  1. Oh really, A player rated in the millions from a premier league team has fulfilled his potential when he reaches the dizzy heights of league 1 When you play roulette do choose red or black or is it both just in case What young players have arrived with a big price tag on their head and flopped ?? The only one I can think of and he's hasn't is Anders Dreyer who's with Anderlecht And don't say Josh Heaton
  2. Some amount of money he must have made on transfers & contract signings since leaving Brighton: On 6 January 2020, FC Midtjylland announced that Dreyer had returned to Denmark and signed a four-and-a-half year contract. On 28 August 2021, he signed a five-year contract with Russian club FC Rubin Kazan. On 6 July 2022, he transferred to Midtjylland on a permanent basis and signed a four-year contract. On 15 January 2023, Dreyer signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Anderlecht in Belgium. His agent must absolutely love him. He’s only 25. 😂
  3. Keep us in the League and become a hero Anders. Welcome.
  4. Not quite released by us but Anders Dreyer who some of us saw early doors was an absolute pler, is now at Anderlecht and has racked up some record between the Danish and Russian leagues before his Belgian move.
  5. TEAM NEWS - well my guess Hladky 1. Baird Popescu McGinn Muzek McGinn Flynn Lyons Mullen Duck Subs 7 from : GK :Holmes, Defence: Corbu, MacKenzie, Ferdinand Midfield: Erhahon, MacPherson, Dreyer, McAllister, Kellerman, Attack Jackson, Cooke, Assuming Flynn and McGinn they will be playing. I think that leaves Oran with only one position to decide upon. It could go to MacKenzie or Corbu or Erhahon I expect. I suspect Oran will know who might best suit playing on astro - plastic surfaces and fit with his game plan best. The GK sub is a given. If MacK has no adverse hassles from last week and he is ok on this surface, it will likely be him. That would leave Corbu, Ferdinand and Erhahon (D & Midfield) on the bench cover for defence - I'd drop Ferdinand out altogether though if we have 3 CB's playing. Other subs : McAllister if fit, if not Dreyer, and MacPherson and have Jackson but it is a tough call leaving Cooke out altogether. So I would have him before Dreyer and Dreyer only if McAllister is not fit.... unless Magennis is ready for the bench. Will he be our "joker" this week? For the first time all season we have nearly a full team fit that are available for the subs bench . . . Goals for us from a CB, a McGinn and a striker
  6. In fairness I’m not sure what the relevance of Wilbur’s view of young, 20 year old player when he was with us almost 2 years ago, has got to do with how he has developed and the player he has (possibly) become. Brighton obviously thought he was pish too. Dreyer was largely pish for us and particularly for the very deficiencies Wilbur highlighted at the time. Plenty of players have developed massively between the ages of 20 and 22. Doesn’t mean any opinion at the time was wrong. It’s not like he said “that Dreyer will never be a player”. So wind yer neck in ya pish takin git. 😁😘
  7. 13th June Gordon Scott says Oran is planning to commute "occasionally", 9th July Gordon Scott says Oran was wanting to commute "literally every day". In the same interview he says the club are unlikely to have the money required to sign Popescu but says enquiries have been made about bringing back Kyle McAllister. 13th June - Gordon Scott gives interview to STV - he would like Oran to move his family over to Scotland, but he is still planning to commute occasionally between NI and Paisley. Oran Kearney gives an interview saying he wants to resign Popescu, Dreyer, Muzek and Gary MacKenzie 14th June - St Mirren announce pre-season friendlies against Coleraine and Rosario - strange given Scott's claims about pre-season preparations happening in spite of Oran rather than involving Oran! 18th June - the meeting where Gordon Scott and Oran fall out. 21st June - the Sun has a story saying there has been a fall out and Oran's future at the club is in doubt after a disagreement about Oran's commute. 23rd June - rumours surface that Oran has been told to stay away from pre-season training despite Oran offering to take training while his own situation was being resolved. Sun football writer tweets (and later deletes his tweet) that Oran was wanting to commute daily after originally tweeting he liked Oran but spare me the notion that he had been hard done to by anyone at St Mirren 24th June - Pre-season training starts without Oran. Rumours are that Popescu will sign later in the week however. Jim Goodwin rumoured to be the favourite to take over from the not-sacked-yet Oran Kearney. Popescu is interviewed and says he'd like to sign but doesn't know anything about the manager's position. 25th June - Coleraine tweet the friendly with St Mirren is still going ahead as scheduled and St Mirren tweet the game has been cancelled without contacting Coleraine.. 26th June - St Mirren put out a 33 word, 2 sentence statement saying Oran Kearney has left the club by mutual consent. 2 signings are confirmed... not Popescu, Muzek, Dreyer or McAllister... Gary MacKenzie has signed an extension and Dean Lyness has rejoined the club again. Oran Kearney tweets his response to the news he has left St Mirren. 28th June - Jim Goodwin announced as new St Mirren manager. 29th June - Tony Fitzpatrick says St Mirren (and Jim Goodwin) should be aiming to finish in the top 6. 1st July - Goodwin and 1st team squad + trialists head to Spain for pre-season training. 2nd July - St Mirren announce deal for Popescu collapsed after Mihai's representatives changed the goalposts at the last minute and demanded too much money. No mention of whether we had sorted out Dinamo Bucharest with the £350k fee they were asking for. Also no news on progress in signing Dreyer, Muzek, McAllister. 3rd July - Oran Kearney announced as the new Coleraine manager with an interview here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48858278 4th July - Tony Andreu becomes Jim Goodwin's first signing. 9th July - Jim Goodwin's unveiling to the press is overshadowed by Gordon Scott giving an interview the same day claiming Oran Kearney going back to Coleraine was the worst kept secret in Scottish football, and St Mirren had been expecting it and had plans in place to appoint a successor and Oran wanted to commute from NI literally every day and hadn't been involved in planning pre-season etc. 10th July - Coleraine FC put out an official statement expressing surprise and disappointment at Gordon Scott's interview, swiftly followed by Oran Kearney saying he would keep his side of the legal agreement he made with St Mirren but noted Gordon Scott had not kept his side of the legal agreement and claiming Scott lied in his interview the previous day.
  8. Just like Gowser at his peak. Ignoring Gowser's off-field issues, we really struggled to replace his ball retention the season we went down. It's invaluable for a team at the wrong end of the table to have a guy who doesn't panic in possession and who can find a bit of space and bring others into play. I'd love to see Dreyer playing that role (for us) next season too. I will also say this: the emergence of Dreyer and Flynn as actual proper football players under Kearney speaks volumes for his ability to bring players on and improve their confidence. Any fan who says they had high hopes for Flynn four months ago is flat-out lying. Same for Dreyer after a few appearances. Oran Kearney is the man and must be backed to the hilt as manager of SMFC next season.
  9. Very strange to see those regarding this as a bad result. Normally if you are in a head to head against a team you are happy with a draw away and a win at home. We've got the draw, shown we are a stronger team now, and now Hamilton need to come to Paisley after the split. We are still very much in with a chance of 10th spot. Performance wise, it was frustrating once again. Let me say I fully support Oran & Gus, anyone that claims not to see the complete turnaround in our team since the first trip to Hamilton is just being willfully ignorant (aka an attention seeking twat.) We are considerably stronger in defence, and tactically much more aware. The frustration comes in the final third of the park. There doesn't seem to be any clear strategy to the play, there isn't a great deal of movement off the ball, there isn't any plan as to how to get in between the lines of the opposition when coming forwards. It looks like we have spent most of our time at training working on our defensive shape, and the attacking plan is "get it up there quickly and run at them". On top of this there was a real lack of desire from the strikers to get in to the six yard box and get on the end of things. Dreyer chipped a great ball over the keeper in the final minutes that should have been a tap in for an onrushing Cody Cooke.....but we had nobody there. And then the lack of quality and composure when we do get the chances is hurting us. Jackson v Killie, Duck v Celtic, Lyons v Hamilton all through on the keeper and none of them even managed a shot on target. Plenty of work for the training ground. Maybe time to give Allan Russell a call and see if he fancies helping his old team out for a couple of weeks? Well, it not Allan then someone like that to give a bit of freshness to the training and build the confidence of these strikers. MotM performance from Paul McGinn yesterday, thought he was very strong in defence and going forwards. Hladky saved us again at the end, we would probably be down already if not for the big man. Popescu and Flynn tremendous in the middle of the park. Would love to see more of Popescu's Lothar Matthaus impression, other teams really struggle to stop him when he starts charging forwards. Simeon Jackson put in a great shift, some great link up play and a great ball through to Lyons which should have put us ahead in the first half. Has been pointed out enough above but Erhanon getting hung out to dry at left wing back needs to stop. A real weak link both in defence and going forwards. Any attack down that wing broke down as Ethan didn't seem to know how far forwards he could go. Lyons & Mullen offered very little and we can't really afford such little creativity from key attacking positions. Dreyer was fairly quiet I thought, but shows a lot more composure than the other attackers when on the ball. The penalty looked like a dive to me though, disappointing if so. Getting that 10th spot will come down to working out an attacking system that works. Possibly Jackson - Dreyer - McAllister is worth a go from now on. Jackson can link up well with the other two, both of whom look capable of having a shot from distance.
  10. I hope so... But personally, comparing Dreyer to Mallan seems like comparing a 1977 S plate Sunbeam to a Porsche! Last time I looked, Dreyer was signed by a premiership team, and Mallan by a championship team that was relegated and he failed to prosper there. I'm not for one minute suggesting that Dreyer is currently better than Mallan, but Brighton seem to know who has the potential to be the Porsche in comparison to a Sunbeam. Only time will tell I suppose. You've decided he is pish, which is your perogative. However, to suggest his header that set up Lyon's goal was ordinary, underestimates its quality IMO.
  11. I was at the same game and hold the opposite view of Dreyer and Nazon. I thought the Duck was goosed after 25 minutes and barely made a meaningful challenge all game - he usually collided with a Dundee full back a second or two after the ball had been punted up the park and makes Kris Boyd look athletic and sharp. I think Dreyer is probably a very tidy midfielder in a Kenny McLean mould - he's maybe not an out and out winger in the Lewis Morgan mould, and he might not throw himself around like Jim Goodwin used to but Dreyer usually controls the ball and finds a team mate when he gets possession. Paul McGinn several times today did very well to skin an opponent and then sliced easy passes right out the pitch. Flynn for me deserved his man of the match, MacKenzie did well on his return, and Mullen did OK.
  12. Gary Mac was a collosus at the back! He threw himself in front of Everything and inspired Popescu and Baird to do the same. Gary was driving the defence forward in the latter stages, and was the onfield leader we have badly missed! Paul McGinn was another great performer. Gave all for the cause. Dreyer though? Waste of a jersey. Against Accies I'd make one change from today's side... Stephen McGinn in for Dreyer if fit. If not, Ethon in for Dreyer. Against Celtic, I'd play the reserves to avoid injury or burnout!
  13. Andy Robertson never played for us. Also Andres Dreyer ex St.Mirren was playing for the Danes.
  14. They have had since Oran was appointed to source and sign a tough tackling midfielder who can be a leader on the park and they come up with Tansy!!!! A complete waste of a jersey. Would much rather have the inexperience of Erhahon who will give 100% than a guy who runs about the park pointing at and blaming others for his lack of anything.!! At one point he draws Dreyer to take a short corner with him. After what seems like an age he taps it to dreyer who gives him it back and he's offside!! FFS!!! Oh and Dreyer might be a luxury in a good team (and it;s a big might) but for an SPL relegation dogfight? No chance! He has the heart of a smartie!!!
  15. Just shows that you can polish a turd! The highlight of the pirates Saints career was probably clattering Kieran Tierney. Dreyer looks like he could be a gem but we will wait and see, A lot of it coming in off the left like Kyle McAllister, Midfield is going to be interesting with Tansey, McGinn, MCAllister, Lyons and Dreyer. If all play we will only have 1 up or if we sign another striker and go 2 up someone in midfield 5 above would miss out although could be Dreyer utilised as a second striker/10
  16. Did he miss many games injured? I'm probably wrong, but I thought he pretty much started every game after Dreyer was injured. Dreyer fitted the 5-3-2 better and seemed to be keeping him out the team.
  17. Again, won't listen to reason as it doesn't fit your narrative. Dreyer provided a goal and 5 assists in his 10 matches. That isn't opinion, it's a fact. No-one disputes McAllister had a good run in but Dreyer brought a lot of attacking options to the team despite a relatively slow start. You won't accept this though as you clearly don't do getting proven wrong.
  18. For Kearney it was always a choice between Dreyer and McAllister. If he hadn’t got injured it would’ve been dreyer playong every game until the end and we would’ve been relegated.
  19. Where’s all this love for dreyer coming from?? He was largely ineffectual, too lightweight and no end product. It was only once he got injured that we started playing McAllister who in the end almost kept us up single handedly. We need McAllister back not Dreyer!
  20. Well add that to the start of the list, and then interviews with Oran, Tony Fitzpatrick, GLS since then all saying Oran was happy and the club were preparing for next season with Oran at the helm, and throw in some interviews with players talking about the great job Oran had done at the club and how they were looking forward to the season ahead - some of the loanees wanted to return again this season and it seemed the feeling was mutual on Oran's part. I'm not sure how much weight should be placed on the contradictory statements from 13th June by Oran and GLS about signing priorities. GLS said it would be nice to have Popescu back but Dinamo were looking for a hefty transfer fee and if they stuck to that the deal wouldn't happen. GLS then says enquiries have been made about bringing Kyle McAllister back. Oran talks as if Popescu is his top target, followed by Dreyer (not entioned by GLS), Muzek (not mentioned by GLS), and Oran doesn't mention McAllister as being on his priority list of targets. We can only note that out of the loanees we had last season who Oran said he'd like to sign again for the season ahead we missed out on Hodson, Popescu, Muzek, and there are no rumours that we are trying to get Dreyer back but are pursuing McAllister.
  21. So it's irrelevant that 5 days before the relationship between the chairman and manager broke down that the chairman has said on record Oran wanted to commute occasionally between NI and Paisley, and we wouldn't be signing Popescu but hoped to sign McAllister, and the same day the manager says he is hoping to sign Popescu, Dreyer, Muzek, and MacKenzie? Within a few weeks of the interviews on 13th November Oran leaves by mutual consent with a non-disclosure agreement, Popescu was rumoured to have signed and then the club put out a statement saying his signing fell through as he wanted too much cash, we missed out on Muzek, no word on Dreyer and we're still hoping we might get McAllister on a loan deal this season. I suppose the good news is that since it was only a last minute hitch over Mihai's personal terms that prevented Popescu signing we must have sorted out an agreement with Dinamo for his transfer fee and we can reinvest the money saved in bringing in other decent players to replace most of the guys who helped keep us up last season who will no longer be in the black and white stripes this season! (Or maybe we'll reinvest the money saved on Popescu's transfer fee into paying up Josh Heaton's contract and pay him not to play for us?) Your opinion on whether you were happy with how often Oran wanted to commute is pretty irrelevant unless you happen to be a member of St Mirren's board of directors.
  22. "I speak to Oran every day, I spend a lot of time with him and I know he is happy here" (Tony Fitzpatrick, 14th May 2019 - as TF, GLS begin planning to appoint a successor to Oran according to GLS on 9th July 2019?) "Oran has done a great job and would be mad to leave," Fitzpatrick said. "I know there is speculation [that Kearney will return to Coleraine] which is only natural but I don't want him to leave and I don't think we will lose him." And then we have Oran Kearney on 13th June speaking to the media and saying the club are hoping to sign Popescu, Dreyer, MacKenzie and Muzek again for the season ahead (strange given he was planning ahead for returning to part-time football in Northern Ireland at the time): Oran Kearney is hoping he can still bring Mihai Popescu back to St Mirren. The defender joined on loan from Dinamo Bucharest in January and impressed in his 17 appearances to help secure their status as a Premiership club Bucharest want a fee of £350k for the defender but Kearney reckons they can tempt both the 26-year-old and Brighton winger Anders Dreyer back for next season. "It would be brilliant to be able to get those guys back," he told the BuddieVision online channel. "It's in the hands probably of their agents at this point and you're trying to strike those deals. "With Mihai, it's well publicised that they're looking for a fee. It's quite complicated at this time but we would be doing everything we possibly can to get him back." The pair were among nine players the Buddies had on loan in the second half of the season and Kearney admits he is looking for more stability in his squad. "With every passing window I think we want to have less and less loan players and you don't want to be going through the periods of transition that we've gone through at Christmas and even last summer before I was here," he said. "I think it's important to try and stabilise the club and make sure we have a real cohort of players who are on possibly longer than one-year contracts to give the club that bit of stability." Kearney, who is also looking to re-sign defenders Gary Mackenzie and Mateo Muzek on new deals, added: "At the minute we have about 12 or 13 players, ideally we want to get that to around 20 or 21, to make us as competitive as possible next season."
  23. Dreyer won't be playing in front of big crowds once Brighton release him. Never understand why clubs like Brighton in the Premiership even entertain a player of Dreyer's standard. Looks a country mile short of Premiership level. Likely to be back in Scandinavia in a few years !
  24. Don't think Anders Dreyer will be welcomed back https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/06/11/anders-dreyer-impressed-with-rangers-fans/
  25. Don't think it's a clamour to resign everyone. But it's folly to suggest that the players we signed, by and large never improved us, so at least some should return. McAllister, Popescu and Dreyer would add to the squad quality. It's highly unlikely all 3, or even 2 of these will return (Popescu with his fee and Brighton may try Dreyer at another English club around Championship or League One level) but lets throw it out there and see who comes back as the core of the squad do have that understanding and rapport if these guys return.. Hodson brought versatility and cover for a number of positions as well. It was no surprise we tried to get him back. Jordan Holmes as a backup will likely not command a massive wage - he also loves it here and has a very good rapport with Hladky (from his own mouth), was well thought of by those within the club (as per Jamie Langfield's tweets) and is a current youth internationalist - pretty much ticks all the boxes for a young backup keeper for me.
