  1. Indeed, us and Hibs are the only teams who have played at the top level in the last two years and we were there the longest. Our players have more experience at the top level and we have a young nucleus. We must fear no one and annihilate everyone
  2. 3-2-5, two wingers tracking back when they're not galloping up to the bylines to get the crosses in
  3. Will our budget not be set to finish one place above the playoff spot and anything else is a bonus
  4. I would also like to think that we can sign better players than Gow. Don't get me wrong, I think he will be useful net season if the team is mainly youngsters. However, we will be in the Championship and he is the calibre of player we were able to sign when we were in the Premiership so I wouldn't get too excited about the forthcoming transfer window.
  5. Championship / Cup winning top Missing the Play Offs top (up and down) Relegation top
  6. I wouldn't have said the '89 Scottish Cup side were legends. A nil nil draw at Firhill in the third round followed by a 3-1 defeat at home in the replay!
  7. I think the most important thing with the strip is to have decent width stripes and not these pin stripes, they look awful and we play shite when we have them. The other thing that hacks me off is black socks, they always make your legs look tired/slow. That's why Sir Alex had his European team play with white socks not black. Psychology works with football strips and I'm sure the stats will back me up
  8. A simple rolling monthly contract would probably have worked better then as they could have had his expertise and the new owners (ahem!) could have given him a months notice. Probably better than having a new guy on a one year contract (or was it two?)
  9. I'm sure that the way to get them to keep it going is by continuing to sing for the full 90 regardless of what happens on the pitch (you can have a quiet 5 mins each half to get a wee drink to wet your whistle). When I read the first page I was under the impression that the group wanted to sing to get behind the team to help improve performances and results. By all accounts the singing fizzled out half way through the first half. I appreciate that it's not easy to keep it up when the game is flat but I thought that was your aim. Well done for having a go anyway and I hope it continues and grows.
  10. Best way to respond to this would be to take it out on Accies on Wed night and give them a sound thrashing. That'll shut the gutter press up and reinstate a smile on my face
  11. I think a mixture of passing out from the back and blootering it into next week would work well. When we have stuck to one method it has not proved succesful over time. Take for example three seasons ago when TC arrived. We started playing the best football I have seen the Saints play since the early eighties. To begin with it worked, other teams didn't know how to play against us, then when they worked it out that method stopped producing results. Look at last season, mainly hoofing it apart from the odd time. A late surge of form and we escape the play off slot at the last minute. By mixing these two styles (having a plan A and a plan I think we would be a very difficult team to play against. When teams press us and we hoof it up to Thommo, there will be a lot of space behind their defence and when we knock it about they'll sit deep and invite us in. Simple
  12. If I was Murray and was offered the job but told who my number two was going to be I'd tell them to lump it. That's a step away from the board picking the team on a Saturday
  13. Indeed, I also fail to see how the fresh air swipe at the ball three feet away from the opponent could be regarded as "recklessly dangerous play".
  14. Who cares as long as we don't get pumped in the next three matches we are safe
  15. We'll beat Thistle tonight though so when we beat Ross County (Jim scoring the winner to get it up Adams) we'll have the forty and can relax.
  16. I actually think Hearts will hold the key as to where the others in the bottom six finish. They have turned a form side and seem to have worked out how to win being the only bottom six side not to have lost in their last three games. Out of the last six games Saints and Hearts have 7pts, Killie and Ross Co have 6pts, Thistle have 5pts and Hibs have 2pts. Based on that I think we will finish 7th and Hibs will be fighting to avoid the play off.
  17. As we budget to finish a place above the relegation slot then we will only ever be graced with players on a six month or year contract unless their wage demands are low enough to be covered in the Championship. Having said that, the players we currently have can finish 7th this season which would give the bank account a wee boost for maybe re-signing some of them. Funnily enough that would probably secure Danny a further contract and also give us our best league performance since the early 80's.
  18. If you're going into it in that much depth, were the points picked up Home or Away? How does that leave your statistics Post Split?
  19. Going by yesterdays result in Edinburgh, maybe Hearts will do us a favour and pick up points against everybody in the bottom half bar us as we go on a season ending unbeaten run and finish comfortably in 8th or 9th slot. COYS
  20. Going back to the original post, I would think that between now and the split we will be doing well to pick any points up on the basis that we are away to Inverness and home to Motherwell. Those around us however are in a similar situation ie Thistle are away to St Johnstone then home to Hearts, 3 pts maybe?, Ross County away to Celtic then home to Inverness and Kilmarnock away to Motherwell then home to St Johnstone. Let's say each of Thistle, County and Killie each pick up 3 points. The table would be Killie 33, County 33, Thistle 32 and us 27. I would take a complete guess and say we need three wins to avoid a playoff spot. I think we have more chance of winning away than at home as we seem to bottle it at home. Fingers crossed we score more than we let in over the next few weeks as I don't fancy our chances in a play off although it would be good fun like the B&Q cup final or the League cup final, maybe even the Scottish Cup final. My personal opinion of the state of the club is that we don't seem to sign anyone for longer than 6 months so there is very little continuity in the squad other than the core that have been there for a while. I think that is working against us.
