Needing some help from anyone in the know.

Switched from BT to Sky today and the broadband connection seems to be fine (wireless router).

Got the home PC sorted out okay - no problems there. Happy days I thought.

Problem is this....

I also have a work's laptop. It took me a while to work out, but I eventually got logged on to the company network (we use Odyssey and iPass Connect). This also got me onto the regular internut no problem.

However, when I disconnect from the network and try to access the web normally, the laptop is picking up the connection but can't seem to find an address.

Basically it means that I can only access the internut if I log onto my company's network first. This is no use as it is firewall central.

Anybuddy got a clue what I need to do?

Sounds like it could be a proxy server setting pointing to something on your companies network.

Depending on your browser you should check the settings.

IE:

Open IE, go to Tools, Options, Connections (tab up the top, 5 along if I remember) and choose the button at the bottom that says "LAN Settings" and check the box for "Automatically detect settings"

FIREFOX:

Wee bit different but the same idea. Choose Tools, Options, Advanced, choose the Network tab and choose the Settings button under the Connection section. In here choose "direct connection to the internet"

Not saying this is a definite fix but its something you should check.

PM me if you have any probs.

I had similar issues recently. When you change devices you need to reboot the modem. When it is rebooted it will answer the devices query for the new IP Address.

If that isn't the issue then it might be down to a conflict in the IP Addresses used for your VPN and your home network. However, if you are connecting the devices direstly to the modem and not through a router it would not be an issue.

You can renew your IP address from your wireless router at any time.

Click Start, Run, type cmd to open a DOS window

Type ipconfig /release to drop your current IP address on your wireless LAN

Type ipconfig /renew to get a new lease on your wireless LAN

This appears an unlikely fix however, as your work laptop must be able to see the internet if you are connecting to your company network (I assume Odyssey and iPass Connect are your VPN client software ?)

I'd reckon Svensen could be right - perhaps a manually entered proxy server or group policy applied proxy setting on your company laptop, although if it worked on your previous ISP then it will be an issue with your local wireless network.

That doesn't really help, does it !?
