Trades Union Club and it sounds as if it was the same place.

Not sure if  was a club as such. Saying that because i'm sure I would signed up to join. Some form of Union use

rings a bell.

The snooker club was a nice warm place for the worthies to pass their time.

There was money involved with a game played with 4 skittles surrounding the blue spot and a skittle in the middle

which had to be knocked down without knocking over  the outside skittles.

You had to be a "player" to get the downstairs room.

I'm no sure what it became?

In fact I don't even recall what the TUC was?

The Manaca was just up the wee brae that emerged onto the high street almost across from Storie Street.

I think McKays fabrics had a shop on the right hand side as you looked from the High Street.

The Manaca was further up, to the right then left as I remember.

I've been corrected, it was Remnant Kings, silly me, my mother worked in there for a while as well. 😂

I remember in the 60s/early 70s , there was an Amateur football team Orr Square Amateurs , the guys were members of that club I think !

After many years of reading bits of the Forum, I have finally logged on after joining a while ago. Absolutely love this Thread by Sonny and I am working my way through it more thoroughly. Sonny has done a magnificent job of it, as has EAB latterly. Enjoying once again. The Forum generally is brilliant. I love all the Matchday Threads every week, also the Coronavirus Thread grabs my attention and I like it.  Seen some of the Saints photos topics and that is ace.

Loads of great Buddies on here, I especially like Sonny and EAB, obviously, Oaksoft, The famous Captain Sensible, Santaponasaint , Pod and many more. Elvis is entertaining. He tells the truth. :)

Proud To Be A Buddie.

Now that really made me laugh.   Welcome, unless your elvis of course.

Just came back to me, what was the snooker hall between Stoney Brae and the wee brae that brought you out onto the High Street?

I used to nip in and watch on my way home from the baths, got my fist game on a real table in there.

First fisting

I think I recall it being sold for development for flats with retail outlets on the ground floor but I might be mistaken.

Don’t think retail was ever part of the plan.If I remember correctly downstairs was earmarked for community use in a PACE sort of way.

Upstairs was to be flats or offices, they applied for both in their planning application as they hadn’t decided what would be most profitable............but the whole thing has ground to a halt in last couple of years.

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure, hope it gets finished I always thought it was worth saving when driving past it.

I thought this was the original plan as well, seen the guys behind it on a daytime programme, think it was Homes Under the Hammer, and I thought retail was planned.

There was some discussion on here about this when it was on the TV programme I mentioned, not sure how to search it, that might clear this up?

From Paisley via Inverness.....They said they had speculated £250,000 to get the project going, hoping to let out the ground floor commercially.

Canny remember any more, I was hoovering and tidying up just passing in the living room, my wife was watching it......

Found this in the Homes Under the Hammer thread....................

Think they said on the programme that it was to be offices on ground floor then the income from that would be used to turn other floors into flats. They were expecting to get several grants, as they were led to believe that it was almost just a formality of applying for them, but were apparently rejected for them all.
