  1. Yeah, it can be a bit annoying. On the other hand though, I'd personally rather we have players willing to try and beat a man than what we had earlier in the season with everyone abdicating responsibility, passing the ball, and never willing to take a shot. Either way, great win today, on to Wednesday night now!
  2. Yup, what else can they control? If they decide to offer a bet that a player will wear yellow boots, can they not wear yellow boots? Or a bet that a player will gel their hair, can they then not gel their hair? If the nature of the bet is nothing to do with potentially influencing the match result, the FA should f**k right off! ETA - are they also investigating the BBC since the keeper had literally no control over whether they chose to put it on camera? Are they conspirators in his criminal enterprise??
  3. Poor defending backing off and allowing them to get that shot in. Not surprised though.
  4. By the time I was at School in the 80s / 90s, most of the gang culture had died down (I think) a bit. I still firmly remember walking down at the old railway track (now cycle track) in Bridge of Weir, seeing graffiti noting 'Briggy Young Team', and thinking in my 7 or 8 year old mind that 'Briggy Young' must have been a person who was 'the leader of a gang'...
  5. I've completed it too. Interesting as others have said. One thing though, once completing a survey such as this it is good academic practice to have a message containing debriefing information including where to see the results of the research etc. This probably wouldn't pass through the ethics committee in my School / institution without it. So maybe a follow-up message on here for participants?
  6. I was planning on going to the game today, but got out of work too late yesterday to get tickets for my dad and myself. Still think it's crazy that clubs throw away money by not selling tickets on the day.
  7. I'll need to try and get hold of the full transcript to get the content and reasoning the dissenting opinions before making a full comment, but to at least some extent I'd expect nothing less. In my PhD thesis I had to point out some inconsistency in Supreme court judges' opinions (Baroness Hale being one), so it's certainly not new. In this particular case I'm surprised though, because to me this was a cut and dried issue with very little room for ambiguity.
  8. Correct. TT, I understand your thinking, but it can't work like that. Our membership of the EU was enshrined in an Act of parliament, and it is for parliament to amend, abolish, or replace an existing Act. If the Government is allowed to bypass the ordinary democratic parliamentary process to abolish an existing Act, it potentially opens the floodgates for them to pick and choose what other Acts they don't agree with and arbitrarily abolish them too. It would be a complete abuse / misuse of power. This Supreme Court decision was not really related to Brexit at all, it was to do with what the Government can and can't do in an attempt to undermine the formal democratic process. In my opinion the result was absolutely correct from a pure constitutional law perspective. Frankly I'm astonished that 3 of the 11 judges dissented!
  9. I'm unclear - did you like it or not? It's difficult to tell!
  10. I'm sure if I watched it now I'd think the same, but it was on when I was very young until I was in my early years at high school and at the time I loved it. Either way, RIP Gorden.
  11. Still remains to be seen if all of the new signings fit in, gel together, and improve the team in the long term, but the good thing here is that Jack and his team have recognised that what they had, regardless of improved performances, was simply not good enough, and he's been decisive in bringing an a number of new faces. He certainly cannot be criticised for inactivity during the transfer window. Now which of these replied to the LinkedIn advert... :-)
  12. I honestly haven't looked at the fine detail of the evidence, so honestly not certain. From what I can gather though, the COPFS did initially look at the case but ruled out prosecution. Knowing what I know, I can only imagine that they identified there would be serious problems with corroborating the crucial facts of the case, which would make a criminal conviction unsound. It's the only logical reason I can think of, because if that was the issue it would make (under Scots criminal law) a conviction to the standard of 'beyond reasonable doubt' impossible, but not a finding of liable to the standard of the balance of probabilities. One thing though, under legislation introduced just over two years ago (the Victims and Witnesses (Scotland) Act 2014), if a decision has been taken by the COPFS not to prosecute, a victim of a crime now has the legal right to require (not just request, but effectively the right to demand) that the COPFS decision is reviewed. IF (and it is a big if) the victim has not already played that card, then in light of the finding of the civil case, they would have the legal right to require the COPFS to take another look at the case. I'll be very interested to see how it plays out, and when I get a decent amount of time free I'll do some digging to see if I can find out anything else.
  13. It's because it wasn't a criminal prosecution, they were sued through a private civil suit, so the court doesn't have the authority to order a custodial sentence. They weren't found 'guilty' as such, and will not have a criminal conviction against their names. They were found liable to the lower, non-criminal standard of proof of the balance of probabilities.
  14. Funnily enough, my dad is exactly the same - left handed but plays golf right handed. Maybe that's why he plays off 26 and not lower!
  15. Hopefully up front with Sutton. At the end of the day, we badly need to be winning games now, setting up for a draw or being overly defensive in our outlook is no longer an option in our current position, we need to go for broke. 4-4-2 all the way!
  16. Confirmed I see! Yassss! We're going to get promoted, there's still a chance!!... *Just kidding...
  17. Will do. I know I'll be over for a week in the summer, maybe before that at some point.
  18. I think it's tricky, because whilst the experienced guys we have aren't cutting it, I do think that element is lacking and is needed. The youngsters are full of potential, and very skilful and enthusiastic, but I just am not seeing any natural leaders on the park, not one. Without actually being the specific players, we are missing a Goodwin, a Shuggy, or a Thommo. I think we definitely could use that type of player in the team, but off the top of my head I can't think who's out there that could come in and might want to...
  19. I used to play around that area a lot as a kid, my aunt and uncle owned the Clarks shoe shop on Montague street for about 20 years until it was demolished, god must be about 25 years ago now! They stayed in Shore road at Port Bannatyne. My uncle died about a year ago, but my aunt still stays on the island, in Rothesay now though, not down at the port. My cousin and her husband were both brought up on the island, and her husband's dad owned the Argyle Arms for a long time until he semi-retired a few years ago (though he still does the music at weekends and still does a weekly turn at the Glenburn). I know a good few folk on the island through all of them, and usually still spend a week or two on the island every spring or summer staying at one of the houses round toward Craigmore. Enjoy a pint in the Golfers in particular and a few of the other local watering holes!!
  20. Is that somewhere around Wyndham road at Ardbeg?
  21. It makes it easier to knock them all off of their perches!
  22. A few from different parts of Bute: Craigmore, Kingarth, Rothesay Golf Club, and the wee man at Port Bannatyne pier.
  23. A couple of mine from Loch Lomond (on different days clearly!)
  24. I get what you're saying, but a social club / club bar within a bigger business doesn't have the same standalone overheads that an individual bar or restaurant has, so the formulae you might use in analysing the success of the facility based on income is not the same. Back in 2001 - 2004 I was the general manager for a hospitality group that owned different types of facilities (bar / restaurant / hotel & retail), and the forecasting / profitability on each facility was worked out very differently, especially for hotels which had different income streams.
