Matt Butcher set to become a free agent on the 30th of June, us, Motherwell and a number of English clubs are interested.

Butcher would be an excellent signing but would put any remaining Gogic chat to bed. Think Portsmouth who are his hometown side are linked so you'd imagine they'd be favourites.

From the SUN .....

St Mirren are poised to land Aussie wing-back Ryan Strain from Israeli champions Maccabi Haifa.

SunSport understands the highly active Saints are awaiting clearance confirmation for a potential free transfer switch for the Coventry-born ace who took Australian citizenship and previously starred for Adelaide United.

But they look set to beat off stiff competition from a number of English teams and at least one top flight club here.

Ex-Aston Villa youth Strain made 14 appearances for title-winners Maccabi Haifa last season.

Now, though, it’s believed he’s keen to hook up with Stephen Robinson’s Saints and become their SIXTH summer capture for the 2022-23 campaign.

And the Buddies are very hopeful of sealing a deal they would regard as a coup.

Strain was called up by Australia a year ago for World Cup qualifiers against China and Vietnam but didn’t feature after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

However, he believes moving to Scotland and a strong start in the Premiership can give him a late chance of yet making Graham Arnold’s squad for the finals in Qatar in November.

The 25-year-old joined Maccabi Haifa a year ago and featured for them in the top flight, domestic cup and Europa Conference League qualifiers.

The Israeli giants are due to face Olympiacos next month in the Champions League second round qualifiers.

Strain, though, is keen for a UK return and Robinson – working closely with new chief operating officer Keith Lasley and recruitment chief Martin Foyle for a dramatic squad revamp – would be thrilled to land him.

The ambitious Northern Irishman, determined to make the Paisley outfit strong top six contenders, should learn if the player’s coming within the next few days.

St Mirren have already signed attackers Toyosi Olusanya from Middlesbrough and Jonah Ayunga from Morecambe, midfielders Mark O’Hara and Keanu Baccus from Motherwell and Western Sydney Wanderers plus keeper Trevor Carson from Dundee United.

Robinson – who worked wonders in charge at Motherwell, including two cup finals and a place in Europe - replaced Aberdeen-bound Jim Goodwin in February but then saw the side suffer a downturn in form and drop into a fight for safety which they only secured late on.

However, he’s determined to make sure there’s no repeat in the new season and instead wants Saints pushing hard for higher places and decent cup runs.

Robinson – who will take his squad to Northern Ireland for pre-season training and friendlies - is also still working on other possible signings.

All this makes for really good reading and once again I eat another slice of humble pie of jumping on the SR not good enough train.

It certainly does seem that he isn't going to be messed around with players taking time whether they have other contract offers or waiting possibly for other ones coming in. It would appear you either want to play for him or you are out. I actually like that attitude.

Also like the fact he is getting them in ASAP so the 'new' team gels for the start of the season.

The buds are in a good place on and off the pitch it seems.

Training ground starting to look really good with all the work getting done too.

Its all kibbles fault.

Well done Saints for bringing in a few new faces , looks like interesting times ahead . I'm thinking we,ll be saying good bye to a few players by the end of the month , reckon a couple will be off to Aberdeen . Very pleased about how things are progressing , just have a feeling a few will be moving on to make way for the new signings.

Yeah. I think we still need about 4 players currently but have a feeling SR is going to move a few on to make room for more.

Who’s going to Aberdeen? Dunne? I can’t see many more going? Goodwin was a bluffer and I’m not sure every player believes his nonsense.

Aberdeen are loaded.  Think they will sign at least 12 players . Can see them being interested in Dunn ( well documented) and Brophy  , a very good player  , who would be  so much better in a very attack minded team . And think that they might make a bid for Henderson in the hope that they can can convert him into a wing back to take over from Ramsay .

Can also see them trying to sign Hladky , McGrath and Ronan.
