Seem to remember that if you right click the file in Explorer, and get 'properties', that should tell you.

Apart from that, best bet is to download the codecs. Vista should support h.264 out of the box (it will if you install iTunes and Quicktime for Windows, anyway).

DivX and Xvid - download and install from here then try the file again.

Doing this from memory, as I have a Mac now. If you had one, I'd just tell you to download Perian...;)
