Ian Harte Agrees to sign but changes mind!!!

Recommended Posts

I think Mr Scanlon's comments can be disregarded, as I believe he was banned from Leeds games for most of the time Harte was playing for them

I'll say again, if he can stay fit and get a run of games, this is a fantastic signing - when was the last time we signed a player with 64 caps for a decent international team? While I note the comment about him being awful playing for Blackpool against Wolves, that was his first game in ages - he's had a month of first team football in the Championship since then.

Think this is a great signing for us!

His experience will counter any lack of pace he has, because to be fair Potter is as slow as week in the jail and he still gets by ok so Harte should have no problems!

Also it's another experienced voice to guide Cuthbert and even McGinn through games

Excellent news. We needed a lest back and Gus delivered, and so yeah well done Gus. I know it is only to the end of the season and some may perceive it as risky, but it looks like he is on his road back to fitness and well yeah this is the spl, that lack of pace which keeps getting mentioned, well I doubt it is going to hinder him too much.

Good set piece taker - so yeah I am optimistic with this

A good gamble by all accounts.

Totally agree , we have watched leeds utd closely over the years & know every one of those players better than him by a long long way , I have watched around 150 Leeds utd games at elland road so think as I watched Harte over 7 seasons I have a bit of an idea what Im on about ..........though have to say watching Saints is better :) which is why we spend so much time in Paisley :)

Excellent bit of business for both parties.

It puts him in the shop window and also raises our profile in the transfer market for future deals at the end of the season and beyond.

His experience on the park will be invaluable and will help both McGinn and Robb out in games. We may even be an attacking threat at set pieces rather than a sand wedge to the back post or a sclaff into the first defender!!

I was shocked to see this, sitting in my geography lab, decided to check the BBC website onlt to see "St. Mirren Net Ian Harte"

I really think turns out to be a good signing, as long as we keep him fit. We finally have someone who is actually capable of taking a set-piece we may actually score from a free-kick (when was the last time we scored directly from a free kick, Ian Anderson v. Airdrie perhaps :P ) and we now might actually be a threat from corners.

Some recent quotes from match reports with his games for Blackpool,

Ian Harte's cross causing the hosts defence all kinds of problems

this time Ian Harte saw his near post cross turned behind for yet another corner

Ian Harte's corner caused Coventry all kinds of problems once again

Ian Harte, a specialist free-kick taker in his times with Leeds United, nearly gave the Seasiders a two-goal advantage from a dead ball. The left-back came ever so close as his bending effort just flew past the right-hand post

I think it might just work in our favour :)

Yeah? :P

ETA: Aye, what a difference a couple of days makes...

It's good to have something to get a bit excited about. Good on the club for netting a player with Harte's pedigree. We can't really lose on this one IMO. At the very least, we've added someone to the squad who has experience and will attract some additional interest.

All good.
