Murray7
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22747882 Looks like our target Steven Smith will be joining the forces of darkness next season Not really a 'target', apparently he was on trial and was pretty gash. insaintee
Rick - it's not new. There's a wee lad I recommended to St Mirren through the official website 6 years ago who today scored a double as part of the Motherwell side that sunk St Mirren under 15's 6-3 at Ralston. Another lad that I recommended to St Mirren got a trial with the club just over two years ago. Apparently he wasn't better than anything the club had at the time - which is fine - but this week I'm told he's signing professional terms with Dunfermline at the age of 15 and Manchester City are extremely keen on signing him. There was another Wishaw Wycombe lad that I ranted and raved about on the official website several years ago whilst the likes of Captain Sensible scoffed. Lewis Kidd went on to captain Scotland at Under 16's level and has been on the Celtic bench a number of times last season. I also tipped his little brother for success and he's getting rave reports in the Under 15 squad as well. I can go back further and point out that I sent e-mails to the club which were ignored recommended a very young Mark Reynolds for scouting whilst he was playing for his school team - although I've since been told he was never going anywhere other than Motherwell and there have been a number of others - one of which St Mirren DID actually sign I did also contemplate contacting St Mirren about Stephen O'Donnell when I knew he was being released from Celtic. He's another ex Wishaw Wycombe player and I knew his Dad really well with him being Chairman of our club back then. I rated him pretty highly, but with St Mirren having already had a look at four of our players and deciding not to take it further I left it. Since then he's done very well indeed at Partick Thistle. 'Course it's not like I'm some kind of super scout. I'm just someone - amongst thousands of others - who watches football at different levels of the game on a regular basis and who knows where some of the good kids are. A sensible club would tap into those kinds of networks but some clubs.......I'll let you fill in the blanks. Did it occur to you that St Mirren may well have followed up on your suggestions only to be knocked back by the players in question?
Stuart Dickson
Did it occur to you that St Mirren may well have followed up on your suggestions only to be knocked back by the players in question? Yep - but they didn't. The closest to that situation we ever got was David Longwell inviting four lads along to Ralston for trials - as I said in my post. One lad had one session before being told he wasn't good enough, two lasted maybe three months and the fourth stayed till the summer break without either being signed or being told whether he was to return for the following session. The lad at Dunfermline was one of the two that were turned away after three months. He would have signed for St Mirren had they been interested because the trip to Ralston was much more convenient for his family than the trip to Kinross. The Kidds were never approached, neither was Mark Reynolds.
Guest somner9
You know, after two lines ,all i read is Blah ,Blah, Blah ! "Two Lines"? I'd have thought one would require at least four lines of nose candy to counter-act the Dicko effect!

Soctty
I personally recommended a young Portuguese I saw playing football on the beach while on holiday in the Algarve in '95. Needless to say the club never took any notice of me, and that youngster became the most expensive footballer in history. When will the club start listening to random anoraks before they plan their transfer policy?

Having just read your exploits on another thread about ' incestuous three ways, and your pathological hatred of cheesy, I hope to god you have no part in the selection process of pro-youth players for any team. Hambud
There is a whole load of fishing going on over on Twitterland. A lot of people in the "know" but not willing to share. I posted the Higdon rumour after one of them letting the name slip, plus a random Well fan who fell for the Well Fans Twitter joke. I'll be delighted if I'm wrong. One is a transfer target for Man City, one was Scotland Under 16 captain, one was Motherwell captain, one had a great season at Partick, and two more are hotly tipped at Motherwell and Celtic. JM1
It's a bit worrying that the profile says he had a spell where he was further down the pecking order than Yves Ma-Kalambay
