billyg
Legia can still appeal. Don't think an appeal has any chance , it's the standard punishment for the offence !
billyg
Just goes to show how corrupt EUFA and their parent body FIFA are, absolute joke, but not f*ckin funny! It's in the rules , any team playing an un-registered player will forfeit match 3-0. This was being discussed in the media before the decision was ratified ! Luther G. Presley
It is a very embarrassing way to qualify to be honest, you would think they would do the dignified thing and give the place to a club that lost out on away goals, or the polish club that were runners up, it makes as much sense as giving it to a team that got pumped 6-1! Phil McCracken
Brings into sharp focus the extent of the cheating that the deceased rangers club got away with every single rangers result going to 2000 at least should have been declared a 3-0 defeat

alanmurray24
Legia appealing on the grounds of same offence where player played match for longer was only fined. Saying so on Sky sports it happened in 2010

This was being discussed in the media before the decision was ratified ! There is a precedent Billy, there was a Champions league game in the recent past where the ruling was based on the fact that the offending player was brought on as a sub with minutes to go and an unassailable lead to his team, and they were fined about 15,000 but allowed to progress. I understand that the rules may have been changed since then, but it remains a travesty!

I understand that the rules may have been changed since then, but it remains a travesty! This is the one you're talking about However, in 2010, Uefa fined Debrecen £15,000 but rejected a protest from opponents Litex Lovech, who wanted the Hungarian side kicked out of the tournament for fielding an ineligible player. Debrecen argued that they fielded Peter Mate in good faith as a substitute in Bulgaria when they were leading 4-1 on aggregate. Uefa ruled that Debrecen had "no interest in fielding this player for the three last minutes of additional time, when the score was so clearly in its favour". Phil McCracken
Warsaw haven't been punished forfielding an ineligible player. They have been punished for fielding a player who is suspended. The UEFA rule for fielding a suspended player is a 3-0 defeat. That is their rulebook. They don't have any leeway. Okay, the reason the player was suspended is because they didn't register him for the previous round. But not registering him for the previous round isn't the crime here. Froggie
Looks like the kind of bungle that happened to us a few years ago in the Cup, although thankfully we were only fined for our indiscretion.Seems to guarantee Celtic even more money that a run in either the CL or even the Europa League will provide. Money goes to money.
FTOF
Stolen from P&B, courtesy of our own Bobby F. Love the Mash: http://www.thedailym...r-2014080889421 "CELTIC has invented a fictional hero to take credit for the three goals it never scored. The club was awarded a completely made-up 3-0 Champions League qualifying victory over Legia Warsaw after the Polish team accidentally fielded an invincible football robot for two minutes of injury time. Now the Glasgow club has honoured the achievement by awarding the goals to the fictional attacking midfielder, Declan Sanchez. A club spokesman said: “Declan is a working class boy from Galway whose grandfather was an Argentinian human rights activist and a close friend of Che Guevara. “Declan joined Celtic at the age of seven after being spotted by Kenny Dalglish, adopted by Charlie Nicholas and trained by Henrik Larsson. When he is not creating and scoring magnificent goals he writes poetry about imperialist oppression. “And he has the voice of an angel.”"
