Speculation Thread

I did hope that recruitment this close season would be a lot easier because of covid but it looks like we are going to have to be as patient as we are every year.

Yes, better players are now available and in theory we could get them but every other club is thinking the same thing.

I can see smaller squads with better players being the compromise.

PDE reporting we won't be signing Mitch Rose (but may still sign Shaughnessy).

St Mirren look set to make their third signing of the summer after fending off interest from Kilmarnock for former Aberdeen defender Joe Shaugnessy.

The 27-year-old former St Johnstone captain is close to linking up with fellow Irishman Jim Goodwin after being released by English League Two side Southend Utd this afternoon.

He would join ex-Motherwell full back Richard Tait and former Newcastle and Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick in switching to Paisley ahead of next season.

Shaughnessy made over 50 appearances for the Dons, enjoying loan spells at Falkirk and Forfar Athletic as he continued his development.

He then became a stalwart for St Johnstone, turning out nearly 150 times for the Perth side and eventually taking over the captain's armband from Steven Anderson.

Last season he was part of the Southend United squad that was relegated from League One.

The Buddies are also understood to have missed out on Notts County midfielder Mitch Rose.

The midfielder considered an offer but has decided to turn that down for family reasons.

Still searching for that elusive sitting midfielder by the look of it. The Jim Goodwin role.

I notice that Sean McLoughlin hasn’t featured in any Hull squads since the restart. If he’s not injured, any chance of getting him back?

I noticed that too and was wondering the same thing. Would love to have him back.

If we’ve noticed then I’m sure the club will have. I trust Jim and Gus are on the case.
