Scott-Leeds
Another great money maker was the scramble The church up at Ivenhoe Road was visible from Findhorn Avenue, when we spotted a Saturday wedding, we’d all shoot across, hovering then dive in as the car window opened Happy days indeed

Bert's Ices, I had forgotten all about that bugger. When I was a young 'un I stayed in Foxbar from 1963 to 1968. By the time you raced down from the 10th floor of Oliphant Court the van had gone. Pure cruelty !!!!

Pure cruelty !!!! I remember palombos when we lived on brediland road and chics that used to park just outside gate at Camphill. As for when we lived in Heriot Court, we were on top floor so if you heard ice cream van their was no chance of getting to it 🤣
chalky1
Growing up in the river's area as one ice-cream van left the street another was only moments away, Thinks it Berts (Him and his Son) Palumbo's , Mario's and the the walls vans. Might also been 1 or 2 others

Tony Trento's used to serve the top half of Glenburn. But Ferguslie was where one made the big bucks. Several vans used to do a circuit between Candren Road and Dalkieth Avenue. Ginger bottles in exchange for a couple of fags (smoking type)

Probably from the moment someone (who was good at geography at school) discovered why the streets were named Dee, Don, Forth, Esk, Spey, Ettrick etc.

I worked on the Trentos van in Gallowhill when I was 13 .. at first with a local guy and then with Dominic Girasoli, one of the Sons,Trento was the old mans first name ,he was always in the Cafe in Renfrew, good old guy. Later I worked with my Brother on an Izzis Van up on the Neilston run for a couple of years.😱 Good times and great memories.🍦

That's also my recollection. I mind one time my Dad had got a British Linen Bank £1 note as part of his wages. It was unusual in that it had a lot of blue in its design. He said "take it out to the van and if you get change of a fiver ill give you a pound." Now I knew Geordie wouldn't be daft enough to fall for that and, even if he did, he'd pull me up on it next time he saw me so I suggested we waited till the Walls van came round. Sure enough I got change of a fiver and I got my £1 which back in 1976 was a fortune.

To be fair didn't think it was as early as that. With this what does make me chuckle is remembering carrying on always about having to take his beloved vauxhall viva up the chain road as obviously it was soooo steep a hill it would wreck the engine jeez
