, it's basic, simple, fair procedure. Instead, what we got was an absolute IAAF clusterf*ck where it is crystal clear that the IAAF had a shoddy, uncorroborated account, and a lack of basic communication. So again, ultimately probably the right decision, but the IAAF are clearly incompetent with what should be a simple situation and ARE the cause of the controversy that happened as a result.
  15. Quick look through the posts, and a lot of people highlighting good performances from all over the pitch, but don't think I saw anyone mention Irvine, so I wanted to give him a mention. Personally I would have given him man of the match yesterday. He made 3 or 4 absolutely crucial interceptions, didn't let anyone past him, and was incredibly composed at the back when under pressure. He did the dirty work that complemented the more eye-catching play from McGinn, Reilly and others.
  16. If the team stay calm now that should be the 3 points in the bag!
  17. Brilliant turnaround, just need to keep working and get a third!
  18. Defence shouldn't have allowed the cross to come in, but Samson, calamity after calamity and pretty much solely to blame for that.
  19. Cheers! Don't worry, I know the island pretty well, and with relatives living here I get kept up to date with where's good and bad to eat! Was in the Criterion for a drink or two earlier, followed by the Golfers and the Struan on the way back to the house. Yeah, a good chance I'll be on the same ferry, but not certain yet.
  20. Agree with every word here. Likewise, don't really know him, but met him enough times that we know each other by face and to say hello to through Saints events / activities. He's a great guy, and knows what he's doing. Hope he comes back to the club some day.
  21. Over in Bute just now, staying until next Saturday. Heading home just in time for the Falkirk game! :-)
