faraway saint
Calside This weeks 'then' Photo from the Heritage Library shows the Calside-Causeyside-Neilston Road gushet as it was back 59 years ago in 1963. The old tenements of 6-10 Calside and those of Stirling Street are newly demolished to make way for the Maisonettes which replaced them, with the loss of Stirling Street from the Map altogether. In the foreground is the 'Hygenic Fountain' Gifted by George Hamilton of Blackland Mill Circa 1900 with the underground Toilets in the shadow of the building to the left. and ahead, is the Craig Dhu Pub housed in the tenement built for Publican Alexander Adam back in 1906 by local Architect John Albert Rennison. The Police Call-box on the Kerbside has long since gone, with the more recent loss of the Public Telephone Box
faraway saint
^^^^^ Walked past this many times when I stayed in Neilston Road. Popped into the Craig Dhu often on the way to the town, liked that pub although it was a slightly "older" crowd than me at that time. 😆
StanleySaint
Yes, used to po in to the Craig Dhu on the way into town walking from Glenburn, might have been a slightly younger crowd in the mid 80s.
